hello!

Finally, i'm on my first day, i'm aiming to get through the day and have an evening meal.
Going ok - not too hungry at the moment, drinking lots of ginger tea and water
Feel a little light headed though - will this pass???
I have brought an apple and a muller light greek yogurt with me, just in case i really cannot make it!!!

Hubby's not very happy about me skipping breakfast - he would much prefer that i had at least, a yogurt before i go out. I don't mind this, but worried about turning on that "hunger switch"

Any advice????
Thanks
Hi! You have to find your own way I think. I had headaches and dizzy spells the first few 500 days, don't have that problem anymore, and I do find them easier - though not easy, like some people here, sorry!

At the moment I'm having brunch at 10.30ish and supper at 6ish, that seems to work for me. Tried going without for a few of the days, and will probably do that again - just depends what you feel like.

Hang on in there, come back on here and shout later if you need to, I find that helps a lot!!
Thanks Swedey, yes it's good to know that I can pop on here for some honest moral support!
Welcome lulabella to 5:2 and to the forum! You are doing fine and I think it was probably wise to skip the breakfast. If you can't last out I would try the yogurt and leave the apple unless you are really desperate, because the apple has a lot of sugar.

The light-headedness (slightly spacey?) is a 'normal' side-effect, it will reduce as you get more used to fasting.

The first couple of weeks are the hardest because your body (and your mind) has to adapt, so try to stick at it but if it gets too difficult it is much better to go a bit over the 500 cal target (which is to be honest fairly arbitrary anyway) than to give up and say "I can't do this".

ouch! Mine didn't last that long. I'm guessing (hoping) the 500 was a typo?
Great advice Dominic!! Thank you!
Hi, it's my first day fasting too!

I'm not finding it too difficult, had breakfast at around 10.30/11am and now I'm going to try and last until dinner. Need to drink lots of water and black tea, I think, to keep me going. I'm sure I'll be experiencing headaches and the like a bit later on, and I get really really grumpy when I'm hungry.

Good luck (:
Welcome Beth! The grumpiness is a bit of a side-effect too in the early days, at least it was for me! I used to storm into the house at 6pm furious and ravenous for my 600 calories. Fortunately for my OH that stage has passed, but you might want to warn your nearest and dearest...
Woo my first day too! i have had an apple so far.. but will do as Dominic says and have some yoghurt instead. wahey for the light headed feeling!
good luck! x
For the first-timers, no panic even if you struggle with the first day as it seems to get better with each fast day. I needed to spread the calories between day and night the first week but now I can get by with just one meal and a long fast with no trouble.

I think Swedey meant 500 calorie days...i.e., fast days...
I'm on second fast day and was in a panic earlier but chilled out thinking about what I can enjoy tomorrow and didn't want my last fast day to have been for nothin! I am currently munching on 25g of Cheerios as its all I had chance to grab this morning just eating them like crisps with no milk and they are surprisingly tasty and only 95 cals... Not long till bedtime !
Hi, it's my first day today and have had half of my 500 for lunch. Going to see how I go but not doing too bad. Drinking lots of water and therefore making lots more trips to the loo!!!!!! Read the 5:2 book last night and it made me realise that I've lost interest in food - am just eating when I should and filling myself up with easy stodge and therefore piling on the pounds. Think a break from food is exactly what I need!!
Good luck for the rest of the day!
I am also spending more time on the loo!
totally with you on the loo issue - must be getting extra exercise going there and back!! LOL!!!
