Re: Are you still fasting??

My continuing weight loss on 6:1 is making me think that I should try 13:1 next time and see what happens. I'm now 3 pounds below my goal weight and don't really want to get any thinner.

My checkup in June showed improved cholesterol, etc. I wonder if that trend would continue if I only fast 1 day every week or so.

Thanks Susan
I suppose I am fasting
I don't eat breakfast, have a light lunch ,late afternoon snack, dinner and then a small piece of chocolate
I have learned that being hungry is ok and will pass,I don't eat for the sake of it and if I am going to eat,I would rather eat something healthy and lower in calories than high calorie unhealthy stuff
I am also more accepting of my weight which is not quite what I would like but is actually fine

Have been maintaining for about 2 months. I am still fasting at least once a week, sometimes twice. I think I will try to get back to twice a week although that has been more difficult since I have been traveling throughout the summer. I am fasting for the long-term health benefits--my high blood pressure has been significantly reduced since beginning this WOE and I don't want to lose that benefit. Also, I find the overall discipline required for 5:2 does bleed over to other aspects of my daily routine and I find that positive. Rather than adding junk food to maintain my weight, I have been having healthy smoothies and that seems to keep my weight stable lately.

It is very encouraging to hear from people who have been maintaining for several months. It's still early days for me, as I only reached my target on the 7th July. I am still fasting because my husband has a few more pounds to lose and he wouldn't/couldn't fast if I wasn't!

I don't mind fasting and if it takes one or two days a week to maintain my weight then that is what I am prepared to do (not so sure about my husband!). I know from many previous attempts at maintenance that this is the part of weight management that I find most difficult, so I am interested to see how this works out. I have a feeling that this WOE will help me with this but it will take a number of months before I am truly confident that this time it will be different!

Please please all you successful maintainers keep in touch & posting how you are continuing to get on. I won't be at my goal weight until the end of next year at the rate I am going & although I have successfully lost weight in the past I have never maintained it!!
All your experiences are so inspiring & useful to the likes of me
This WOL is still so new I feel that we are all ongoing experiments in the 5:2 ing journey & there are many who have lots more weight to lose & haven't got there yet; so please keep in touch.
Thank you & continued good luck with your maintenance :like:

I reached my target 12 weeks ago, and despite a two week holiday in florida, numerous barbecues with friends during the hot weather, ice creams etc, by fasting once a week on a Monday I am still the same weight. So I shall stick with 6:1. My husband also reached his target at the same time, having lost two stone, and he is no longer fasting because now that he has lost so much weight he is doing much more exercise and finds that keeps his weight under control.

Isis, don't worry. I like it too much here, not going anywhere and still fasting for maintanance.

I'm kind of at maintenance too but keep moving my goalposts and its Ramadan! I think I will keep fasting and maybe do a combo of 6:1 and 16:8 once Ramadan is over.

My initial goal was 9 stone, then 8 and a half and now I think I'd like a bmi of 21 which will be 8st 3 and will make it a total loss of 2 stone since I started dieting in Feb ( I started 5:2 in March)

I need a few weeks staying at one weight to be able to say I am truly on maintenance though.

Umleilla, so are you fasting now everyday until the evening? Do people typically lose weight during Ramadan or do they gain/maintain from the evening feasts?

Yes, I was fasting till I got my period this week. It was from sunrise till sunset. I think generally people tend to put on weight because there are big family/friend gatherings to break the fast and the good tends to be fried and quite rich.

The days are so long here in the UK at the moment, that I was finding it very hard to eat a lot at all. I was just feeling very full very quickly. So I lost, but only a pound. I will probably fasting again the day after tomorrow for Ramadan, but intend to do my 5:2 fast tomorrow.

It's all a bit confusing right now, to try and gauge what is actually going to work for maintenance. I'm sure I will have a better idea after Ramadan.

What are you doing for maintenance Einatlb?

Well, 6:1 didn't work for me, than I tried one day of 500 and one of 1000 and it seemed to work but then I started gaining weight again, so for a couple of week I did the complete 5:2 and then started doing 1 day of 500 and one of 700 which worked for a couple of weeks but then I went on vacation which messed up everything although I didn't gain. Now I'm back to the 500/700. On week feed days I eat 1800 cals and on Sat/Sun I eat 2000 cals, also, as you know I excercise a lot. Last week I ran a total of 14 miles and walked at least 8-9 more.
Good lack with the Ramadan fasts. It must be realy hard to fast when the days are longer...and good luck with finding your way to maintain.

Right on, kencc, and in addition I would say a couple of the sensible eating days get breakfast delayed until lunchtime - seems to be working for me, at least with current exercise levels (and weather...)

I love your posts kencc and creaky Pete...and totally agree. I won't hesitate to go back to 5:2 if I overindulge but if you can maintain by eating less and more healthily throughout the week rather than fasting (which does get tiresome if you get moody like I do by the evening), why not? Maybe we shouldn't be posting on this forum any more :shame:

Oh yes you should, don't you lot dare stop posting, you would be missed. We all need encouragement to keep going and newbies need to hear how things can pan out down the line to help them stick at it when things stall :victory:
