weirdly we have no snow in Minnesota! But it is cold again, -12 last night. No snow but cold temps make a great ice skating rink on our pond

It was -15 here today, BEFORE wind chill was added in. With the wind, our radio guy said -40! This was at 8am, so I'm sure it was colder when we were supposed to get up at 6:30, but I forgot to set my alarm >.<
I'm knitting a new sweater and it's almost done. I just have to finish this sleeve I'm really pleased with how well it fits me. It's very sculpted and nips in at the waist.

We got about two feet in this latest storm and it was at least -10F last night. The National Weather Service's nearest station is about 30 minutes east of us and at lower elevation, so it was probably colder here. It's too cold for the salt to melt the roads or our driveway which is so steep I can't get up it in its current icy state, so we will be home until further notice. There is snow in the forecast for 3 of the next 4 days, too.
My daughter is supposed to be flying to Canada (where it is warmer <g>) this evening for an important job interview but they have cancelled this morning's flights at Logan.
In short, we are having a normal New England winter. And I am having my usual "WTF do I live here?" February experience. The answer is, "because of what happens in May" but that's hard to even imagine right now.

I prefer reading this to watching the TV weather report - far more reliable and less dramatic! It has been unseasonably warm here for the past few days - 70 plus. However there is a 'storm' coming apparently. All relative compared to the east and also back home in the UK. However we really do need rain. Nothing in January at all here and not a great start to the year from a drought point of view.
@Peebles Best of luck to your daughter on that job interview!! I agree completely about May, but I also enjoy having winter. I really enjoy having four distinct seasons. I lived in the Seattle area for almost 10 years, and while it's gorgeous, I missed having four distinct seasons.
@RawKaren we're definite not able to be dramatic about this - it's just winter weather. We don't even get dramatic when we have 36" of snow drop in one day. It happens and you move on.
Besides, it's so stinking pretty!! I say that even if my toes haven't warmed up yet from wading through the snow to brush it off of my husband's solar panels. Besides shoveling snow is a great way to earn hot chocolate

Good morning!
Another weekend has arrived! I'm a happy girl as the scale finally dropped a bit! Lost 3.4 this week! That's only an average of about 1/2 lb a week since beginning this WOL, but I've not been suffering and the number on the scale is drifting down!
I'm going to my sister's for the weekend and hoping not to overdo it too much. We like to go out to eat and have a few beers. I'm not going to stress. I only get to see her every couple months, so I'm going to enjoy every minute. We like to get appetizers to share, so the calories are not thru the roof.
It is very cold here this morning and the forecast does not show any warm up in the near future. It's got to break one of these days.....doesn't it??
Have a great weekend!

I'm on my 2nd fast for this week. We finally got snow again so everything is white once more. Have a great day everyone!
Sorry I've been AWOL! Time seems to be getting away from me lately!
I had a fun weekend with my sister, but ate WAY too much. Had a good fast on Monday and another planned for Thursday. I'm also keeping calories low today, so a half-fast I guess you'd say. I'll be happy to just maintain this week after my big drop last week. I'm quite sure I'm up after last weekend, but not going near the scale until Friday's weigh in.
Hope you're all doing well!

don't worry about it. I haven't lost my Christmas weight yet so that means I'm starting back at where I was in September. But I'm ok with this because I know it may take a LONG time but this WOL will win in the end. The first time I lost 60 pounds it took years so I know the first year or so is retraining the brain. This retraining is the hardest part of the process.
Anyone in the U.S. interested in the Academy Awards?? We in the "dreaded Pacific time zone" will have almost uninterrupted TV coverage all day from 2 pm. I have to admit I love it all, even though I've hardly seen any of the nominated movies. Our weather here will be cool and rainy (what a shame) so easy for us oldies to sit at home and watch on TV.
Some years ago my boyfriend (now hubby) and I used to go down early on awards day to the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion (when the show was held there) - wait around all day, see all the stars, have a wonderful day - well, its not like that anymore - I think they camp out for almost a week - BUT, I still have those "stars in my eyes" !!!!!
If we had the Pacific time zone Chapter, I would've posted this there @rawkaren, but I think it might be a lonely Chapter !!!

@lovemyparrot. Last year was my first experience of watching it live rather than just the 5 minute out takes on BBC breakfast in the UK. I really enjoyed the whole occasion. However today is going to be another glorious day here so I plan to be out. But then I still have the whole evening ...... I do hope Eddie Redmayne wins best actor.

I hope so too - don't want Michael Keaton to win !!!!!!!
@lovemyparrot. I'm still not 100% recovered from flu so rather than go out for my usual walk, have decided to put the telly on, take my brain out of gear and hide under the duvet. I thought I had got over it, but not quite so I'm considering viewing an essential part of my recovery. I too will be cross if the academy make the best actor award to Michael Keaton.
Sticking my neck out - here are my votes:
Best Actor - Eddie Redmayne
Best Actress - Julianne Moore or Rosamund Pike (boy was she scary in Gone Girl)
Best Picture - Boyhood
Best Supporting Actor - Ethan Hawke
Best Supporting Actress - Patricia Arquette

I have to agree with all your picks, but I think Julianne Moore will definitely win. I haven't seen Boyhood and I am sure its a fine film, but I've never been a fan of Patricia Arquette so won't get too excited when she goes onstage for her 3rd or 4th award this season!!! Would like Benedict C. and/or the Imitation Game to win something but its doubtful.
Its cold, dreary and damp here - so stay cosy inside, and hope you feel much better from the flu real soon.
Eddie Redmayne - yay !!!!!!!
