Re: Anyone in the US?

Had a friend who I haven't seen in a few months ask, "Are you losing weight?"
Was nice to hear since I feel like my progress is SOOOOOOOOO slow.
I still have a tendency to overdo it on NFDs. And I've noticed more stress-eating creeping in. I've always done a bit of emotional eating, but I am finding it more pervasive now and difficult to control. I am wondering if the fast days give me subconscious "permission" to "eat when I feel sad/stressed/tired" because I am thinking, "I can go ahead and eat this. It's fine. I fasted twice this week."

Hello Everyone!
Just catching up with you all here. I'm not currently fasting, as I was not feeling well on fasting days. I'm giving myself a few weeks of calorie counting and see what happens.

In less than 2 weeks I'll be going on vacation, so I'll just do my best until then. @Ferretgal hope we can get together the week of 9/14!!

I'm still here. I will be missing a fast this week for the first time in a while because we are having all the carpet replaced in our home. It will take 2 days and is as stressful as moving since we have to take everything out of all the rooms. I am so stressed already I'm not actually eating that much. It doesn't help that OH jumped the gun and started moving everything out of the rooms and boxing things this past weekend though they aren't coming with the carpet until Thursday. I can't find anything and the dining room (with a wood floor, thanks goodness) is piled high with junk.

For the fist time in over 20 years I went to the State Fair and did not gain weight. Even when I was at my lowest weight I would always gain 3 pounds or more at the fair. This year I did 5-2 the day before and the day after- it it worked! I wondered if it would work and I guess I shouldn't be supersized but I am.

@Canoegal, that is very good to hear, since we are planning on going to the Washington State Fair on Sept 19, and ALL THAT FOOD! It helps--a little--that I'm a vegetarian (I don't need to worry about meat-based items); but there's still a lot to get in trouble with, notably: The BEST soft ice cream; fresh saltwater taffy; and...SCONES! Fresh with raspberry jam! Not sure if I'll fast the day before and after, as my light days already bracket Saturday to some extent. Plus, I'm sure I'll naturally eat less on Sunday, since I'll still be "full." I'm going with my male friend who recently started 5.2; I think he's still a little shocked he can eat "normally" on other days (though he has cut back on the excessive eating; he used to act like the plate was going to escape!) and still lose weight with 2 fast days a week. Hey, remember how depressing "regular" diets are, when you can't even enjoy a holiday or birthday without feeling guilty or blowing the whole thing???

Not checked in for a while. Still here. Moved house this week so lots to do - cleaning, unpacking boxes and re-building furniture. Keeps my mind off eating. Hope you all have great plans for the holiday weekend!

Just found your topic on the FastDay Forum. I'm in my 3rd week of fasting and today is my 5th fast day. It hasn't been too bad today, but last Thursday, my other fast day was grueling! I couldn't wait for that day to end. Why is it that the 2nd fast day of the week seems to be harder to get through than the first? I haven't lost much weight at all, but I'm hopeful that it will kick in after week three. I don't think I'm doing anything wrong - my calories on my fast days don't add up past 500 and on non fast days, I don't eat like a major pig...but I do have a weakness for french fries. I'm going to try to cut that back to only one serving a week and eat more greens.

Welcome!

Tis' the carbs in those fries that are your downfall. Try substituting bacon strips instead. YES bacon, with satisfying protein and fat - neither of which trigger the hunger dragon. Also salty drinks (one or two cups) of miso or bouillon (stock) cube drinks at weak points throughout the day will go a long way to ease the transition process in the first few weeks.

Also consider tracking your weight loss journey with the progress tracker here. It'll show you what is actually happening with a steadying trend line, not those sometimes dramatic ups and downs (3-4 pounds over a 24 hour period is common) that can be quite frustrating, especially early on.

Hi, I'm sort of here. I've been struggling with my thyroid. I saw the endocrinologist and he wants me off the meds for a few days. We're hoping no replacement hormones will help reduce my levels and make me feel better. I'm also doing a bit of a home renovation, which has been keeping me busy!!

Welcome to the forum, Beckpat32.

For the record, my endocrinologist isn't a huge fan of very low carb diets and he says people just can't stay with them long term. He is currently pushing meditation to reduce cortisol, saying that until you reduce cortisol and stress, no diet will work. He likes people to target around 100 or 150 grams of carbs per day, depending on activity levels.
