Well if what I am reading is correct coconut oil is very beneficial for dental/oral health & general well being. I am fairly sceptical but am happy to give virgin coconut oil a go particularly if it helps improve gum health & whitens teeth
I know it's use has been mentioned elsewhere in the forum but how have those of you who have tried it got on? I am reading books written by Bruce Fife on oil pulling & the health benefits & have just started using it.
It's great! I eat coconut butter by the teaspoonful; I put coconut oil on my hair once a week, my hair is much improved; I use it as a skin cream at night, helps with small eczema patch and has softened my heels and knuckles well.
Haven't tried the pulling yet, let us know how it goes :0)
Azureblue, where do you buy it from??
Coconut oil is available from Waitrose for £6 for a jar, usually found with all the other oils. Also available from Holland & Barrett I think. Coconut butter I ordered off the interweb, expensive at £13!! But delicious.
I usually put a tablespoon full in my 2nd cup of black coffee of the day. Yum! The research on the benefits is quite compelling.
I love it! I don't like anything in my coffee so I just have a tablespoon on its own. I find it can keep me going almost through to my evening meal on some days.

I made my own coconut butter from coconut flakes. There are various recipes on-line but basically you just blend it to death! I got a good sized jar from 2 packets at £1 a pack. I like to put it in a tray and into the fridge. It goes hard and you can break bits off. Yummy!
I'm a coconut oil fan too. Great for cooking, with such a high smoke point. (Although I don't do things like egg in in, I use butter for them for taste.) Great for baking too. From simple chocolate (coconut oil, cocao powder, honey) or "magic ice" icecream topping to slices, cakes, muffins.

Also really good on your skin for moisturising, and clears up fungal infections quickly and effectively (athletes foot etc).
Yeah converted oil-puller here. All I can say is swish swish, works wonders

Fantastic for satiating appetite on fast days for me as come lunch time when I am looking for those scabby dogs to chase and eat I put a teaspoon into my coffee which I make from scratch grinding the beans which sets me up until that evening meal or drink. Otherwise just need to keep fluids up.

Try to remember for my skin but not good for around the eyes for me I found. Great stuff. Someone wrote about the hundreds of uses, but oil pulling and in the coffee great start
Please help a total ignoramus! What is oil-pulling? Sounds painful!
Thanks for the link, izzy. I have read it and it sounds interesting. I can see that I will have to treat myself to some coconut oil - it seems to have so many uses and so many on this forum singing its praises!
When I dig a spoonful out in the mornings I always melt a little in my hands and moisturise my arms with it. I have really dry skin and it just slurps it up. I had a small scar from years ago on my forearm and its almost gone in just a few weeks. I'd been using Bio Oil for months and it hadn't budged.
Coconut oil is a great sustitute for butter when you are cooking dairy free for someone. I use it for all my frying and sauteing...reduces or eliminates the need for salt as well in my opinion.
I've heard about coconut oil and thought it wasn't worth it. Now it seems like it is! I'm going to look into it more!
Another coconut oil fan here. Today, I used it in place of shaving cream for my legs. I saw this pin on Pinterest saying to use baby oil instead of shaving cream because it makes your legs really soft and your razor blades last longer. Well, since I always lather on the coconut oil before my shower or detox baths anyway, I figured it was worth a test. It really does make your legs very soft...can't say for sure about the blade lasting longer yet.

I have been using coconut oil since sometime last fall. I love, love, love the stuff. It really helps my psoriasis, dry/cracked heels, etc. My skin has never been more clear or healthy looking. I use it on my stomach as it seems to help with loose skin, cellulite and stretch marks. I keep one jar in the bathroom and another in the kitchen. I have use it often in scrambled eggs, coffee mug omelettes, in place of vegetable oil and in the fast day candy wafers I make. I don't drink coffee, but have had it in hot water with lemon in the mornings.
Thank you for all your very informative replies. I have just finished oil pulling ( swishing a heaped teaspoon of pure virgin coconut oil around in my mouth & pushing & pulling it between my teeth) but only managed 10 minutes but it leaves a lovely fresh taste in the mouth. It should be done before having any drink or food first thing in the morning & then spat out, otherwise you ingest all the unwanted oral flora that have reproduced overnight in the absence of saliva ( according to my reading saliva ceases to be secreted during sleep). I did try putting oil on a red area of skin under my eye but it felt rather odd & this morning is no better so back to some 1% hydrocortisone cream as recommended by my dermatologist.
By the way Holland & Barratt have a one penny sale & I bought two of their own virgin coconut oil pots for £15. Usual price is £14-99 a pot which is expensive so I will also look in Waitrose. I am currently using some Coconoil bought from Amazon which is delicious but was a better price at £10-89 for a similar size to the Holland & Barratt one.I am going to try cooking & shaving my legs with oil
Oh a mouth ulcer I had vanished overnight perhaps helped by oil pushing? :like:
