I want to look fabulous for the day I will be the big 4 0, in exactly 288 days. After all, 40 is suppose to be the new 20, isn't it ?
Apart from feeling better and the health benefits, I want to get my body back after 6 years of children and breastfeeding, and be able to wear the clothes from before I got pregnant which have been sitting in the loft for the last 6 years!
I am also motivated for my swimming race in July as wearing a wetsuit in front of people is enough to scare anyone into losing weight!

Haaaaa haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa! If it's just the washing machine, be grateful! :like:
Some great reasons, especially Izzy's

I don't want to inherit my Mum's weight related health problems including Type II diabetes.
I'm in my early 40s and don't want to approach the menopause carrying a lot of extra weight which I'll probably add to.
I don't want to be the fat person in my work pass photo.
Now this is terrible I know but here goes. My sister has recently put on a lot of weight and for once I want to be the skinny sister  Horrible reason I know but hey it's honest
Oh and the OH is younger than me so want to try and at least feel a bit sexy for as long as possible.

Am I shallow :?: God yes

I enjoyed hill walking most of my life; when I was overweight it was getting hard to do but now it is becoming easier and I am beginning to enjoy it again

I also like to weigh daily and plot the data on excel charts; seeing the trend line go down and seeing how daily life effects the variation is very interesting. Its something I will continue when in maintainence
I want to be able to look at a photo of myself without feeling the need to delete it immediately, to wear a lovely dress, to live longer and erase my flabby tummy. My OH keeps me going by the compliments he has given me. I long to fit into clothes that are lurking in my wardrobe that I just couldn't bear to throw out, to be able to find clothes in the shop from the front of the rack!!
Wow, this is such an inspiring thread, and thanks to all for being so honest!
I only have one gorgeous daughter and we are very close.
I want to be able to keep healthy and active to be able to help with Grandchildren and I know that losing weight is the most effective way for me to do that.
I have quite a lot of arthritis creeping in and need to get my weight into the healthy range.
Being able to easily buy and wear lovely clothes again will be a very nice side effect!
I just need to achieve my goal !!!This year
(so now I'll have to kill you all)

I didn't read your post, I don't know anything about it, kill them all (the rest) and let's go party!
BTW, my close friends and family know that quite some times I have invented work-related issues and illness in order to stay in and watch a very questionable telly show. It's not our fault when people organise big events on days when we are busy or not looking our best! :-)

Have to share this with you Margalot.... I've a certain pair of cargo cropped trousers (not particularly special) that are a real favourite - they've been in the back of my cupboard now for about 10 years TBH and I've just never had the heart to throw them out dreaming one day, one day I might just fit into them again. Well... you can see where this is going can't you..... just this weekend I've had to face up to the fact that they're now too big !!!! I'm still wearing them however with the belt done up another notch smaller, but they're too baggy - they'll just have to go. Not sure if I'm happy or sad......... it's OK - I'm very happy about it really
Short-term:

a ball next Saturday and a desire to look decent in a dress.

Long-term:

a photo of me holding the cake at my daughter's 2nd birthday (so I had just turned 42) and wondering now how the hell I had gotten such slim hips, and wanting them again!

the desire to be able to wear just about any combination from my wardrobe and know it will look good and I won't feel self-conscious about it being too tight.

photos of Robin Wright (anyone see her in House of Cards? She is a year older than I am and looks AMAZING.)

the knowledge that, if I pull this off, I can maintain a healthy weight, look slim, AND NEVER HAVE TO COUNT CALORIES, CARBS OR BL--DY POINTS AGAIN.
NEVER wanting to go through chemotherapy again.
Enjoying the ability to put anything in my wardrobe on and feel I look good in it.
Looking in the mirror and not seeing rolls of fat, or a double chin.
Feeling healthier and more confident........etc etc.
The list is endless!
Suchard!!! You just reminded me!!! I have a pair of GAP cargo trousers which are a US size 2! Ι've never, ever worn them (of course) they were the present of a friend who somehow thought I was a supermodel, LOL!
Perhaps I shall name them my ideal, made in heaven, oh how I wish target and try to get into them after a few weeks of maintaining my first target weight.
What keeps me going is the fact that I want to stay fitting into my size 36 jeans and xs tops....I can't afford a new wardrobe! But 2 months of maintenance and so far so good. Missing meals is so easy to do and if a couple of pounds creep on one week it is so easy to lose them with 5:2.
To misquote Kate Moss, nothing tastes as good as being slim feels.
