The last accident I had in a car was about 20 years ago. Where I wrecked the car so spectacularly that the only salvageable bits of the car were the tailgate and rear seats.

The only accident I had was February 5th 2000 and I remember the date because I could have died. There was a mechanical problem on my car, I lost control, it ran faster on its own, broke a big wood pole in 2, my car dive into the ditch, made a U turn on its nose and finished in the opposite way I was coming. I was more than lucky to only have a few scratches (the mechanic, who came to pick the car up, told me "you should be dead !", the big injury was emotional, I couldn't talk for weeks because of the shock and we even thought I wouldn't talk any more. It took me months to recover.
All that to say that since I need to feel some sense of security in a car, I can't go in a small car, for example. My car, I know it by heart, can tell if everything is wrong or okay, it took quite some time to come to this point; about 2 years.

Juliathome's mention of Brown Bread Icecream reminded me that I used to make this many years ago , and friends could never guess what the "secret" ingredient was ( ie brown bread!! ) . So here it is if anyone's interested ( strictly non- FastDay fare . . . . . ) I had to search for the recipe - found it on a very old piece of notepaper held together with Sellotape which had gone a funny orange colour . . . apologies to you young 'uns who use metric - shows you hold the recipe is ( and it's owner !!!!!)
Brown Bread Icecream .
Half- pint x double or whipping cream + a dash of vanilla essence
1oz caster sugar
2-3 oz stale brown bread crumbs
3 oz soft dark brown sugar
Icecream :
1) whip cream & sugar lightly , add vanilla essence. Put into a poly container , covered , and freeze.
2) as mixture hardens at the edges ( after 1 / 1 and a half hours ?) , stir sides into middle and put back in freezer.
3)put crumbs on an oiled or non- stick baking tray and sprinkle over the brown sugar. .
Brown under grill till the sugar caramelises , stirring from time to time. When golden brown , leave to cool and break again into small crumbs.
4)when Icecream is semi-stiff , mix in the crumbs . Freeze for a further 2 hours .
Enjoy as an occasional treat - your guests will be impressed !

I get mad with my iPad which thinks it can correct my grammar for some reason : eg " it's owner " is NOT what I typed in , should read "its owner" . . . . those of you born in the 1950's like me will probably empathise ! I'm trying to LOSE weight but it insists on making me LOOSE weight . . . . loose is what I'd like my waistbands to be . . . here's hoping !
I've given up with the ' it's ' fight on my iPad, life is just too short to start arguing with an inanimate object which never parsed a sentence in its life, but I do understand your frustration

Me too@goldilox x how are the bears by the way! X
Bal@Ballerina was in J Lewis today and reluctantly parted with my last tea n cake voucher for a lovely big jam n cream scone which i shared with my friend..
As the assistant prised my last token from my sweaty paw, i anxiously asked her would i soon receive some more vouchers in the post.
She asked if i had used my JL card in the last three months
No! I replied boldly ( who said that was part of the deal )
So,she said, you won't get any more.
Another assistant however chipped in and told me to check it out with Customer Services, which i will next time I' m in there...
Have another email acct and another assistant a few weeks ago in JL told me to apply under other email moniker..sounds like a plan! XX

Re John Lewis vouchers : why can't we swap our vouchers for soup & a roll ? ( similar price , but would happily pay the extra if req'd !) Have settled for a pot of tea and an Empire Biscuit several times recently at lunchtime . . . . but would have preferred something savoury at lunchtime . John Lewis take note !!!!
Good point Goldi@Goldilox x free soup n roll wd be lovely x ( or a bowl of porridge heehee!)
Have never heard of empire biscuits, what are they like?x

PS CandiceMarie . . . . I've been doing a lot of walking of late in an attempt to keep fit , but avoiding forests just in case ! No sign of the 3 bears but I suspect they're up in the hills somewhere and have rented out their forest house over the summer . . . . . meanwhile OH and I are taking our 2 Grandchildren to France for a " bucket & spade " week - wish us luck !!!!! ( last time we did this , we were 30 years younger ! )
Bucket n spade week sounds fun, hope you get sunny days x
Here's one of the bears..could be Baby! X

Empire Biscuits - apparently renamed during / after the war for political reasons . . . . . ( I believe they were originally known as German biscuits ) Before my time , I might add ! However they're vg : 2 biscuits ( kind of shortbready, but not as buttery) with jam in between , topped with water icing and a glacé cherry ( or in John Lewis's case , a Smartie ! ) on top. So there you have it !
Loved the Baby Bear pic, CandiceMarie ! Our grandchildren are 9 ( girl) and 7 (boy) . Both are "active kids" , into cycling and horse riding . . . . OH and I are in our 60's , quite active , so here's hoping ! We intend to hire bikes in France , which we did in the 1980s when their Mum & her sister were young . . . . now it's all about "elf 'n' safety" ( we'll be on cycle tracks , but now need cycling helmets etc. - how the world's changed !!)
Ah , Ballerina - " parsed" ! Who knows nowadays what parsing means?
I well remember a playground rhyme which went something like this ( circa 1958/9) :
Insert name (eg)
Jeremy Irons is a Noun, parse him up and parse him down .
Neuter gender , hopeless case ,
Subject 2 , a bulldog's face .
Had NO idea what any of this meant ( and still don't ! ) , but you inserted everyone's name in your class as the rhyme went round and round . . . . . . sad to think all these silly rhymes/ sayings are lost in this Facebook / Twitter era . . . .
Or is this a case of "Nostalgia ain't what it used to be " ???

Perhaps it's not what it used to be, I shall let my iPad sort it out because I no longer care, actually I do care but I seem to be in the minority
