Holey Mahoney - you have a summer house in Stockholm archipelago? Where? Then we simply must meet up when you come this way, we live close to the motorway from Arlanda.

It's on Svartlöga, which is east of Nortälje, not too far from Blidö.

We usually fly to Arlanda and get the bus into Stockholm and then the ferry out to the island. This year we're able to get to town in time to get the evening boat but sometimes we have to stay in Stockholm. My MIL has a flat in Stockholm. It would be fun to meet up!

I haven't come here for quite some time and I am really happy to be back ! Happy mother's day to everyone who is concerned. That is a bit strange for me as here Mother's day will be in 2 weeks......

I have a question, lacking time to go cycling or even long walks, I need to find something to do at home, which is not too complicated and don't take all my energy (exit the 30 day shred...) Do you have an idea on what I could do ? thanks !

Hi @Manderley. Do you mean something to do in the form of exercise? I would highly recommend yoga. You can do as much or as little as you please. If it's just something to occupy the grey cells for a while, what about Candy Crush Saga? Very VERY addictive! What about a good book?

It's my dad's birthday today and my sister is enjoying Mother's Day over in Canada. The three of us left over here will pop out for a delicious lunch (something I kept thinking about during my fast yesterday! Ended up eating marshmallows...doh!)

Another gloomy day here and no chance that Bean will make 10 something anytime soon

Manderley, google Lesley Sansone on Youtube. It might help.

I'm sitting here nursing a lovely black coffee and cuddling our old girl. We are convinced that we are doing the right thing for her, as it was so sad to see her go up the field this morning with her tail between her legs. But she's looking more perky now, lying beside me.

Hi @manderley - if you can spare half an hour, a good quick walk 'around the block' blows away the cobwebs, and is also a good stress buster, (so would be good in your current situation) If you keep the pace up, and make sure you get your heart going (but not too mich  ) it will count as exercise. I do this on fast days at work for my 30min lunch break. Also good to be out in the fresh air, and 'sunshine' (hmmm hope you might get more than us  )

@PennyForthem am sure your dog is responding to sitting with you by perking up - and am sure you are doing the right thing, if she can no longer enjoy the outdoors without great difficulty, or pain. Thinking of you this weekend, and looking forward to Friday

:clover:  to you both

Thanks, girls, for your answers

@nursebean I am looking for some kind of exercise to tone up a bit. Yoga can be good, if it's possible to do it on my own at home as I couldn't go to a session, I'll try to find some yoga exercises on youtube

@SilverdarlingUnfortunately, after my injury on Christmas day, I still can't walk for a long period of time as it still hurts quite a bit, that's why I prefer cycling these days....

@PennyForthem Thinking of you and your old girl....

I watched one of her session on youtube and it could be a good compromise as it doesn't ask me the same thing as when you traditionally walk, I mean, you don't have to bend the top of the foot, which is where it hurts. I will try that tonight

Why not try Barbara Currie dvds. I only ever do yoga at home, never bean to a class.

@PennyForThem is your dear friend really suffering or could she be left longer? She's still eating isn't she? I just feel for you because it's just unbearable isn't it. How old is she now?
Big hugs

She is 14, @nursebean. Even this weekend, we have seen slight deterioration. Shortness of breath on her trip around the field for example.
She is still eating (she's had turkey tonight) but I don't want to the criterion of quality of life to be just food. She is now quite asymmetrical around her waist which isn't good, plus she has a shrunken look around her nether quarters. I can tell you, we have both cried today, but the decision is made.

I am sorry too @PennyForthem......that must have been a hard decision.

Yes, and yet an easy one, too in a way.
Our big girl's bowl and lead will pass to puppy and the mantle of pack leader to the oldest springer. Hole in the heart will be filled by middle springer, who will step up to the plate as most loving dog.
AS the oldest of our springers is only just 5, I hope we don't have to face this decision for another 10 years, unless it's me.

@PennyForthem, having had to make that decision on my own for one my cats when OH was working away, you just know when it is the right time. I agree that although it is a horrible decision to make it is easy as well. I also had to do the deed myself which was awful and peaceful at the same time. I'm thinking about you.

I haven't been on this thread for a while and reading about living by the sea made me want to tell you about the most amazing morning I had today. Me and my girls sail on a Sunday from April to September. My girls started it and the organiser encouraged me to give it a go. This means squeezing into a wetsuit and getting wet and cold in the Moray Firth, just off the North Sea - nuts, I know but such fun and I love it. I tend to sail in a boat for two - a double hander. Today one of the organisers decided that three of the adults needed a bit more experience as did some of the people in the safety boats. First of all he had us steering without a rudder just by using the sails and by moving our body weight. We then learned how to sail backwards. Then the big one  we had to do a capsize drill. I have spent the last 3 or 4 years managing to avoid capsizing but not today. Because the weather was not too windy the hardest thing was trying to capsize the boat not righting it! It was an amazing experience and I'm all bashed and bruised including a bit of a black eye when we righted the boat too much and it went over again and a bit of the ballast hit me. I now feel so much more confident in my sailing abilities.
