I like ancient history & named my cat Isis who is sadly no longer with us. Isis was an Egyptian goddess with attitude & earth mother links, so being a mother of two & getting on a bit

Mine is from our dearly beloved but now departed cat. When my youngest daughter was growing up Sacha got the name Sacha the cat and it stuck, she was Sacha the cat for about 10 years
Lovely colour, azure blue. Colour of distant clear sky, reflects well in calm seas, cool and unassuming.
Instead of the crazy old grandma I really am!

I live on a sailing boat and I enjoy assessing the weather patterns and planning our routes - we sailed from South Africa to the Caribbean and USA then over to Gibraltar in the 1990s and since 2009 we have sailed from Scotland through the Mediterranean as far as Cyprus. I started off with a sextant and paper charts many years ago and now we also use the latest electronic equipment.

I was entranced and wanting more until that third line...
Nothing wrong with crazy old grandmas! I'm married to one.
(Shhhh!! Don't tell her I said that!)

<LOL>
No, no! Not my point at all. More like this:
"Jake liked his women how he liked his kiwi fruit; firm yet yielding, sweet yet tart, and covered with short fuzzy brown hair."
See?
Well, my username, bordergirl, describes and defines me. You know that John Denver song (yeah, I'm old ),"Rocky Mountain High?" There's a line in it, something like: "He was born in the summer of his 27th year, born to a place he'd never been before." To me it refers to the way moving to a different and magical place can blow away your previous persona and redefine you. It was like that for me when I was 15 and we moved from the heart of the Midwest to Yuma, Arizona, right on the border with Mexico. I immediately felt as though I had lived here in a previous life. The border gave me a new language (and then 2 more), a new culture, my profession (bilingual teacher of Spanish and ESL), a love for the Southwestern Desert, my Arizona native husband (Tucson) , and my identity. Many of us have lived our lives with a foot in each country, in each culture. The important thing about the border (any border) is the way it can unite people, rather than dividing them. Now I live a couple of hundred milesnorth of the border instead of a few miles, but it doesn't matter because I still carry that border in my heart. Whew! Pretty long-winded!
I really do love this thread! It's great to read all your stories
I just love listening to jazz music. Sometimes the combination of voice, instruments, rhythms and patterns makes my soul soar, like a bird flying. Hence Jazzbird.
Got inspiration from a place in the Southern edge of the Highlands of Scotland called Dhanakosa. It's a retreat set on the edge of the very beautiful loch Voil, just beyond Balquidder (famous or infamous for being the village where Rob Roy lies buried).
I have done my fair share of travelling round this beautiful world of ours but the beauty and tranquillity of this little place is unmatched. (Unlike me I might add - but nice to have something to aspire to!)

greenmonster - totally stole the name from the green smoothies made by the blogger of one of my favourite websites, Oh She Glows. http://ohsheglows.com/ - I just love the food she makes - it all looks so fresh, clean and tasty and I've made some of the things too and they all seem to have worked well.
And I work part time in environmental education and so the 'green' thing just sounded right too. The picture came from simply googling 'green monsters' and picking my favourite and then following the instructions someone put on here to add it to my profile.
I like to be a bit anonymous on here, as I often share things that I don't want everyone who knows me to be able to find. But I imagine that anyone who knows me and has read through my posts enough would probably recognise me!

I didn't choose mine, it was given to me. My real name is forn Nordic for she wolf, but non of my English speaking online friends could pronounce it correctly. So one day one of them came up with Wolfie and I loved it so much that I have used it online ever since. He, I have even toyed with the thought to exchange one of my given for names (have three) with it
