Just need to add two chicks! One hatched last Thursday and looks like a pure buff Orpington, the other hatched this afternoon and looks like a Buff and Tri colour Sussex cross. Hope the new one survives.

I have two sweet, fuzzy, fluffy kitties!

Named after Lord of the Rings characters, haha. Both are turning six this year.

Baggins and Gamgee!

Took a very poorly Bailey to the vets last night - he hadn't wanted a walk in the morning (first time ever in all the 10 years I've had him) and in fact we got about five minutes up the road before I decided to turn back. He was just plodding along more and more slowly until he stopped with his head hanging, looking miserable.
When I came home from work there were liquid heaps of sick and a patch of wee in the back bedroom and he still looked very depressed. Was in two minds whether to call the vet but when I offered him a tiny little bit of ham and he turned away (he'd normally almost have my hand off!) I knew something was definitely wrong.

Thankfully managed to get an evening appointment and saw the senior vet who was worried about him, given his age and the fact he'd had an upset tummy only a few weeks before. He gave me some prebiotic paste to squirt in his mouth using a big dispenser gun thing, and said that if he wasn't any better this morning to take him back and they'd do an ultrasound on his tummy in case it was anything more serious.

Made for an interesting fast day yesterday, especially as I'd been to the gym after work and done my second bout of C25K on the treadmill. What with going to the vets and scrubbing carpets I didn't actually sit down to eat my first bite of food til nearly 9pm last night!

Not sure if he's massively better this morning, but I did offer him a tiny bit of ham and he wolfed it down so thinking that's at least a bit of a positive sign. Going to try him with a walk and see if he's interested in that. In two minds whether to take him back to the vets or not though - it might just be a tummy bug I'm thinking, especially as he was absolutely fine the day before and it seemed to come on really suddenly?

Ohhhh aren't they a worry!

It's so nice to hear about everyone's pets! (And take a break from talking about our weight, and eating, or not eating...)

mole3, I have a Manx cat too, who was also a rescue! He too gets along well with dogs - first my Poodle/Wheaten terrier cross, and now my Maltese cross. (Sometimes I think he thinks he is one!) Not sure what I would do without the two of them, life would be much more boring. And I wouldn't have an excuse to spend Saturday afternoons at the dog park!! It's one of my favourite activities. Anyone else head to the dog park for exercise??(both you and the dog haha)

Thanks for the well wishes! The good news is that he seems all better again - has regained a healthy interest in walkies and ham! He's still having his disgusting malt-flavoured prebiotic paste and rice and chicken instead of his normal dinner, but he's pretty much back to normal I'm pleased to say :)

The bad news is that no sooner did Bailey seem to be on the mend than the husband developed gastroenteritis, that he picked up while away on a course this week (lots of other people at the hotel developed it). So I've been playing nurse to him fetching him rehydration drinks and ice cubes to suck.

Looking forward to next weekend hopefully containing no medical dramas!

Have you considered probiotics? They seem to work excellently ;-)

Miniature Poodle, goes by the name of Groucho aka The Grouch.
Six lovely laying chickens of various hues and ages. All laying still which is great.
The Grouch likes to pretend that the chickens are sheep and he's a border collie when we let them all out in the garden. He rounds them up beautifully. While he loves it, I'm not altogether sure they share his enthusiasm.
I haven't started shouting "Come by!" yet as I think the neighbours may start getting worried.
Oh - I have a lovely husband as well - does he count?

Hi Everyone,

what a nice topic... I have 2 cats,
My ginger tom cat is called Sandy. He is a big boy, not overweight just big! I inherited him about 7 yrs ago after my aunt passed away from cancer, he is my boy! A big spoilt moggy!
Then we have our little gray and white female cat called Molly, she is nearly 5, she is my 15 yr old daughters cat, after she begged me to get her a kitten! she is the most loving sooky cat you will come across, and is most definatly the BOSS! They both get along as long as sandy knows his place!

And lastly I have an ageing peach hamster called Bridget! She is a character, loves to be fed, can smell toast as soon as its on and especially loves it with peanut butter! She is terribly noisy tho and chews on the bars of her cage all night long! doesnt matter that she has wheels, chew stuff and toys to bite...no she likes to make as much noise as possible!

We have an eight year old black lab, called Suzie. She was a rescue dog and had been badly treated. She is nervous of loud noises but has excellent manners. We never have any problem in finding a place for her to stay with the neighbours if we have to be away. They compete to have her!

We also have three cats. One we found at the edge of a field ditch, just curled up in a little ball. He's Sam and we asked around, put him on missing/found animal websites, put posters up in the nearest shops (three miles away). He had been neutered and was well cared for but no-one ever came for him. The other two cats, Poppy and Lola we re-homed from a friend of our daughters, when she could no longer keep them.

We also have four hens, random breeds. One of them is called Flit, because she is a very flighty hen, and three of them, named by our three year old granddaughter, Red, White and Black! I bet you can't guess what colours they are! Like many of you hen owners, we are awash with eggs at the moment and I keep giving them away to our farming neighbours. Sometimes I just put a bowl of eggs outside the gate with a sign saying 'Help Yourself'.

I wouldn't want to be without any of our animals, even though having pets means that there is always going to be that awful time when you have to let them go.
