Re: Lost 20% of start weight

yep its just a fraction expressed as a percentage so you do the division and multiply by 100

so in my case.

start weight 75kg
target weight : 68kg (total loss of 8kg)
current weight : 71.8 kg.
so total lost thus far is 75-71.8 = 3.2kg

so to get the percentage ....

3.2 divided by 75 = .0426 ( a fraction)

multiply 0.426 x 100 to get the percentage or just shift the . 2 places to right so its 4.2%

NOW..

my target loss is 8kg

so currently ive lost 3.2kg divided by 8kg = 0.4

to convert 0.4 to percentage its

0.4 x 100 = 40%

so I'm 40% of my target loss. YIPPEEE

now if you ask me to teach logs or probabilities and the other things my daughter does in math, thats another story.

Or you could do it in your head the easier/less specific way as I did. Suppose your starting weight was 200lbs (for easiest math) 10% would be 20 lbs and double that for 20% which would be 40lbs.

I worked my way through college as a waitress; so 20% is the one that I learned to figure in my head quickly. If the gratuity earned was less than 20% I was not very happy. ;)

mental arithmetics is definitely a skill, and a skill that can be practised.

Now we are talking

My original original wish was to lose 15kgs, a dream I have carried for about as many years. So at my lowest weight I have lost 12kgs = 80% of my dream target weight lost.

Then when BMI came into the picture I thought 70kgs. Thinking meh now about that as it is a stretch but I just redid my calculations and I have actually lost approx 13.4% body weight.in 6 months.

Thanks for the new perspective, this thread has been very positive way to look at our overall progress

I am an accountant so I have a spreadsheet in which I track my weight, body fat % and measurements, including % change and BMI and a conversion to kgs and cm for the monthly weigh in on this forum. My OH thinks it's hilarious that I do this

I have lost 16% of my starting weight and I am at target. I have also lost 19% body fat.

Great News Pennyforthem!
I hope to be there someday. So far I have lost 10% which is really good for me but would like more toward 20% like you. I believe I will get there.

I'm bumping your great thread @PennyForthem, just for fun!
Last September 2013 I'd lost 14.5% of my starting weight and lost 45% of the weight I wanted to lose.
Now I have lost 22% of my starting weight and 65% of what I want to lose. Yay! :victory:
Whose next?

Overall, I've shed 36% of my start weight - and that's 56% of my current weight, which is a very sobering thought.
