Morning 36 5:2ers - feeling good this morning, not as lightheaded as for the first few 36ers so won't worry about breaking my fast yet - will look forward to a luscious banana late morning and then some lunch later. Have a good day everyone. Minumonline - enjoy the sunshine 'cos the radio's just said the weather's going to break :frown: Hope that brief flash of sun yesterday/today isn't our only summer
Morning All
36 hour fasting Tuesday and Thursday this week.
I was going to do a normal 5:2, with 500cals today but I made such a pig of myself over the weekend, I need the discipline of a 36 hour!! Actually I quite enjoy them, once I get started. I think the trick is to keep busy during the day, plenty of black tea and water, and then an early bed!
Really pleased to see how many of you are doing so well.
Good morning everyone,

Sounds like you all did well. I did not break my supporting mini fast yesterday til 9 p.m. and then just had some chicken before I turned in for the night.

I might join Wildmissus (did you have a good weekend?)and the rest of the gang on Thursday, will see how it goes, well done to one and all. :victory:

Hello all. I'm water fasting today. Had a pretty indulgent bank holiday weekend so need to get back into a routine this week!
Hi gang, I'm in today also for liquid fasting.
Not in work today so I'm hoping that wirey energy kicks in as I've a ton of housework to do
Sounds like most people had an indulgent bank holiday and are getting back on the wagon today....

I'm in today too after a weekend away, but not too much damage caused as lots of walking and running to offest the wine and chocoloate fingers and popcorn....

Liquids only - but it will include around 150 cals as will have 1/2 strength protein shakes, miso soup and bouillon as needed to keep me going...

It worked for me the last 2 weeks so going to carry on whilst I still want to drop weight (11 lbs left to go to target this morning  ). Once I get to target weight, I'll may be have a rethink of how to manage my week and fasts to suit me best.
Yesterday was a looooong loooooooooooooooooong day, don't know why. The water fast made it drag out a bit more I think, so used to nibbling on a bank holiday! But feel really good for it today and have been out to the shops in the glorious sunshine, broke a sweat and now feel a million dollars.

Broke my fast in perhaps not the best way - with one of them biccies I saved from yesterday! Have since had a nice bio yogurt and it was delish. Sadly my banana has lied to me about it's edibility - the skin was perfect, but it's still crunchy inside :(

No more water fasts until I'm back from holiday now - so will probably be joining you again on May 20th :D Wow, that seems like ages away.

Good luck to everyone else meanwhile!
Just broke my fast - after 34 hours, this time - with a light breakfast of curried, fruity, naan bread with half a banana. Then I had two ginger biscuits straight away after. Honestly, the days I don't eat are much easier!

Only 34 hours because I was baking until after midnight on Sunday, so I had to taste the loaf, didn't I - half past 12 before I put down the bread knife!

Oh, I should say I had a (very) low calorie dinner with my wife, yesterday. I've got it down to 71 calories for a side plate absolutely full of - mainly celery and mushrooms, curried, of course, and very filling.

So it wasn't a complete fast.

Now I've got just under 6 days of unrestricted eating to look forward to. [mixed blessing emoticon]

Enjoy your bread, Moogie! You deserve it if anyone does!

Cheers, B&W
Well done yesterday's 36ers and best of luck to today's 36ers :-)

I really wish I could do a 36er today after the Bank Holiday weekend indulgences but DH is planning a nice meal tonight and I want to eat it with him so it'll be a normal 24 hour 500 cal fasting day today. He's well prepared for me doing a 36er on Thursday though so that should go ahead fine.

Jem I believe going 24-36 hours without eating provides optimum health benefits - it gives the digestive system a proper amount of time to rest and allows the body a good chunk of time to "repair". But it's not necessary on the 5:2 WOE. We're just extending the 5:2 fast by eliminating the 500 cals and several researchers (including those featured on the original Horizon documentary) recommend a zero calorie fast. Dr Moseley only suggested a 500 cal meal (or broken down into several small meals) within a 24 hour period because he (quite rightly) assumed this was what most people could handle. But some of us have found we can handle a calorie free total fast. So this is our thread

This is how I do it:
Wednesday night - last meal completed by 9pm. No more food.
Thursday - no food
Friday - 9am break my fast = 36 hours.
It's now almost 7am here in Ontario and I'm just getting ready to make myself breakfast after fasting for 38 hours. I don't feel hungry so might just have a protein shake. Congrats to all casters.
Can I ask when you go liquid only, is skimmed milk in tea permitted, or does this count as solids? And do you think it increases your average weekly weiht loss overall?
Hi! I actually silently joined you yesterday. It was my second fast, first time going 36 hours. I wasn't sure how I would do, but I read this thread for inspiration.

I actually felt completely fine. It is morning here, and I have about 3 more hours to make it 36 hours, as I ate very late on Sunday night. But I just had a cup of tea, and I have my breakfast and lunch packed for work. I will easily make it the full 36 hours.

I have lost about 25 lbs since October, following a low-glycemic diet. I plan to continue following that, or at least continue to be aware of carbs and glycemic index, while doing 5:2.

I'm so excited with this so far!
Welcome to the forums and congratulations on your weight loss :-)
I missed this thread until Tuesday morning. I did fast on May 6, not eating until 7 pm. That was salmon, veggie and banana. I did not count the calories. Before that just tea, coffee and water.
Question: What do you have for a liquid day?
I'm back home to 10 degrees and sea haar, Worcestershire was 20 degrees and pure sunshine. :frown: I'm on a 36 today but I had a polo mint on the aeroplane as flying bothers my ears and I also had a diet coke. I'll just ignore that as the rest of the 36 will be water and herbal tea.

I had a lovely weekend. I didn't need to lift a finger, we had a spa afternoon, a couple of long country walks, a retail therapy day yesterday followed by meeting carorees and AbbieTaylor. We ate out, we had an Indian carryout, and my friend made lovely food so I really need two 36ers this week - today and Thursday.

Franglaise and Kate, personally liquid means tap water, sparkling water and herbal tea. I don't take milk in my tea anyway but if I did I would be happy enough having 2 or 3 cups on a liquid fast day as I wouldn't want to drink something I didn't like. I know others are doing purely water fasts. I'm happy just knowing that I'm not eating, personal choice I guess.

Franglaise, the first 2 x 36ers I did I lost 3lbs having messed about with the same pound or two over the previous 3 or 4 weeks. Week 2 of 36 I put on 1lb but it was TOTM. Week 3 is this week and it has been an indulgent weekend so I'll need wait and see.
