Hahaha, Wendydarling's reply of me and the burly wet fish
Part of my job and something I'm passionate about is Health and Safety.
Haven't thought of enfourcement aided and abetted with a wet fish though....

Bimey, you've all been busy in here.
I was in the land of nod by 11 last night, slept all night, dragged self out of bed at 7.30 to see to dogs and am enjoying second coffee, while hubs slumbers on. Is this what no alcohol + exercise does for you? I'm likin' it!!
Crossfit? Something I've not heard of before. Can anyone enlighten me please? I can sort of guess, but where does coffee fit in?

We have our Malaysian banquet tonight - it's all booked! I shall start with Pandan leaf chicken...dribble....

Looks like everyone's asleep ... Except me - it's been MY turn to have printer problems (altho not posh wi fi  ) I've just spent best part of 90 mins fiddling about changing cartridges (Tesco one were £18 cheaper, the set - now I know why    ) and also figuring out how to do two-sided printing ( and NO JOKES from you @Ballerina about printing on both sides of the paper at once ...  ) - the latter was mainly pilot trouble - no not the captain's knee sort, but just plain stupidity ... anyway, discovered that in the online manual, two-sided printing is called duplex .. Never heard of that before, thought it was an American apartment like Karen is in ...

Would like to go to sleep, but too frazzled, so may stick around a bit  :dazed:

I can 2 side print but I always wondered what duplex was. Thanks for that, I thought it was some kind of American apartment too. Well, you live and learn.

Hi Kim squared. I'm here. Have had tech probs. I think I overan my limit on my wifi hot spot so it chucked me out. Managed to rig up another one on my new droid phone. 6pm here now and trying to amuse myself with bbc I player. A few Graham Norton's saved. Good chuckle.

And yes, karen, the driving, atrocious, riding motor cycles without helmets. Unbelievable! Infringement of civil liberties I was told. I asked whose civil liberties were infringed when the ambos had to scrape them off the road?!

Many states have their own rules on things like guns and motorcycle helmets. An general rule of thumb is "blue" states (i.e. voted Democrat in the last Presidential race) tend to have more safety laws than "red" states - the "bluer" the state, the more this tends to be true. I live in NY - very blue - we have strong gun laws and you have to have a helmet on when you ride a motorcycle.

Although I have to say, I have never ever seen an armed guard at a post office before!

Funny WendyDarling and Silverdarling - when I see Duplex on English and French hotel sites, they mean a two-storey hotel suit or apartment. Here in the states, duplex means two houses that share a wall - like this:

(that's a big one - most tend to be smaller, I think)

So Tracieknits. What color is California? Armed guard at the social security office yesterday. As if I needed it to be pointed out to me that it's an offence to kill a federal employee  Nice intro to a new country

California is weird LOL! But you should learn right away to never ask a New Yorker about California, because it won't be kind ;-) I mean it's pretty different from NY and since NY is awesome.... Edit: okay, looked it up and they're as "safe" as ny with regard to gun laws
http://smartgunlaws.org/category/gun-la ... mparisons/

I haven't been to a Social Security office in years - I don't know what's going on that they feel they need an armed guard! That's pretty weird to me. I'm a country bumkin now though, so what do I know? Around here, we really only have them in the courthouses by the metal detectors, and at the airports. I would imagine the cities have more of them, like in big banks and some other federal buildings.

Glad to hear our American cousins' take on it!!! I shall post this link here too for you to read, an American's take on Australia Day, very perceptive, and true

I should have guessed that about the different states. There is a Federal approach to things like that here although states have their own laws for most things. OHS now is a Federally based issue, as is gun control. It reminded me of the Philippines where tey had an armed guard at MacDonalds, probably to act if someone complained about the rubbish food

You all lead much more exciting lives than me, I'm delighted to say!!
I have been up since before the crack of dawn, but at last puppy is exhausted - and so am I, so puppy's back in her cage and I'm going back to bed, which I don't think is against the law in Wales.
Even if it were against the law, they'll never find me under that duvet xx

LOL @PennyForThem! I'd like a duvet that big :-)

I had a friend once say she thought dog crating was cruel. Then I pointed out that it's a lot more cruel to have her choke to death on my shoe while I sleep! I think my current dog was almost 2 before I could trust her to not chew the wrong things up and hurt herself while she was alone.

Great article @Debs! I agree Australia is a wonderful country! I just wish it weren't such a very long plane ride as six hours makes me antsy!!
