I don't know why I've missed this thread but I'd like to add my commitment to a dry January.
I don't normally drink much, say a bottle of wine a month, but from mid November through to the end of December I was drinking every night and in particular using alcohol to get me to sleep. I have lots of wine, beer, cider, WKD, vodka, bicardi, brandy and Glayva in the house - blimey! I last had a drink at about 2am on the 1st January. I've not caved in yet but over the last couple of evenings I have fancied a glass of wine or a brandy and lemonade. I'm pleased to say that I can deal with alcohol cravings so should be able to last the month. I just wish I could deal with food in the same way.

I'm in and have found it a bit easier than I thought I would. The only time I drank was because I've enrolled on a dry January study and they asked me to keep drinking up until the "before" tests were done, so I've had half a bottle of wine and one beer on 4th January; I may keep it going a bit longer as I can't drink until they do the "after" tests.
I'm sleeping a bit better (don't get too hot in the middle of the night), and I'm hoping that it will help with weight loss and being able to get up and exercise more easily.
Good luck to everyone not partaking this month.

I have ended my dry January challenge. It's a bit early but I had a celebration,
Our local small football team drew with the mighty manutd last night and I wasnt going to let that go unnoticed. Two big glasses of red wine and a Chinese takeaway "on a fast day " indeed. Have woken with a massive headache, but hey ho. Happy faces all round.
I think I'm going to have to commit to sat night wine only from now on otherwise I may drop back into old habits. Continuing with the Friday fasts will definitely help.
Good luck everyone else and keep up the good work.

I'm still going - one more week. Thought about quitting a couple of times this weekend but staying strong I think. After that, like carieoates, don't want to sink back into bad habits so will have to try and stick to weekends only, or only when we are out and/or not buy much alcohol for the house, etc.
Good luck everyone still "hanging in there."

I'm hanging in there till next weekend ...... it's been a quiet month socially so in that sense I've not been tested too much. @Carieoates congrats to your team, that's certainly an occasion worth joining in a celebrating with friends. I'm maintaining, not losing but I wondered if the three weeks of no alcohol helped you in continuing to lose, like it did in October?
Visiting family next weekend, so there WILL be wine at meal times and I will enjoy
One week to go

Yep, I'm hanging in there too. I am really looking forward to a glass of wine but I'll resist for another week. I think I only want it because I can't have it. As I now fast on a Friday I'll be keeping my alcohol days to Saturday and Sunday.

Yes I find that the friday fast day helps me immensely,
Its February today and I haven't had a drink yet - BUT its the Superbowl today, still only a.m. and the day is young - however, quite honestly, I don't really want to get back on that slippery slope when one drink leads to another. I'm feeling thinner too. Hope I can keep it up, or at least be very careful .
Think OH will be buying beer , but luckily wine is my downfall (and the occasional vodka and orange juice) and we only have some of my non-alco wine in the house.

I've done it a whole month without alcohol. I've just finished my dinner and having a cup of tea. In about an hours time I will be slobbed on the couch in front of some rubbish on the tv with a glass of wine in hand. I can't wait.
oh, oh - I did it, less one day!!! I had a glass of red wine Sat 31st with my Mum and Dad, first visit since Xmas so YES!
I might do a two week abstinence in Feb - thinking about that

Well done everyone.
It's such a great achievement to stop consuming something. Sugar, chocloate, alcohol, whatever it is. .
There comes a point when you stop thinking or obsessing about what you're not having anymore,
So what's next Soberista's.

Reporting in to say I had two glasses of wine last night. Apart from those two glasses I'm aiming for an alcohol free Feb.
Cool tent, like WildMissus I missed it until just now when I saw it in the post line. I had a sober January and joined the 21st March challenge with "no alcohol". So then it will be three months without any until Easter.
I have very rarely thought about drinking or missing a glass these past weeks which amazes me pretty much myself. I like red wine and champagne and, of course, beer. Quite a few of my gained weight over the decades came from the combination alcohol & carbs in the evening... so beside the amounts I ate that was reason number 1 for my overweight...
The doing great without might be the fasting as well, dunno Maybe it lets the craving vanish... There is an alcohol-free beer I like very much yet due to its carbs I rarely drink it in the evening.
But I do look forward to have a nice glass of red or even a cocktail in April... that is for sure.
Cheers

I'm doing dry Feb (it's a short month)! I didn't participate in dry Jan so I'm behind everyone else.
