Re: The 4:3 tent is up.
02 Jul 2014, 07:50
I did 4:3 for months before I had to stop because I was losing too much and had some "issues" because of that. Now that everything is back to normal, I am giving it another go as I really prefer that to 16:8:

I am not losing much weight but am changing my diet slowly, which I guess is the best way to do it.

It's important to find our proper WOE and it can take times. For me, 4:3 works better but I made it suit me. So I do 2 "proper" fasts (500 cal max) and a whole day fast with a regular dinner. It gives me the luxury to not watch too much what I eat on a regular day which is great as I hate counting calories. I just need to be careful to not lose weight to not go in the underweight side again.

So glad things seem to have stabilised for you @Manderley I'm still plodding along whittling away small amounts on occasion, today completes my fastdays this week having done Mon/Tues back2back plus today
and I'm feeling very good again today presumably down to the lower carb few days I've put in. :clover: :clover:
Come on back in Dee I don't like it when you go to quiet and I'm needing some 4:3 company @justdee.

I am loving this WOE! 4:3 with 16:8 and low carbing seems to suit me and I have now lost a stone since I started again in June though my tracker doesn't reflect that as i had l lost a few pounds before it was adjusted. I hope to lose another 7lbs before our holiday in August so my holiday clothes (which I only wear abroad) look a bit better!
p.s. First attempt at a smilie - I am learning something everyday from this great forum.X

Well done @slimmer Your first stone gone for good this time, the 4:3/low carb mix works well for you.

Can I pop in & say hello? Like Slimmer I have started 4:3ing, 16:8 ing & trying to keep my carbs low for the past two weeks to try & boost my weight loss. I seem to be losing only near to one pound a week but at least I am going downwards again! Since Christmas my body seems to have become totally uncooperative despite adding in more exercise. In desperation I have also just bought the The Fast Beach Diet on Kindle that I know is a rehash of The Fast Diet but does have a good motivational & tips section about tightening up on calories on eating days. I think I did become a little complacent using fasting as a sort of problem solver for over indulging at the weekend. I am going away to Malta for one week on 18th July & hoping to lose as much weight as I can before then. Unfortunately there are going to be many family eating out opportunities before my sons wedding at the beginning of September & although I can get into my size 16 close fitting dress it would look better & be more flattering if it was a looser fit

Welcome @Isis Just what is happening to both of us?
We did so well last year but our body's seem to be rebelling for whatever reason, I'd welcome the little losses providing they become regular, just over one pound this week for me. (650grams) to be precise lol
so I've still not got back to my pre holiday weight yet.
The lowering of carbs does seem to work better for me especially with my water retention so I'm sticking with this to run alongside 4:3, Good luck. :clover: :clover:

I've realised it's pretty much impossible for me to stick to 4:3, as I always seem to have some kind of work do, family meal or drinks with friends on a Thursday or Friday, which scuppers my plans for a 3rd non-consecutive fast.

Last week I saw the lowest I've seen on the scales since starting this WOE, so it's gradually working, even with some heavy meals out and 5:2ing, but then I had a series of meals out last weekend and have put on 3lb just like that (considering I'd only lost 6.5lb overall this is bad news). I'm hoping it's mainly water weight but still, disheartening!

I'm considering doing what some other fasters do and properly fasting (400-500 cals) on 2 days, and on the third day just not eating breakfast or lunch but still not missing out on any social events for dinner. I have got into a habit of not having breakfast, I don't miss it too much and it saves me a couple of hundred cals a day too. I used to think it was bad to skip breakfast, but this forum has made me rethink!

I really want to speed up this weight loss, but at the same time I don't want to start restricting myself so much that it starts to feel like a diet and I resent it, so I'm indulging when the event calls for it, and otherwise trying to just not eat too much. Which is easier said than done.

Italian tonight, BBQ Saturday and afternoon tea at Claridges on Sunday. I've got no chance!

Sorry, this was more of a stream of consciousness than a constructive post. Feeling fat and needed to vent.

Well done to those of you successfully 4:3ing!

I would enjoy your weekend and tackle it afresh next week. Sometimes it does our body good to have a good feed!

Thanks Sue & I have no idea why we are struggling but it is very frustrating :frown:
I think lower carbs certainly seems to allow less fluid retention & with all my hopping to the loo at least I'm getting some more exercise
I will be weighing tomorrow & would love to have lost more than one pound. I am hoping by the end of July that I will be below 12 stone but I am going to have to be very very careful with what I eat on holiday because I love eating out  & enjoying different food is part of being on holiday!
Lottie the flexibility of 5:2ing is what makes it workable but requires a long term focus that I certainly know has its ups & downs but does allow us to build in special events. The trick I suppose is to get straight back to it & certainly keep within the 500 cals on fast days. I am trying extra things at the moment for a few weeks because I have run out of time before my sons wedding in September but I will always 5:2 for the health benefits as well & believe when I get to the maintenance stage 5:2 is the only way to go!

@lottie89 Enjoy your weekend then start afresh on
Monday doing true 500 cal fasts for a couple of days
I eat out lots and lots of times and last year this wasn't a problem for me however things change and I need to take into account my reducing TDEE.
All my other days are now 16:8 so this does help and the fasting all day with only drinks then evening meal out regardless of calories ( The Eat Stop Eat ) method was a great success for me a couple of days on top of 5:2 because I'm fine until I eat so wait for eve meal only,
this is well worth a try for you just midweek, then eat with caution over a weekend better still reducing your carb intake that certainly helps with water weight. :clover: :clover:

I'm here @Sue.Q just had a busy few days. You have good reason to worry when I go quiet haha but I've been a good girl. Thanks for keeping an eye on me, I need it :) . 3rd fast today and it's going well, don't think the scales will be on my side tomorrow though as that time of month again and feeling bloated. Even though I feel bloated I've been pulling my jeans up all day so somethings happening.

Well done on the back2back @Karenm :like:
But you obviously didn't enjoy the experience, were all
so very different, I'm fine doing them, in fact if I could have my own way I'd do the fast five for five lol
Wouldn't go down well with hubby, so I'm plodding on.
Are you back in the 4:3 tent again or just a trial week? :clover:
