Well, at the time I started I was a fish-eating veggie so a few fasting meals were Quorn fillet/escalope and lots of veg, but I always had lots of veg anyway. I just reduced the number & frequency of potatoes/chips/pasta spirals. Since then I dumped pasta altogether, still eat potatoes happily (and sweet potatoes) and the starchy veg like carrots & parsnips that others avoid - but generally do enough exercise to justify them. In maintenance I have returned to full-fat milk, butter, coconut oil etc and most recently a small amount of meat in the form of liver pate or similar, as a bit of an experiment. I had few problems going 24 hours between meals, even when doing some exercise, but now will always eat something carby after anything more serious than a half-hour walk as it seems to aid muscle recovery.

PS 90% chocolate is your friend - just one square after your meal as a treat!

Hi Men! I started on Nov 11th and like a lot of responders think that this works so well for men. My wife did well a few years back on weigh watchers, I did for about three months but lost the will. I hate watching diet every day. I think that over all this is much easier, possibly slower but stick-able! My wife on the other hand feels that she could not do the fasts.
I eat no breakfasts on fast days, only a boiled egg around one and then an evening meal of either chicken and rice or fish and veggies. I find sleeping better if I have a low calorie drink at ten. All under 550-600 kcal. I over ate the last couple of days but am definitely back on track.
I also drink plenty of appropriate fluids on fast days. It gets easier.

Still here. 11 months completed now and as enthusiastic as when I started. My weight still fluctuates but when it gets too high then I revert from 6:1 maintaining to 5:2ing. I have total control and no guilt feeling associated with short periods of over-indulgence.
I was reading some of the diets that were detailed in the papers around new year and it was so clear as to why I would fail on them. So much measuring and food type matching may work for some people but it is definitely not for me. I am 5:2 all the way. It is simple and uncomplicated and I completely understand how to make it work for me.

Hi Guys

I'm back again. 9 months after starting, and (sadly) 4 months after stopping!

I lost a little under 2 stone easily last year, then had a "week off" before a 3 week mega-holiday. Thought getting back on the bike would be easy, but I was wrong. Half-heartedly 5:2'd up to December and actually maintained the weight I was post-holiday so in reality I should'e be upset with that.

So, back again at original start weight, and already losing at a good rate.

Great to see some familiar faces around.

Hi guys!

Thought I'd join you, after a tip on this "Men Only!"-thread

I'm keeping thread over in the journal section, but have previously been a member of a similar thread for men with great benefit. My impression is that men motivate differently than women on diet forums.

Shortly summarised I am closing in on 40 and have lost 21 kg the last three years with generally eating less and starting to do swimming, running and other activities. Now I find myself at a halt, and need the boost, a new way of doing things to get of the last 6-7 kg. I am also motivated by all the other benefits of 5:2, and I am very exited to try this out!

That might well be the case    :clover: :clover: :clover: :like: :like: :like:   :?:
Best motivation will be the great results, the relative ease to do it and the sense of controle and victory in the process :victory:

Yes, you might find our posts somewhat more 'down to earth' :sleepy: (see above)

Anyway, we can leave this Tent under the watchful eye of @Ballerina - she will keep order and make sure the blokes don't get too blokey ...

Or from over the pond, @Betsysgr8 has been known to put in an appearance and lob in a comment - or two :victory:
