Hi everyone, just popping in to say hi, so..."hi"!

@Mountainmyst...sorry to hear you've got a migraine. Hope it soon goes off.

I've had a great day today. My darling dog, Poppy, has been given the all clear from her cancer. This couldn't be better news because she means the world to me. I love her to bits and she deserves a break because she's been so poorly these past two years and so brave.

Also I had my 6-weekly doctor's appointment and my dr informed me that I should hopefully hear from a specialist. Something I've been waiting for since she referred me about 3 months ago!! Anyway, if I do get some useful advice I will eagerly share it with you all. I really hope it helps.

Today my heavy coat is back. Does anyone else have that feeling? It's soooo heavy I have constant neck, back and arm ache. Just hope it'll feel better when I get to my ideal weight...thanks to this wonderful WOL!

Well, take care everyone and have a good day/evening.

Hugs xxxx

You could print a copy of the spoon theory (loads of info online). I had the "thought you would be better by now" just once. It's such a tricky one. Many people genuinely don't know how to deal with chronic illness. But then few of us are trained to do so. And probably, when we were 100% fit and healthy, there were times when we failed to understand it ourselves. It's human nature I suppose.

Long term illness is often compared to bereavement, and we go through the same emotions. Denial, anger, bargaining, depression, acceptance. It's not a straight line, we flit in and out of these emotions, some people might be lucky to jump straight to acceptance  Nowadays, I think that if I struggle to accept how I am, then how can I expect others to deal with it. Doesn't stop me having days when I want to howl at the moon though

Best wishes to everyone.

I agree with you Izzy..While it IS very hurtful when people dont understand what i go through.i dont understand this illness either, tho i experience it most days of the year, year in year out..so how can i expect other people to. It WOULD help tho if people didnt say tactless things...and would be so nice if more people in our lives were like @Callyanna and just took a little time to read up on CFS a bit..i would so appreciate that from friends
And yep ive done a lot of howling too from time to time! love to all xxxxxxx

Thanks Caro for that xx
The theory that people get CFS when their mitochondria goes awry really resonates with me
Each cell of the body has its own little mitro power pack so its not difficult to imagine how " dead" we can feel when they arent sparking
I read a book about CFS called " Running on Empty" ...that title explains totally how i feel much of the time ..i pray that the repair element of IF will harvest great results for all us fasters with all our various health probs ..at least we're trying our best to help ourselves! X

Bean i totally understand and i'm glad you've given it a name...
mine is no longer constant, but i think its one of the worst things to have to put up with as its so depleting, and when my arms ache, somehow i cant rest them..i try sort of lying my arms along pillows and cushions but it doesnt work. The bright side is that its a symptom that has lessened for me over time..hope same will happen to you also x ps great news about Poppy x

This is about problems I encountered trying to buy a mastectomy bra next Monday from Marks and Spencer in Commercial Road, Portsmouth. I haven`t worn a bra for 10y since I had the op, but now that I have lost some weight I contacted the breast care nurse at the local hospital, and she said I needed to buy a well fitting mastectomy bra from m+s, and suggested making an appointment. So while I was visiting my 89y old mother who has her own health problems I got the number and phoned up to try and speak to someone about arranging said appt. All I could get was an answerphone which told me I was being transferred to an operator, and then transferred me to voicemail instead. to be continued, have to go and feed dog.

After 15` of this I decided to try a different approach and got the number for head office somewhere up north. They ask you to score the service you get on a scale of 1-5 and ring you back after the call. You`d think that would keep them on their toes but apparently not. The first operator I called started to argue with me about the advice I had been give by the nurse, and told me I had to buy the bra after I had been fitted for the `fillet`. I explained as politely as I could, and I am a trained CAB adviser so I am used to dealing with people over the phone, that I would rather go with the specialist advice I had been given, and my problems getting through to my local M+S. I asked her put me through to a number at the store, a direct line, but NOT THE ONE I HAD ALREADY CALLED! You`ve guesses, right back to voicemail. So I scored her bottom marks on all of her criteria and had another go.
This time I told the different woman about my problem, informed her that previous callcentre woman had got bottom marks, and asked to be transferred to PERSON at local M+S. She said she would then after about 10s cut me off.She also got bottom marks. When I selected this option a 3rd time the call was disconnected immediately. So I redialed the head office number and selected wanting to make a sale option and it got answered immediately. I was very angry and upset by then, and the lady, called Annabelle, was horrified and extremely helpful. She said she`d get it sorted and call back within the hour. TBC Cup of tea called for!

Annabelle also couldn`t get through to the Portsmouth store, so she arranged for my bra to be fitted at southampton and to get VIP treatment. Felt much worse than usual so I will need a taxi there and back ( cost £30 each way) and I will need a wheelchair and assistance. I couldn`t use my own car today as my eyesight had gone this am and don`t feel safe to drive. I`ve kept all the receipts and will ask for that as well. Will keep you updated on progress. I`d score Annabelle 25/25 for effort, see how well they do in Hedge-end!

I have been trying not to do too much so just took some gifts back to John Lewis, and collected something I had ordered yesterday. Then went and talked to 2 mates and had lunch with 2nd at Japanese restaurant. Miso soup, salmon and tuna sushimi, and duck dumplings + small bottle sake. Now trying to teach myself how to sing the South African national anthem, followed by the Zambian national anthem. That should keep me occupied in a nice way. I have heard that Nelson Mandela has lost the ability to speak, and I grew up in Zambia so I`d like to be able to perform it a Xmas party I will be going to on 13/12/13!
I am going to cheat and use the Soweto gospel choir as backing to 1st anthem, then sing last verse unaccompanied. A bit of a challenge as its 2 anthems in 5 languages, 4 of which are foreign to, and I haven`t started yet.I have been learning to play the ukelele but have had to put it on hold as fingers can`t take the strain anymore!

Hi everyone, has been a bad headache week, so haven't been round much. I may not be here as regularly as I would like, darned cognitive difficulties.

Chingola, so glad you found a helpful saleslady. look forward to hearing about your VIP treatment. wow, I'll have to say I'm really impressed with the task you have set for yourself. so glad you can sing, I've lost that ability along with many others thanks to this illness. one of the many things I miss.

what kind of visual problems are you having? I have intermittent blurry vision, usually worse in the evenings. just wondering if you have been evaluated for M.S.? good luck with your musical adventure.

CandiceMarie, I'm SO sorry that you are having a bad time, and can't make the meet up. I know you were so looking forward to it. sounds like you deserve a good grumble. Hope you are feeling better soon.

good fasting all. Phyllis

Yes I really know that feeling. Having to use taxis at the moment as eyes aren`t up to driving and I have lost my confidence. So got a taxi with a very nice taxi driver from Liverpool, who waited while I was served. Had phoned ahead and told them that I was on my way and would need a chair and a wheelchair. That wasn`t waiting as I would have expected from 5* service, and head of lingerie was a bit snotty when I sat down on the floor outside the restaurant and started singing the Zambian national anthem in a loud voice, but it speeded up their service. But once they had managed to borrow a wheelchair from Sainsbury`s things went smoothly. Just have to remember to go get a receipt for the taxi to the hospital to see the breast nurse for the titfillet, then I can claim for my expenses. Asked for that process to be emailed to me in writing, but if it hasn`t arrived by tomorrow I will phone Annabelle and report back. Got 2 free bras. And all on a fast day!
