Being new here myself, I got
-)the answers to my questions here by reading the posts posts
-)motivation to start: knowing that people could last for months and getting results
-) and off cause my daily pull through on fast days.

Thank you for everyone that is posting!
I vaguely heard about 5:2 and fasting, and did a quick google, opened a whole heap of tabs and browsed through them, found this forum and had all the info I needed right here. I started my fast the next day - just jumped straight in. Very few Australians were doing it at the time, so it was great to have a friendly, informative place to hang out while I got the hang of fasting. So I'm very grateful to Moogie for starting the forum, and for all the other forum users posting both great replies, and also great questions.

Good luck to an official forum. It'll have a very different feel to here, so very unlikely it'll fill the same need as this forum. I'm sure there are enough people starting on 5:2 and all the variations to fill quite a few forums ;)
It is sad that Dr. M and Mimi decided to compete with this site. It makes me think less of them, though obviously it is their right to do it. If they run it like their current site, however, I don't think this forum has anything to worry about!

Most super-successful diets have them, like Atkins and Weight Watchers to name just two. And I really like the official Fastdiet website, although it's slow moving. A lot of tremendous information from Michael and Mimi. I think there's room enough for everyone, and I hope nobody takes offense to this post.

Seeing their current website, unless they change A LOT, it will be one boring forum.
I was lucky to find this forum 2 or 3 days after I started 5:2. I had no idea who Dr M was, hadn't seen the documentary nor I had read the book. On my first day, I asked a question on the official website. Got a reply. It wasn't a comprehensive one so I asked a follow up question. Got no reply at all...
What did I do? I voted with my feet and researched for something better. Thank God I found it here!!!
Don't know whether to say good morning folks or VIVA La Rovolution!! Where is Che?...I mean TML.! Read your earlier post about the e-mail from Dr.M. Sounds as though a few feathers have been ruffled. I am still hoping for a joining of forces and am hoping the good doctor has had his curiousity piqued (or conscience) and will have a rethink.
TML, not only are you a naughty lass but you are now leading others astray, tsk, ts, Behave yourselves girls,

P.S. TML don't ever grow up we love you just the way you are
I'm with this forum all the way. I had no Internet for a couple of weeks and I really missed all the chat and support that this forum provides. It keeps me going on my fast days and I love seeing how well everybody is doing. I'm sure there are a lot of people who don't post on any other forums. Keep going team Moogie and all the other Mods.
Definitely team Moogie for me - I have learnt such a lot from the nerdy stuff and have truly laughed out loud on occasions. I started looking at Dr M's site but got frustrated that all links seemed to lead to nothing very interesting and the front page doesn't change. I am a slowish loser and without the support of this forum I think I would have filed this WoE in the dusty 'this diet doesn't work ' box long ago. Thanks folks.
Good on you TML for challenging the official site, love it. Agree tho that we dont want to make life difficult for Moogie and the other mods who have done such a great job building this supportive community we all value. I also think we that although motivation is good in that we want to support Moogie and this site, we run the risk of becoming the sort of place we dont want to be. Lets keep the high ground, we know we are the best! :victory:
I bought the book and found the official link and thought the site was O.K. As I've never joined a forum before I had no idea what was O.K. and what was fantastic. At that time there was a link to this site so I duly followed it and have never gone back as I found the difference between O.K. and fantastic, and it is HERE!

I agree that there is room for all sorts of sites and once the dust has settled everyone will stick with the one they like best. I already know that I will never leave this one due to the friendly, almost family like, feel to it. This place is now, almost, as familiar to me as my own kitchen, where I post from and I have no intention of getting used to a new and/or hostile environment. Why would I leave all my friends and family????

Moogie has created something unique here and no matter how hard anyone else tries they will never replicate it and I agree with others that it is a shame that she was not invited to run their official site via/alongside this one. I admire Moogie's generous attitude to Dr MM and it is this lovely attitude that is behind the great ambiance here.

Team Moogie all the way for me :like:

This forum is excellent, but I don't really need to tell you all that, but it's good to find an independent site with like minded people with the same aim :like:

Having run a couple of rather successful angling websites we want to remain a 'troll free' and spam free zone, sometimes applying an early boot to the rear and sending a troll off into the ether is the best thing to do :like: (it can be a right pain when you spend an hour or more a day sorting out 'offal' )
Old Nog - mind if I ask which angling sites you run/ran? Hubby and I are keen anglers :)

I've run other forums too, and when they get busy it can be a nightmare dealing with conflicts, trolls & spammers. I'm so grateful this place is doing so well. I think a lot of it is owed to the fact that we don't 'advertise' as such - so the people who find this place do so organically, because they're looking for it and are interested in the area.
It is a shame that there needs to be an 'us and them' when we ultimately are trying to achieve the same goals. Different strokes for different folks I say. No doubt there will be some that prefer an 'official site' but we all know where we want to be. Keep the faith Moogie.
I'm another who loves this forum and I find a lot of support here. Moogie you have done a fantastic job with it.
I have a busy FB page for my own business and that is job enough so I do admire the way you run this.
I don't think another such place will be as good as this!
I don't visit the forum for half a day and a war breaks out! I have just read all the posts on this topic and it is great to see how strongly we feel about our 'home' and 'family' and how protective we are of it.

However, I agree with some of the posts about moderation and existing side by side with other forums. I never visit the 'official' site now, because I find everything I need here, but that is not to say that I believe that we should be decrying their attempts to set up a forum of their own.

I am a strong believer in the saying "Cream floats to the top". We know that we have the best forum and it will find its own level, whatever the competition. So, let's be supportive of our own forum, Moggie's work and all the moderators but let the rest do their own thing and find their own level too, without the need for us to stir up any potential difficulty for Moogie and our forum.
