Not losing weight?

Help us to help you! Please give us as much information as you can about your situation in order for us to be able to help you as best we can. For example, it's helpful to know your BMI/weight, how much you want to lose, any medical conditions which might affect your weight and (if you've started fasting already) how you do your fasts in terms of splitting up your calories, what you eat etc. Thanks!

Anyone PUT ON weight?
01 Feb 2013, 09:06
Have I broken some sort of record?

Week three weigh in and have put on 1.5 pounds! :o

To recap, I lost 4 pounds in week one and half a pound in week two. So still 3 pounds down overall and feeling a bit slimmer.

I think I put on 2 pounds over last weekend (I didn't do anything outrageous!) and most of it has stayed with me all week.

Fasted Monday (fine) and yesterday (not so good but not terrible).

I'm assuming this is a temporary blip and I'm sticking with this way of eating as I'm enjoying it. :)

I thought I'd better report it in case anyone else has put weight on and is feeling fed up! I'm a bit disappointed but not hugely. I'm in this for the long term.

Onwards!

It sounds like you are weighing yourself too much. I would hide the scales and only do it once a week or once a fortnight if you can. The body naturally fluctuates weight wise what with hormone changes etc. Weight isn't always the best indication of getting slimmer either, measure your waist once a week and if that is getting bigger worry then. Don't worry about the numbers, I used to be obsessed with my weight, despite never being over weight and I stopped weighing myself completely and it was like a weight (LOL) was lifted. I just made sure my jeans still fit and then I know I'm fine. :)

Dr M tweeted a week or so ago that first you lose fat and water, then you regain water, then you lose more fat. This week you probably gained the water!

Check your waist measurement, it's a much better guide than the scales...

Thanks guys. I do weigh too much though today was my official weekly weigh in for stats!

Interesting about the water, Caroline. That's what it must be. My husband who has been much stricter than me was fed up to lose half a pound since last Friday and reported weighing less on Tuesday after the Monday fast. He's a bit puzzled.

I won't let the scales put me off (though it is a bit annoying, I admit!)

Hoping to post something better in the coming weeks! :)

Yes I had a gain last week (wk2) when gained 3 of the 4lbs I had lost in week 1. :-( However, I had only fasted one day that week and ate and drank much more than usual the rest of the week due to more socialising so I was not particularly surprised.

Obviously this is not what has happened to you. Perhaps your body is adjusting to the changes you are imposing. As you say, you are 3-lbs down so try not to worry too much. Glad to hear you are not giving up yet and still in for the long haul! :D

I started 5:2 on Monday 21st January. By Friday that week (following my second fast), I had lost 5 lbs. By the day after the third fast day, I had regained 3 lbs. Today, a week and a half after starting the diet, following the fourth fast overall, I am back down to the weight I was a week ago, with a net 5 lb loss since starting.

It's a bit like a yo-yo! But as long as the general trend is downward, I don't suppose I can complain too much since I get to eat as I wish most of the time.

I'm only going to weigh myself on Fridays from now on. Anything in between seems far too variable to be worthwhile measuring.

Just realising I have been really sedentary this week. Partly because I have been working from home on my computer and partly because the weather has been so awful (driving rain) that I have hardly been outside.

I'm sure that didn't help. I usually try to walk as much as I can.

So my weight gain might be slightly due to massive inactivity!

I seem to have gained a little girth over the past week. Haven't exercised, though, so I'm going to start doing that.

Yes Perse, we have to move too!

Hard in sleet etc. Will have to find new, indoor ways to exercise during the winter.

I did last week - but normally I do three exercise classes in a week plus cycle everywhere. Last week, because of the bad pavements round here I stayed in all week. Hence the weight gain. One and a half pounds. Not worried as I know the reason why and still think I made the right decision to stay home - I could have slipped and broken my ankle and that would have meant no cycling and no exercise of any sort for months! We need to be kind to ourselves.

That's interesting, Jem. You put on the same amount as me through not exercising.

I have been sitting all week working. And due to not sleeping well, I was pretty slumped most of the time. :( And the sleet just looked so awful, I couldn't face walking around in it!

I need to jump around more! :D

I love my exercise bike. I generally put a video on to watch before using it. The same area of muscle weighs more than fat does, so if you're exercising, that might account for some of the weight gain.

I seem to recall reading somewhere that simply going up and down a flight of stairs repeatedly is a reasonable exercise.

No chance, Perse, didn't move a muscle (which might be part of the problem!) but thanks anyway :D

Well, having gained 1 lb last week, this week I have lost 3 lb. The only difference between the two weeks has been that I ate less on my feed days last week than this week. Of course this could be coincidence but it might suggest that calorie restricting below your daily energy requirements is counter productive. Going to feast today now!

Repeated stairs is a brilliant exercise, give it a go, it's harder than it sounds, the first time I did it I could hardly move the day after :? And I consider myself quite fit with walking daily...
