Hey @cblasz
Good luck with C25K :) Do you have a 5k run you can join at the end of the program?
Not to put you down in any way, but running in itself never gave me any significant weight loss (on the contrary: I ate a lot more and gained a bit) but it might be different on 5:2, probably is.
From http://www.examiner.com/article/why-runners-gain-weight
For every gram of glycogen stored, the body also stores 3-4 grams of water with it (Lyle McDonald of Body Recomposition). Runners store more water than less active people, so they may weigh more even while carrying less fat.

But, trousers never lie!
Take care if it's icy!
Thanks. I don't get in a whole lot of exercise, so I think that getting the exercise will help. I don't expect to lose a lot from it, but maybe just help me lose 1 lb. a week. I plan to keep fasting of course and counting calories on the other days!

I have a run that I'm going to do at the Bronx Zoo (big zoo in NY.) I have done it the past 3 years, but have never run the whole thing. This year I hope to do that!

And of course I'm not just doing it to lose weight but for the health benefits as well!

Thanks for the info!
Hello from Boston. Wicked winter this year, huh? The folks who fast for 24 hours seem to have the most success. Maybe because they are depleting all available energy and the body has to tap into the fat stores for additional energy. I was just thinking if you look at your 24hrs not dinner to dinner but lunch to lunch you might have better luck. In other words breakfast and lunch no dinner.
Hi Claire,

Nice to see another New Englander on here!! Yes, I've had enough of this cold. I did get to go skiing and that was nice, but now enough is enough!!

Thanks for the advice. I'm actually feeling better about my weight loss lately. It's still slow, but it seems to be steadier. And if it takes a while, I guess that's ok. It didn't get here overnight! In the grand scheme of things, so what if it takes a year and a half to lose it. I'm pretty happy with breakfast and dinner on my fast days. It seems to be working out well. I do think counting calories on my non-fast days is helping too!
Well, last week had it's ups and downs. I did really good at sticking to my calories on fast days, but not as good on feed days. It was TOM and I had just gotten my girl scout cookies! So, I ended up going over my TDEE on Weds. and on Friday I didn't even count the calories! However, I ended up not going out to eat at all on the weekend, so while I still splurged a little (and didn't count) calories, I doubt I ate the 2000 calories that I normally might on a weekend day.

I also finally started my C25K training! I have not it before but never finished. This year I plan to finish the training and plan to run a 5K on April 26th. The weather has been very uncooperative and continues to do so, but I'm going to work it out. On Sun. when I went to my normal trail, it was still covered in snow and ice, so I drove further to a paved trail that was clear. I did Week 1 Day 1 and the 1 minute running intervals were no problem at all. I'm bringing my clothes with me to work so I can go again tonight.

Anyway, despite the ups and downs of the week, I guess the "ups" (or "downs" maybe!) paid off, because when I weighed myself yesterday I was down 1.1 lbs! I think my body is finally starting to react to this WOE. I also think counting calories during the week has helped too!
Well done on the loss cblasz :like: :victory:

Good luck with your training :clover: - wish I could run properly as when I run I just look like a duck waddling!
Well, this week I'm only down 2/10ths of a pound. I ate below my TDEE on my feed days and started the C25K this week. So, perhaps that slowed down my weight loss a little. Although, sometimes I think it takes a week for our bodies to catch up with us, so maybe it's due to the extra cookies I ate LAST week!

I don't know, but I will just keep plugging away! At least it's moving in the right direction.

In good news, I finished week 1 of C25K, pretty easily (I've done it before but never gotten to the end) and looking forward to starting week 2 tomorrow!
8 weeks to go to the 5 K! Keep going :)
A coworker today told me that I look like I'm losing weight! She doesn't know I'm doing this. I was so thrilled, it made my day! I haven't lost a whole lot yet, but maybe between the few pounds that I have lost and the C25K training, it's showing a bit! :victory:
couch to 5k is fantastic I did it last year and the first time you run 5k gives you a real buzz unfortunately I fell down stairs on the ice last November and hadn't ran since. I took the bull by the horns this week and have just finished week 1 again I KNOW IT WORKS. I will keep popping in to see how you are doing. By the way I am 67 so if I can do it most people can do it. Good luck :clover:
Thank you! @Nessie That is impressive!

I have started the program a couple of times, but one time a medical issue stopped me and another life just got in the way. But, this time I'm determined to do it!
Me too. I must find a race to book into to keep me motivated.
I have one on April 26th. It's at the Bronx Zoo (big zoo in NYC) and to raise money for elephants. I've done it the last 3 years and have had to walk part of it. This year I plan to run the whole thing!

Off I go to do Week 2 Day 2!
I've been thinking about changing my WI day to Saturday (from Monday) It's not right after a fast day, but also not after the weekend when I might be up due to the types of food I've eaten. This morning I got on the scale and was down a little over 2 lbs! So, I figured this is a good week to switch and record my new weight. I'm SO close to being under 170!

This WOE is so funny. It's hard to tell which weeks I will lose and which ones I won't. I think though that the best thing for me to do is just keep up with my fast days, stay as close to 1500 on my feed days (not more or less) during the week and not go too crazy on the weekend. And I will keep up with my C25K!

I wish I could just kinda go with it and not THINK about it so much! Maybe that will come with time.

Anyway, I still have 5 lbs. to go for my Easter goal with 4 weeks to do it (and my birthday falling in there) but I think it is still possible!
