I thought I would start one of these threads to document my progress. A little easier than doing a blog! I'll start with my Introduction post that I posted in Nov.

Good morning! I started the fast diet a couple of months ago, but ran into some health issues that caused me to stop for a bit. But, that's all better now and I've started again! I am 43 and need to lose about 40 pounds. I have been an online member of Weight Watchers for about 12 years. The first time I did it, it was awesome for me and I lost 47 lbs. But, since then I've slowly gained that weight back. I've been off and on the program many times, but just can't seem to stick with it.
So, I decided to try the fast diet. I've always said it would be easier if you could just give up food altogether. Obviously, you can't, but I feel the fast diet is a nice compromise to that. I like the idea of not having to track calories on the other days, although I think for me to really lose weight I might have to, at least during the week.
Anyway, I fast on Mon/Thurs. unless there's some conflict on one of those days, in which case I will switch it to Tues. or Weds. I eat a 150-200 calorie breakfast and I do fine with fasting during the day. Then I make myself a really healthy dinner (this plan has also encouraged me to do that) but often after dinner, I feel like I'm still hungry. One day last week I made tea and went to bed early and that worked, but the 2nd day I ended up snacking a little. Hopefully I will get better with that with time.
Sorry for such a long intro. I'm excited to go full fledged with this plan and losing 1 pound a week is great, since I'm able to not worry about what I eat so much during my busy weeks!

A little more about me. I live in Connecticut in the U.S. I teach Computers grades K-8 during the week and I teach a Computer Class at the Community College on Saturdays. I used to be a software developer. I am single and have no kids, which isn't what I planned, but I try to accept and enjoy my life as it is. I am blessed to have nieces and nephews that I get to spend time with!

Since my first post, I had lost a few pounds on the diet, but then the holidays hit. I got back on the horse in January but it was a rocky start. I went up a couple pounds. But, I'm so happy to say that today I lost 2.3 lbs! Hopefully that trend will continue.

I don't count calories during the week, but I think that I am eating no more than 1500 during the week. On the weekends I kinda eat what I want, although, if I know I'm having a big dinner, I'll skip lunch or just have a small snack. I am also trying to get a good walk in at least once a week. I will gradually try to increase that.

Today I have the day off from work and I'm fasting. I'm a little nervous about that, since work keeps me busy. But, I have plenty to do today, so I hope I'll be fine. I figure I have to learn how to do this even on non-work days. I'm also going to go for my walk today, which I haven't done on a fast day before. We'll see how it all goes!

So far, I really like this WOE and think it is something I can do for a long time! I'm looking forward to sharing this journey with all of you!

I think you've made a great start @cblasz, my very best wishes to you and good luck. This way of eating has been really successful for me and I hope it will be for you too.
Just remember that 1lb of fat roughly equates to the energy in a stick of dynamite!

Well, this week I was up 2/10ths of a pound. I thought I did really well too. On Monday I was off from work and was afraid that fasting would be hard, but it really wasn't AND I even walked 3 miles! Then I fasted again on Thurs. although I did go over the 500 by a bit. I didn't go too crazy on my feast days. I had lunch out on Saturday and splurged a little there, but then didn't really eat dinner (just had a small snack) because I wasn't hungry. Sunday, I felt like I splurged, but when I calculated the calories it was only around 1600!

But, from reading everyone's posts I know this can take time and I just need to stick with it. I do wonder if it's possible to not eat enough on feast days? I don't count, but I've tracked a few times just to get an idea and I eat around 1500 calories a day during the week. I generally splurge by going out on the weekend. My TDEE is around 2000 if I put lightly active and a little over 1700 if I put sedentary. Should I be trying for that or is it ok to eat less? Maybe I should try to get more fat in, like swap my light yogurt for regular?

I always try to stick to my TDEE except..... one day a week I feast, which means a little of what I fancy and haven't allowed myself the rest of the week (e.g. a biscuit, or chocolate, crisps, wine etc not binging just enjoying!) and that seems to work for me (I am fasting three days a week). I also cut down on refined carbs and have included fats in my diet....including cream in my coffee on non-fast days! You have to be brave to add in fats like that when everything you've been told up to now is to avoid them. They are delicious!

Well, this week went pretty well. I actually tried to eat a little bit more on my feast days. Yesterday the scale showed me down about 2 lbs. Today though for my official WI, I was only down 1. But, I think that's due to the Superbowl food I ate last night and the fact that I ate much later than I normally do. I'm still happy to be going in the right direction, especially after being able to eat whatever I wanted at the party and not having to track it or anything!

I'm not sure if I'm going to be able to get fast days in this week though. I am off work today for a snow day and I woke up just knowing I wouldn't be able to fast today, being home all day (even though I did do it once before!) I would do it tomorrow, but I'm scheduled to donate blood. I thought about cancelling, but felt guilty doing that, especially since they keep sending messages about how critically blood is needed right now. On Weds. I work a long day, so it's hard for me to do it that day. I will fast on Thurs. and so that only leaves Friday. I'm not sure I could do 2 days in a row. I guess I could try. I'm not sure what to do.

Rather than two days in a row why not go for a 1000 calorie day instead on one of those days?

That's a great idea, Auriga! I think I will shoot for that on Friday. And maybe try to get an extra walk in this weekend!

Well, this week was a little crazy because we had 2 snow days and some delays. I ended up fasting 2 days in a row, although it was modified a bit on Friday. I probably had about 800 calories. I have to say I don't think the 2 day in a row fast was good for me. I really didn't feel great on the 2nd day. I will try to avoid it in the future. I didn't go overboard on feast days, but it wasn't my normal routine, so probably ate a little more than usual. (or more unhealthy food!)

I am down 1/2 pound today. I was hoping for a pound. But, I'll take what I can get!

Oh believe me, CB, I'd take half a pound any day!

You sound like a real kindred spirit CB and I think you're doing really well with your new way of eating. One thing I find easier is waiting until early evening before I eat anything. That way, I don't feel hungry and end up going over my limit.

Good luck with it all

Bean

Thanks Bean! I have thought about waiting until evening, but as a teacher, I just feel I need the energy in the morning. I don't eat anything after breakfast though until dinner. I might try it someday! I purposely went over on Friday, since it was 2 days in a row. This week will hopefully be better, although, we already have a 2 hour delay today! :) But, I've had my breakfast and have my dinner planned.

Things have been a little out of sorts here as we've had a lot of snow and therefore snow days. We were off Thursday for snow and then we were on vacation Friday, Monday and Tuesday.

Last week I fasted Monday and Wednesday (since I knew we were probably going to be off on Thurs.) Overall, I did well, but went over my calories a bit at night. Then I went skiing this weekend and it was somewhat difficult and my legs are still sore today.

I weighed myself last Friday morning and was down to 174.5. My normal WI day is Monday, but since I was not home I wasn't able to weigh myself. So, I weighed myself this morning and I am back up to almost 177! I am just going to ignore that though. I didn't eat THAT much and I should've burned a ton of calories skiing. So, I'm just going to keep going and see what happens next Monday! I'm sure it will adjust itself.

Today, since I'm not working I decided to try skipping breakfast so I would have more calories at night. I am feeling hungry, but am ok for now. I have a lot to do to keep busy.

I did notice that sometimes on feast days I am just not as hungry as one would thing. Last week, I had to stay late for a work thing. I was all excited to treat myself to pad thai for dinner (and I'd even counted the calories and would still be under my TDEE), but when I went to order it, I just wasn't hungry enough for it! I had a small snack instead and something else when I got home. And I haven't had room for dessert on 2 occasions now!

So, overall, things are going slowly, but I feel like I am headed in the right direction and am doing ok with this WOE.

As soon as some of this snow and ice clears up, I hope to start training for the 5K I'm doing at the end of April. Perhaps that will help with the scale a little.

Well, I continue to plug along with this WOE. I didn't WI last Monday (because I was away) so I did today. I am down 1 lb. since my WI 2 weeks ago, but the same weight I was on Fri. Feb. 14th. Since Dec. 30th, I'm down a grand total of 3 lbs.

I'm glad I'm going in the right direction, but this is painfully slow. I don't think I am eating too much. If anything, maybe not enough, but I find that hard to believe. I tracked calories this week and I pretty much eat 1500 during the week and around 2000 on the weekends. I did struggle a bit with sticking to 500 calories on fast days, but I think now that I've added Shirataki Noodles to my recipes on those days, that will be much easier.

I do think that maybe I don't drink enough on weekends (by that I mean non-alcoholic beverages!) And since I weigh myself on Monday that could be having a bit of an effect.

Well, as Dory says "Just keep swimming!"
I'm down .7 lbs today. I was down 1.5 on Friday!! But, of course that was right after a fast day. I think I'm going to move my weigh in day until Saturday though. That way I see the results of my work and they aren't tainted by too much sodium or not enough water on the weekends! And I still think that seeing a good number, will keep me motivated not to go too crazy on the weekend!

I've been counting calories during the week. I aim for 1500 (about 200 under my TDEE) so that I can splurge to up to 2000 on Sat/Sun. I don't mind the counting, using MyFitnessPal and it just helps me make sure I'm not going overboard. I still don't feel deprived at all on those days. 1500 is a great number of calories and 2000 feels like a lot to me!

I hope to start my C25K training this week. It is still really cold here. 20 degrees(F) today. But, it's supposed to warm up a bit. I'll be interested to see how that affects my weight loss.

I really am getting used to this WOE and I'm starting to head in the right direction!
