Re: 6:1 not working:(

Hi Rufus
I was the same as you, very little weight to lose to get to a target weight of BMI 19 from around 21 at the start. I lost the weight pretty quickly - but in hindsight maybe too quickly, and that is why I'm having more of a problem maintaining.

It takes a long time to figure out what and how you need to eat to maintain the weight. I have a friend who is 5'5" and 108-110 pounds. Her BMI is 18.3, but she looks great, not too thin at all. However, she weighs herself every day. She also weighs her food to make sure she is not overeating. If her weight goes up, she cuts back the next day or won't eat until after 12 p.m. My point is that she is really diligent at watching her weight. Gaining weight is not worth it, because for most of us, it is really hard to lose. I'm having a heck of a time losing. Today my weight was up again, but I can only imagine this is due to constipation. Today is my first fast day of the week, and I took to psyllium capsules last night and drank a ton of water. I'm going to weigh ever day and see what happens. So frustrating.

Hi Franglaise, interesting to see how this maintenance bit is going for you.
I'm not quite there yet I don't think - am now 10 stone 1ish and was vaguely thinking I'd like to get down to 10 stone, or maybe even see what 9.5 stone looked like on me. I'm still mostly doing 5:2, or chucking an extra day over the weekend if I feel like it (I did on Saturday) but weight seems to be up a bit and down a bit, but mostly still verrrrrry gradually downwards.
I think the thing that's stalling mine, is exercise (cycling a lot more and running is increasing) so I'm trying not to worry too much about my actual weight. I think I'm going to try and focus more on the body fat percentage (currently just under 25%)

I do wonder how easy it will be to stop my weight from yo-yoing too much when I'm at target though (whatever that ends up being)....

Hi shrinkingrose,
I *think* I'm due a period soon (my periods have been irregular since doing 5:2) so that might be the reason. I've been running more now that the weather is better (March wasn't great!) and yes, maybe muscle is why I've put on a bit, like you. I managed to stay around the same weight (62kgs) having lost 8 kgs a few years ago, so it shouldn't be too hard to keep the additional 6kgs off...in theory!
I'm interested to know if you go for losing the additional half a stone or not, keep us posted!

Franglaise, forgive me for asking but I can't remember, did we ask you at one point about your thyroid? Some 2 or 3 weeks ago? Or was it someone else from France?

Franglaise, congratulations at being at your target weight. Well done!

It seems to me that if you are strength training without the inches changing, you may well be just getting more dense since muscle weighs more than fat. This would seem to bode well for longterm weight maintenance!

I hope to have your problem one of these days (probably weeks or months)!

It was someone else TML13 - I've never had a thyroid problem.
@bordergirl, good luck with your weight loss! I was quite enjoying being on 6;1 as I like the discipline of fasting on a Monday, but I might have to have a re-think. I never enjoyed the Thursday fasts so much, but the discipline was good!

Ah, OK!.
It's still worth checking why your periods aren't regular. It might be 5:2 but it might be a coincidence and there's something else going on.

It sometimes happens when I eat less, but I'm sure I'm OK healthwise, except for the minor constipation problems which have been mentioned elsewhere on this forum! I just hope I'm not pregnant

Minor? Don't even mention it! Mine are more major than John Major, LOL!

(Is there a chance that you are?)

More likely your low BMI/body fat is my guess, though from your charts your fat % looks not too bad.

Have your measurements increased?

I like this idea! :like:

After a fast day yesterday and a weigh in this morning, I'm only 0,5kg over the last time I weighed and recorded on this forum (which was also after a fast day). So maybe I was worried too quickly.
I was doing a sort of fast on Thursdays too, not just 6:1 (I didn't eat until the evening but didn't restrict my food to 500 cals) so thought I would be OK with this. I'll do another proper fast Thursday and see what the scales say on Monday. Measurements haven't changed and body fat is anywhere from 22.5% to 23.5% according to my scales, so not too low.

After my fast yesterday and 16 miles cycling and an hour long dog walk on an empty tummy, this morning I weighed in at pretty much the same as last week (0.2lb more) but body fat was down to 24% (lowest ever for me and now just reached 'fitness' range which I've read is 21-24% apparently) and amazingly enough my visceral fat has also dropped for the first time since starting this WOE. I started at 4% which was pretty good anyway I think, but it was registering as 3% this morning. So am pretty chuffed with that :)
I'm really starting to notice a gradual difference with my body now - horrid wobbly cellulitey thighs are getting a bit smoother in appearance and a bit firmer...
