Butter all the way :-) Margarine is full of water and chemicals.
I cant think of any more simple pleasures than salted butter spread across a crusty hearty slice of bread!
TML, you should try Bacon, Brie and Cranberry sauce on a nice warm crusty baguette, not forgetting the butter. A burger bar in the town where we do some of our shopping has it as a regular 'meal'.

A blue brie works even better.
Ooooooooooooooooh sounds delish! I like fried brie with cranberry sauce on smoked ham.
I will try it. Although, I must be honest, I rarely like butter in my sandwiches. Same with mayo.
I have been pondering. With any and every other 'diet' I have been on, having this kind of discussion based around 'proper' food, that doesn't degenerate into a 'I miss bacon, I will try and substitute ..... for it' is a relief.

Can you imagine talking about a bacon and brie sandwich anywhere else and not having someone saying you can save X amount of calories by swapping out the bread for a Ryvita, the bacon for low fat smoked turkey slices, leave out the butter and substitute the brie with cottage cheese. *shudder*.

This is sooooo much better, even though I am still technically on my fast day and am fantasising about all the foods we have been talking about. I think if I ate all we have discussed, it would come to 6,000kcals, easily.
Made a Chocolate Cake tonight with Broiled Coconut Topping...oh yeah, 2 whole sticks of lucious butter mixed with brown sugar and coconut, spread on cake and broiled until brown. Yummy!

...maybe Dr S's middle name is 'stilton' - haha!!
Fresh NZ butter Mainland, I buy the one wrapped in tin foil as I think it keeps fresher, salted, spread on toasted vogels bread, with marmite if I feel the urge YYUUUUMMMMM. Also love toasted crumpets with golden syrup, and of course I dont leave the melted butter on the plate, how wasteful.
There is a boutique producer here making butter callednLewis Rd, also delish butb twice the price so just buy as a treat, or for dinner parties

NZ butter (and meat)is grass fed, and by law not allowed any additives but salt if you want to call it butter
12 pages about butter... this is nuts !

the only time I cook with butter is when I make pancakes, it gives them a nutty flavour and they are golden brown like I love

Or French bread
Or cinnamon toasts
Ok now I am hungry and it's a fast day....
This one's for TML, she'll know what I mean....we are all 'Butter Nutters'!

Ballerina x

If somebody suggested that to me, I would probably slap them. And I'm not a violent person at all, honestly!!!
Silverdarling, Dr Sexy Stilton Swoon?

Ballerina, wink-wink nudge-nudge, LOL!
I just had a flash back to my childhood. My favourite breaky was lightly toasted bread (the Greek country one, not sliced bread) with butter and honey.
It was my dad's speciality and he always made it for me in the summer, when we were the two of us in our country home. Whenever my mum offered to make it for me I used to say "Nooooooooooooo you don't know how to do it" and it always puzzled her since -according to her- "it was just some bread".
Alas, it wasn't just some bread. My dad's slices were like they were cut with a precise machine. Not too thin, not too thick. The butter was an even layer and the honey was added while the bread was still hot but not on the crust so that it won't lose its crispiness. The bread would absorb both butter and honey and turn into some sort of cake.
Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm not a good thing to remember on an attack day, LOL!
So all these thoughts about butter I went shopping today and came home with double cream, there was a shriek from the kitchen and I investigated and it my DH loading up the double cream saying 'WHAT IS THIS FOR?' ... Have to say he is particular about maintaining his cholesterol levels in a healthy range and doesn't get 5:2...ADF ...16:8 ... You get my drift

I replied 'oh that is for making butter!' Strange look, enough said
My mum is going to the big food market tomorrow and she asked me what I wanted and I casually said "oh, can you get me whatever butter you find"? I think she thinks I'm mad.
