:victory: Update from #3. I know it's not the official weigh in/reporting day but after I had a really good fast yesterday, inspired by being part of a challenge again, I can report I've lost 0.6kg from my starting weight so only 1.4kg to go. Just had to share this as the trend wasn't good lately.

Yes, and it seems that nearly all of them have "fast on" from this life.

congratulations! good job @Wmr309
always good to share. OH is doing the 40 hour liquid fasting challenge with me and it was cute watching him get out the scales and weigh... another 400g down he exclaims!
I have 3 hours to go for my 40 hour fast.. nearly went to break it early but said.. nup.. gotta do this.
Wow, @Juliana.Rivers, 40 hours nothing but liquids! I love tea, black coffee, stock, etc but at some stage I do want something to chew on. I suppose we all find something that works for us, which is the good thing about this WoE.

Thanks again for setting up the challenge. Nine members though, that's a very small group. I didn't participate for a couple of years because I was maintaining successfully so perhaps that's one reason there are so few of us.
Hi I would love to join the Christmas Challenge. My goal is to be down 10 lbs. I have just started 5:2 again and looking forward to it :victory:
Thank you for adding me @Juliana.Rivers. I'll update weight on Friday. Great to read about people's successes so far. Hopefully down hill all the way to Christmas!
As I am on the laptop and can actually post (still can't on my Kindle, grrrr!) I am just popping in to wish everyone good luck on their Christmas Challenge, however they are doing it

You could have knocked me down with a feather @juliana.riverswhen you posted that you had moved beyond vanilla 5:2  And @adfnfuel, I too am reading the new Fung fasting book and am heading towards longer fasts. I have taken the precaution of signing up to a low carb site with a dedicated Fung thread where it is permitted to talk of such things. Perhaps one day we will be able to on here?

Finally a special shout to @candicemarie. I have been following your progress on the bsd. So pleased for you, you have finally found your WOE.

Won't be doing the challenge as they tend to be counter-productive for me, but go guys go.
I'll post a weight update on Friday which is my preferred weigh in day (post 2 fasts, pre weekend)
Keep it up Fasters !

OK. I'm Curious. Which LC site has that discussion?

Having read it twice now from cover to cover, I've written at least three reviews for Dr Fung's excellent new book and (so far, as is typical for me) posted none. Each relates the books all inclusiveness of the many important details needed to implement each fasting method. My shortest review in a single sentence would be this: if you only buy one book, this one should be it. But that isn't very convincing.

As you've implied with your "Perhaps..." my longer reviews begin with Dr MM's experience with a three day fast as a reasonable door-opening precedent that might lead to discussions about extended fasting here. Extended fasting - fasts of 42 hours or more, according to Dr Fung - is to me, the other most important contribution of Dr Fung's book.

Most here over the last three years have moved beyond the initial tentative stages of basic 5:2 with its focus on simplicity and marketability. We've since include variations of the number of days fasting each week for those desiring a bit more. We've added timing windows (accounting for natural 24 hour cycles). By this point most have realized that hunger is at most, temporary. Most recently BSD was included (which returns to careful calorie counting). All of these are discussed in this book. The reason they work as well as they do, is clearly explained in everyday language. All of these methods incrementally ratchet the acceptability of fasting as a totally normal human activity with considerable benefits. The next logical step in the sequence is such an easy one to take when you finally understand how it all ties together.

Welcome aboard @Faith Marsh... you are member 10. It's good to come back to fasting isnt it.

Hi @barbarita.. thanks for the good wishes for all of us. Yes, I see the first 3 years of fasting is just my understanding of it all.. I have "matured" to serious lengthy and scary fasting, with the Monday 40 hour fast being the most strict. but killing it.. ocassionally on the Monday night i reach for a walnut or two or in the case of last week, some mashed chickpeas but otherwise really sticking to it. OH is excited and lost 4kg already since starting the new regime. we used to start the day asking each other "is this a light day" .. now its. "can we eat today"
Member #9 checking in with a weight of 162 lbs, a loss of 3lbs in 2 weeks. Not very impressive tbh, but at least it is going in the right direction.
Member #3: lost another 200 gram so that's 800gr in one week, with 1.2kg to go. I devoured take-away pizza and guzzled wine on Wednesday night while watching the US elections. Food and drink were my only comfort that night! Dinner, wine, ice cream and chocolate tonight but that's Friday nights for me and the reason I love 5:2.
@wmr309 - imagine how I felt here IN the U.S.! I was actually too sick to eat though!
Hi @adfnfuel,

There are several threads on this page devoted to Fung fasting, they tend on the whole to be support posts rather than discussing the science, rather in our style of Fasting Today.
