US here on the east coast. This is my second time around with 5:2 fasting. Lost weight the first time but lost motivation due to the slow lose. Then I tried the Whole 30 program ....got through the entire 30 days but realized I could never do that for life. I did lose weight about 13 lbs in 30 days, but you have to do something that is doable! So I decided to come back to 5:2 which is the only diet that is really doable for me. I just have to have a different frame of mind and have patience with the weight lose. Good luck everyone!
Welcome back, @Fluffy! I think that the key is making up your mind that this is your "Way of Life" for the rest of your life--no looking back, no conditional "if I lose x amount of pounds in y amount of time" thinking. You don't have a tracker posted so I can't see what your current ahem *condition* is...but as you probably know, the less you have to lose, the slower it's likely to be...Also if you've been "dieting" recently, likely to be slower.
In 14 months, I've lost 32 lbs, but most of that early on; have lost only a few pounds in the last several months. Yes, it's discouraging; however, I've been counting "other" blessings, primarily that I can now walk without pain--knees and foot all better!--and my blood pressure is down. Plus, I love to dance, and previously any real dancing would cripple me for weeks; now I go to a dance meetup every week, in fact, have one tonight!
Yes, I could lose more/faster by adding additional restrictions...but I've "been there, done that" and know if I go there, I'll end up throwing out the whole thing...really I see 5:2 as my last chance to be healthy and at a reasonable weight the rest of my life without massive struggles and yo-yo-ing.
You'll need to identify your other motivations (other than weight loss) so when that's not happening, you can use the other results to keep going! Just my two cents worth....

Thank you Ferretgal. I know what you're saying. I have been doing different diets for so many years now and I have never been able to stick with any of them. I realize now that I have to have patience because 5:2 is so much more doable for life than all the others. I don't lack will power...learn how much I actually have by doing the "Whole 30" program, so it's not that. I just need patience and the realization that at my age I am not going to lose the weight like I did when I was young. Facts are facts and I have to just accept them. My motivations are "health" mostly. I am 67, type 2 diabetic, with lots of osteoarthritis in hips and spine. I still have some vanity left in me so I know that I want to lose to look better...but's more to be healthier. Right now I am 5'4" and 195 lbs...I have a long way to go. ha! Thanks for your 2 cents! Much appreciated!
Welcome, Fluff... Just wanted to say "Don't get discouraged" and "stick with it". Yesterday's fast day for me was good but I didn't lose an oz. of weight. I won't let that get me down, however, because I know now that sticking with the program works. Keep posting how you are doing... lots of nice folks here.

Thank you Tammae.....Actually I did this diet or program last year and it did work. I just lost my patience with the slow weight loss but I am not going to do that this time. Yesterday was a fast day for me too but I didn't weigh myself. I try not to weigh myself too much because it messes with my head. Once a month I weigh myself and that helps keep me motivated much better. My husband weighs himself every single day and I can see that it's not good to do that. He gets frustrated too easily. Thanks for the welcome back and the support!
This is the only 'diet'' for me because I can do this as a way of life. I look forward to my fast days. I'm having trouble controlling my non-fast days. Right now I'm experimenting with 18-6 but splitting it up for my non fast days. I really feel that 5-2 is for sure a way of life for me. And I'm happy I found it and stopped the weight I was gaining before I found 5-2. Maybe I'm a slow looser? Maybe I'll loos a pound a year? I'm not sure but I wont give up.
Good Morning!
After 4 days of eating everything and anything, I am SO ready to get back on the IF train. Feeling quite bloated and disgusted with myself, but nothing to do but take a day at a time and get down to business. I'm still doing the Fast 5 eating window thing and I really do like it. I just need to have more discipline on the weekends and vacations. When I'm at home, I just seem to eat and eat! I'm a little worried about what will happen when I retire in a bit over a year. Yikes! I really have to get a handle on myself.
Hope everyone is doing well & enjoying the summer.

Hi Everyone. I fly back to California from the UK tomorrow so I can be back on this thread legitimately! I have been doing 16:8 religiously for the past month and if I'm organized, a few fast days have been thrown in too. My clothes are slightly looser than when I first landed and looking forward to getting back tomorrow where I am going to be in a routine for the next 8 weeks. So it will be easier to fast in a routine rather than trying to when living on the road.
Hey, Americans (sorry, not you, Karen) -guess what I'm doing tomorrow? Give up?
Doing jury duty! At least if they don't cut me loose when I show up at 8:30 AM with the rest of the mob they have probably called. I have been called so many times but never actually served. This is municipal court. What can a trial possibly be about? Maybe someone didn't take their trash cans in...
Well, I will report back so you aren't in suspense too long!
Conveniently, it's a fast day. I will bring a thermos of coffee and ignore whatever they offer for lunch. Assuming I'm there all day.

The jury report:
It took over two hours to choose 6 people for the jury out of the 30ish that were there. I didn't do anything but watch as about half of us went up to the jury seats to be asked a very long list of personal questions. The last question was "what is your guilty pleasure?"! That you can admit to in public, of course. I hung around for the beginning of testimony, just out of curiosity. The person on trial is a dentist in the community. His wife is an artist whose studio/second home is a huge open new building constructed to run on geothermal energy - apparently they drilled down 40 stories below the building. Anyway, they also have large parties there. with live bands, and a neighbor filed a noise complaint. Why against him and not his wife I don't know. Suffice it to say, it's not as clear cut as you might imagine, since the angry neighbor seems to be a very angry person, and another close neighbor didn't even hear any noise. So if I had been chosen, I really would not have had a preconceived notion of what the outcome should be. I'll report back if I hear whether they found him guilty.
Oh, and for fulfilling my civic duty, I was entitled to be paid $3!! I didn't remember to collect it when I left. Had I been a juror, I would have made a whopping $6.

Welcome back @Fluffy and @RawKaren!
$3 @WendyJane - wow, don't spend it all in one place!!
Well I have heard good things about whole 30 for a quick-start. I have a friend to starts it frequently - however she doesn't usually make it to day 30 because it's so difficult. I definitely see how it would be a healthier way to live. But it looks hard (and I say that as someone who cooks most of my own food anyway).
Well Karen, I hope the states aren't as hard on your waistline this time around >.<

@tracieknits. Welcome back to you too. My OH did Whole30 and he lost 10lbs during that time and eventually got to 14lb's by carrying on past the month. It's quite easy to cook for as it is broadly just meat/fish & veg and simple to follow. He has kept it off.
I'm determined to keep my portion sizes English style now I'm back. That is with the exception of a salad bowl which tends to be supersized - easy in this weather!
