Let me know what plan you come up with canoegal as that is my problem too. I'll be having my 2nd fast of the week tomorrow.

Keep the faith everyone!

Monday fast and Wednesday Fast cause me to loose a pound but then I gain it back Thursday-Sunday. I'm not going up but I'm not going down. I tried a 3rd fast day and I couldn't do it. I tried a 1000 calorie day and I couldn't do that. I tried an eating window and I couldn't do that. I tried skipping breakfast Thursday-Sunday but I couldn't do that either. I do NOT want to count calories because I can become obsessed. So right now I bought a book called "I Deserve a Doughnut". It's a Christian book that looks at why you need to eat. I lists dozens of reasons why we eat and I now know my 2 reasons for sure: Careless eating (boundaries are just guidelines that can be broken) and Denial eating (underestimating food calories, or not counting food that was eaten, or pigging out then looking back a day and saying well I did good on Wednesday so I'm still doing fine on my diet.. then pigging out more).

Basically from what I'm reading it is all a mind game. My mind on Monday and Wednesday is totally with fasting. But Thursday-Sunday I need to figure out how to control my careless eating or my denial eating. I know I'll figure this out and I refuse to be discouraged that I really haven't lost weight since last November.

Feeling denied is definitely not a good thing. Consider replacing those enticing carby snacks with something high-fat instead. Fat is far more satisfying and it won't anger the hunger dragon. Consider sipping a bulletproof coffee (which can last all day), nibble a slice of cheese or munch a strip or two of bacon....

Back at ya @rawkaren- wave, wave - Are you coming back ??????????

Yep @lovemyparrot Back June 3!

June 2nd and 3rd, I am going to be in Palma (believe it or not) @rawkaren, and a couple of days in Barcelona - a whirlwind trip to Europe (actually a 10-day trip), via Gatwick (where I'm planning a gigantic full English B-fast) - hope it all works out. But, I'll see you back in Cali June 5th or 6th !!!!!!

@lovemyparrot. Envious of your spanish trip. Do you need restaurant recommendations?

Much to my chagrin, I still live in the US. Maybe someday, I will escape.

I tried going to 4:3 and it messed with my head. I was eating far too much on my feed days, even when I wasn't physically hungry and I was obsessing about food. I'm taking this week off from fasting and will go back to 5:2 on Monday.

The weather's gorgeous, it finally cooled down. I have no interest in 89 degree temperatures, even in the summer. I really hate them in May.

As I've posted elsewhere, I am doing "FastBeach" at the moment; decided I really wanted to keep my usual light days (Mon-Thur), so didn't add an additional light day. Of the additional restrictions I had decided on, the only one I've successfully kept is no alcohol. Yet I've lost 5+ lbs in 2 weeks; tomorrow is next weigh-in. So my ultimate plan is to be more careful with beer intake once I go back to drinking; way too easy for me to treat beer like water...thank goodness for fizzy water, I don't know if I'd make it without it! Tomorrow is halfway through my planned 6 weeks sans alcohol...

Yes please @rawkaren - would love some good seafood in Palma and/or Barcelona. Is paella now too touristy/not the thing to do ? We remember some wonderful paella in Tenerife back in the day !!!

Dear @canoegal

I am also just visiting this thread out of interest to see what our U.S. friends are talking about!! :)

I read your post above about your frustration with finding a way of eating that works for you in losing weight. The book you purchased sounds interesting; can I also recommend the Amanda Sainsbury-Salis "Don't go hungry" books. (You may have read in other threads that I am am a recent fan of her approach...! There is quite a bit on this in the "wobbly" thread.)

Amanda's approach is about learning to recognize the body's hunger and satiety signals and to eat according to these. So you only eat when sufficiently hungry, you eat from a very wide range of mainly whole foods (including grains and starchy vegetables) and you eat until you are satisfied. No calorie counting, no fasting (though Amanda says there is good science to show that intermittent fasting can be a good strategy for weight loss).

Her books explain in detail how this strategy works (such concepts as the famine reaction and fat brake) and is based on our body having a natural healthy weight that is optimal for us. When we eat according to our body's needs, we will eventually attain this weight. Weight loss may not be quick, but when you learn to eat according to your needs, it should be easier to stick with than any "diet".

Good luck and best wishes for finding an approach that works for you. :clover:

@lovemyparrot. For all recommendations, you need to book ahead.

Barcelona. Spoiled for choice but easy to end up in tourist traps (and mind your bag at all times).
This one is my favourite. Restaurant is called Passadis del Pep. http://www.passadis.com.
Don't be put off by the inauspicious entrance. You are in the right place and the fish is amazing.
My Spanish friend (who used to live at Dana Point) recommends these also. I have not been but I trust him...
Botafumeiro. http://www.botafumeiro.es and El Tragaluz. http://grupotragaluz.com/restaurante/tragaluz/
Palma
Again, lots of touristy stuff but these are the two I always go back to. Don't be put off by the fact that he is a michelin star chef. The prices are bistro, not fine dining http://www.simplyfosh.com/en/. Also this one http://www.misabraseria.com/en/index.php
Fish - my aunt went here on the fish quay and raved about it http://www.caneduardo.com/
Best coffee shop in Palma is this one at the Palau March location http://www.grupocappuccino.com/cappuccino-palau/
If you walk to Portixol, which takes about take 10 mins to walk down the seafront, try these:
http://nassaubeach-palma.com/?lang=en
http://www.portixol.com/restaurant-bar/

If you plan to go outside Palma, PM me and I will give you some suggestions. In the meantime, this is an invaluable site for all things Mallorca http://www.abc-mallorca.com/restaurants ... -mallorca/.

Enjoy!

Thanks SO much @rawkaren - wish I could try them ALL !!! We have two days/evenings in Palma so hopefully will try two of your suggestions - maybe one for lunch one day and a dinner the other (maybe a cappuccino in-between!) - I do like that ABC-mallorca site - seems full of good tips. We also have two nights in Barcelona, one at each end of the trip flying in and out of the airport there. Its all a bit of a whirlwind !!!!!
