@Wildmissus my big indulgence is the monthly edition of 25 beautiful homes. I am neither art, crafty nor creative, just too mean or poor to pay others to do what I am quite capable of doing myself. All curtains and soft furnishings are made by me, hubs does plumbing, electrical and gardening whilst I do plastering, painting, wallpapering etc. Between us we can do new work tops, tiling floors and walls and any other miscellaneous jobs, phew, tired out after all that.

When can I book you @Ballerina??

thanks for the reminder @nursebean - really need to apply some noxious chemicals to my barnet to cover the grey - I used to do it regularly, until I had my head shaved last May for charity - hasn't seemed quite worth doing yet as it's been pretty short but is getting to a reasonable length now......I was going to pop into the HIT tent but seems a bit hypocritical as I've done nothing for over 2 weeks since having horrendous TOTM then a cold.....
Looking forward to my dinner now

Poor sausage is now fully recovered, thanks beanster. Apparently, because play dough recipes have a lot of salt, it upset her. She's still drinking lots, but has now had 'tea'.

I was pretty worried today when grandson got in the dog's cage, shut it and started going 'woof woof'!! What if anybody had peeped through the window? A child in a dog's cage? luckily, he is a very well balanced child!!

  what a sight Penny!!

@Madcatladyhow brave are you? I did have my hair cut really short from long hair years ago, but I don't think I could have it shaved off (although it might be easier at the moment!). I'm so tempted to go for the pastel hair colours I see...but am I brave enough?! Only time will tell xx

@Ballerina, much respect to you, that must have taken you months. I did notice the neat curves in your stripy curtains. Even though we have a modern house it has mahogany skirtings and surrounds. I'd love to have it all light oak but that will never happen. I have considered painting it all but I've decided that once the girls leave home and the carpets need changed that'll be the time to do it. Such a big job. In the mean time we have just ordered more units and worktops to replace the old ones in the utility room. We weren't going to update it but after we did the kitchen it looked really shabby and will have needed doing in a couple of years anyway. I have also decided to spruce up my bedroom. It is currently raspberry and cream and very two tone. I found a lovely new duvet cover in Dunelm Mill which is duck egg, raspberry and cream, so I'll be painting at least one wall duck egg and making a new raspberry throw for the bottom of the bed. OH does all the DIY, including plumbing, electrics and even installing a wood burner and I do all the designing, painting, making curtains/blinds.

I think we are all a talented bunch and should pat ourselves on the back  . Well, we can all have the clap instead  because that was the only smile I could find.

Erm.....if it's all the same to you @wildmissus I think I'll pass on having the clap  I was in Dunelm the other day looking for curtains for a friend and it's not a patch on what it used to be, gone all hearts and flowers and cafe society instead of acres of reasonable fabrics. I think this is called progress. I understand where your hubby is coming from but modern paints are just so easy to maintain but it is a HUGE job doing a whole house including architraves and other things you hadn't noticed like bathroom cupboard doors, window sills etc, it just went on for months but it was worth it. I even sanded down some old odd chairs and a stool and painted and recovered them, goodness there was no stopping me. I don't regret one brush stroke, it really was worth it. By the way, your new bedroom colour scheme sounds lovely

@Silverdarling there was a time when I would happily have come and done all your jobs but sadly, those days are gone, just too old and tired now besides I'm sure I've still got some painting to do

oh - I meant to say........was chatting to my boss the other evening as we were staying away for work and he said something about being over 15 stone - the look on his face when I told him that I'm heavier than him - priceless - he was properly shocked! As I was telling him, I forget that people who have only recently met me don't know that relatively recently (well 8 years ago) I was a size 12 (in my head I think I'm somewhere inbetween that and reality!) Anyway - onwards and downwards!

Blimey Bal - your house must have reeked of the smell of paint for months! Did you go out / socialise / go on holiday / sleep?

Before my house gets seriously redecorated, it needs things like possible rewiring  looked at, but I know what you mean about skirtings and architraves, I also have 13 different types of anaglypta    not my choice but just have to live with it?

Blimey. I have ONE busy, productive day, and then need another to catch up on you lot and the chatter

Just off to cook my dinner (fasting today) as the girls have had friends over for tea, and DH has eaten at St Pancras due to catching a later train than normal. Hot smoked salmon and a heap of green veg stir fried with carefully measured sesame oil.

@carorees has your Scandinavian gened husband never heard of 'Gustavian' style'? I admit is is painted furniture rather than doors etc but nevertheless it is VERY Scandinavian

@Silverdarling I used the new style water based paints, which I love, they don't smell, dry very quickly and stay white for ever, well, almost ever. It did, however take months and months and months of my life but it still worked out cheaper than replacing or paying someone else to do the work, and there was a LOT of work but it set off my friends hating their own orange pine for which their husbands have never forgiven me. Everything looked brand new rather than old and tired, as I was at the end of it, so it was worth it, just get on with it woman!

I have decided. Well I think I have, that the bookcase is coming downstairs but I am going to find some way of hanging it from the wall above the radiator as there won't be abywhere else for it after I go to the auctions on Wednesday and find an old fashioned drop leaf table for tucking in the corner. Now if I could find a drop leaf table that has the folding chairs inside for a few quid I would be very, very pleased.
The triple picture that is hanging above the radiator can go up into my bedroom as the picture is an arty farty raspberry with gold and white and would look good in my bedroom. AND, after Ballerina's talk of painting furniture, I think my boring (bargain £6) melamine brown grainy double wardrobe and matching dresser with mirror combo, can be updated with a lick of paint. Though I don't think white will suit, maybe a cream with the trim done in gold? Nah the gold would be too tacky. Trim in black? Or just leave the trim its boring plastic brown? Decisions, decisions.
