Hi @gillymary,
Sorry to hear about your dog. Must have been a shock for all. I hope he recovers well and the bully dog that messed with him is well away.

Yeah getting good with the fasts takes a bit. I did a good fast last time, but at 3am was not sleeping and broke it. But I think it counts as a good one. So it's 16:8 for me this weekend.
Have a lovely weekend
warmly
Jo

Hi@Sue.Q, It's disappointing when the fasts collapse I so know about that too. But you have so many many successes in the past. As Jools7 says its the rough and the smooth. It will return to you the smooth. Like you said today has gone well, which is a huge success. We just keep getting back on the horse don't we? That's what this is all about an endurance journey.
I think as you told me nail two good fasts....then move onto the following week and nail three?

I had a disappointing moment on the scales today. I've lost no weight. I'd only lost 4 since starting but they have all returned on the doctors scales today. At least I've not put any on. I think that's awesome not to have gained weight in the months jan - march. They are not easy months for me. SO the fasts have stopped me gaining weight.
But I'm feeling the fasts are doable. I can do it. And the non-fast days I can do 16:8 most days.
I'm worried a bit about the binging. I've not binged in years. I've just slowly gained weight. But the fasting seems to be triggering binging.

I'm going to still do the walking when I can, which might knock down the insulin highs, which might be causing the binging.
A bit disheartened of course, but I feel determined. I've learnt that I need to do 16:8 on off days.
Anyway.....weekends here and I will see how i go....I'm not giving up.

@Jo05 yes the binging is a worry but I often wonder if because we straight jacket ourselves on fast days and also 16:8 also a constrictive form do we binge or does it just seem like we binge in our heads. I seem to prefer to graze so have to ensure I graze in a healthy way. Current fad is celery sticks with cheese and fresh figs.

My dog had a fight with a wombat and came off second best but is still alive thank goodness

Oh wow a wombat? I never knew they were agro @gillymary. They seem so cuddly and innocent. But they must do some damage as they have lots of claws. Fresh figs are dreamy, and I get some now and then. Yes I'm trying to keep fruit in the house to snack on and cottage cheese. I've don't know whats causing the binging. I know dieting is notorious for causing it. But yeah these are binges. I'm tracking my food consumption and I'm binging intermittently. But certainly more than I have done in many many years since I gave up dieting.

I'm going to try exercising. Perhaps after a few more weeks I will be able to assess if its too triggering for me.
I will keep at it.
sleep for me now :) nini

Hi buddies well last nights meal went well didn't go overboard at all with either food or drink and back to last years routine of good walks and good fasts back then Friday started my week with a weigh-in which no way was I doing this morning.
I've forgiven myself for failing my fast on Thurs and moved quickly on my Fri were a 20:4 then eat + drink whatever i want and this is what I'm doing today feeling proud because i started my day with a 10k walk followed by my slow pampering session in the bathroom chilling and killing time here before preparing our evening meal all
3 courses plus wine.
Clothing feeling "snug" and my feet + legs puffy after my carb binge so the scales are staying in the garage until Easter decision made.
Hope you guys are well and enjoying the weekend.
@gillymary Glad your dog seem OK after the
wombat incident.

I so know that snug clothing feeling @Sue.Q, it's hard not to say mean things to ourselves when we feel it, or judge ourselves poorly. But you're doing so well with the fasts returning and the walking (10K's!!!!) :like: :like:. My walks are strolls. But returning.
Pondering buying scales, but undecided. Might just focus on lowering carbs, walking 16:8, 2 good fasts, and keeping cals down. If i loose weight its a bonus. fingers crossed.

Hi @Sue.Q thanks for the PM as just got onto the forum. I fasted today 19::5, am going to aim for a few fast 5 day here and there. I do know what you mean about not being in the mood. I seem to have hit a tough patch but all I can do is persist as just gave away heaps of my old size clothes and I ain't going back there.

It's just onwards for us fasting buddy

@Gillymary hope your dog is recovered from its altercation, poor thing. Keep plodding on even if you don't seem to be losing weight, just think how much good you are doing, your body will thank you for that alone

Hi @Ballerina Maxie our big dog is high maintenance presently I hardly have had much time to post since his incident. Will fill you in, have had all these plans to do other things but all have gone astray as he has to remain in the house and this is proving to be a nightmare. Lots of vigilance, as when he want to go outside we have to accompany him as he has a large gaping wound where the wombat had a munch, he has drains in, has a shake and the results are tad messy. So I am on edge running around cleaning up after him all day long. To cap it off this morning he just got fed up and jumped the fence thankfully DS was home and quickly got him back. Otherwise it would have been me in my dressing gown running up the road like a demented woman

He is lucky to be alive, the vets are great and we just have to be patient and hope he heals. I am having some candid conversations with him like do that again and you are blah blah, jumping the fence in front of me was a bit much though it being a 5 ft fence  :talktothehand:

@izzy Puts things into perspective, I sailed through my book work tonight though it took me 3 days to get to do it, and yes we have had lots of whimpering, is zonked out on sedation pre wound care time but he is also perking up as jumping the 5ft fence a testimony. All the while chocolate brown asking eyes, it's hard when they don't understand pain and not being allowed out. He has cabin fever.

Slips in and tells my buddies I've been crashing so much recently. I'm going to fast tomorrow as I believe fasting is really good for me. But I'm so gripped by the insulin resistance and carb cravings cycle its depleting my confidence.
do you agree I should keep doing the fasts even though I'm carb partying other days?
@gillymary @daydreamer21@jools7 and @Sue.Q I'd much prefer to be giving you success news, but this is where I'm at.
16:8 was good for 4 days ...then crashed today...tomorrow fasting...hope its better.
Sorry this is a boring note...im really tired...work is full on.
Hugs all round

Hey @Jo05 The 16:8 days are good I would carry on doing what you can for now at least we're gaining the health benefits even if not losing the pounds.
I know what you mean about the carb cravings the little buggers won't let go of us once hooked we just need small tiny changes along the way. cold turkey no good.

Hi ladies just a quick hello before thinking of turning in for the night (I'm shattered today!) I'm glad to be having a week where I know I can 4:3, I am paying the price today for all my naughty eating over the weekend and too many feed days all together- I jumped on the scales this morning and they showed I had gained back ALL the weight I had lost over the past few weeks. I'm sure I haven't really but I was so bummed out by it, so I am going to be really good this week- good fasts, little in the way of carbs my other days. I bought some nuts to ward off snacking, and lots of veggies for if I do snack at least it's good stuff. I'm so disappointed with myself, I need to have better self control but Friday I ate out with my girlfriend, and the Saturday we decided to do mother's day so my gran was round and there was bread and cakes and stuff. And then mum didn't feel like cooking so we had fish and chips. And then Sunday I didn't fast as there were lots of cakes left over and I couldn't resist them. I really hope this week I can kick myself into gear and behave. I'm leaving to go away for 2 weeks on Saturday so I have no idea if I'll be reaching my Easter target :(

Hope everyone is keeping well xxx

@daydreamer21
Sammy we all get those weekends now and again and as were only human we indulge well after the week you had I don't blame you, now you said it can't be a fat gain no way its water weight from the carb laden crap.
I'm in the same boat can't get my new boots on as my feet are so swollen again well another lesson learned
the hard way.
Just have a good fasting week eating your nuts + veggies
And then enjoy your time with Jammie forget the Easter challenge I have we've both come a long way be proud of your achievements nice + slow is the best way for your body to get the message and you're at the right age for any spare skin to pull back that way. :clover: :clover:
