Hello fellow fitbit lovers. I'm starting the first weekly thread for us to chat about our fitbits. It could be a great place to challenge yourself, encourage others, and of course boast when you achieve something magnificent or even soemthing less significant.

Einatbl, you asked about what affects the "active score". There is some discussion on it in the fitbit community. It appears there is some secret scientific equation that no one can really explain. What's interesting is when they created the new dashboard, you'll notice they did not include the active score. It only appears on the leaderboard view....I think they just didn't want to rewrite the code for the leaderboards to remove the active score.

What we have noticed in my work group is that you can have a higher active score even if you aren't logging a lot of steps. It appears (to us) your active score is based on not having periods of inactivity...so, someone moving around, not just standing, frequently receives a higher active score.

My goal this week is to get more early morning walks in. Have you noticed you earn more calories if your steps occur earlier in the day. Even though I don't eat those extra calories, I do love to see those high "burned" calories number.

What are your goals for this week? Any achievements you want to share?
Thanks GoLinda, you've just answered my next question about active points. I am Caroline on our leader board and you might notice hat I am climbing up up up. Not competitive at all. No I've only done two things this week that I wouldn't usually do. Those are:
1. fit in another aerobics class' so that's 5 in 6 days.
2. Go for a 4.8k walk along the river near our house with my 12yr old daughter as she was driving me mad saying.....wait for it........"I'm bored" plus I felt that I want going to bit my 10k step target being at home. Plus we popped into our social club and I downed a cider on the way home.
So all in all I've had a fab first 5 days with my fitbit. Can't wait for my first full week stats. And goodness me. you guys are very very active indeed.
First of all thanks Golinda for starting this thread :)

Well, this week I got my new fitbit one and am in the process of passing on my zip to a friend. It has had a big effect on my activity this week mainly because I think it is harder to get to my active minutes goal of an hour a day!

So I ended up doing way more steps and have started doing mini jogs as well as my walks to achieve those minutes! Not sure how sustainable it is, but in the meantime I am being a lot more active. Oh and counting floors has also gone towards that too.

For the past two days that has consisted of running around my house and lots of jogging on the spot! Not very exciting but I was stuck in and needs must.

What are everyone's daily goals?

Mine are; Steps 15,000
Floors 50
Active mins 60
Calories 2000

More often than not I achieve the goals but it is a struggle and not something I do easily.

I look forward to hearing from the rest of you :)
Hey everyone,

I am Tim way down the bottom of the leader board haha...

I haven't really played around much with my daily goals so they are all still defaults.

Steps 10,000
Floors 10
Active Minutes 30
Calories 2184 (not sure how it worked that out)

So far I have reached my steps 2 days out of 3 - floors is hard as we live in quite a flat area i've been getting maybe 5-6 on average. Active mins about 10-15

Calories seems to be the one I am confused about I seem to hit this each day just naturally so I don't know if my settings are wrong somewhere...

First day I out did the calorie target by 600 second day 300 and yesterday another 300... So if someone could maybe explain how that works it would be great - Adding my calorie intake doesn't seem to alter this area at all
Hi All
Thanks GoLinda for you explanation.
Umleilla, congrats for your achievements this last week, you must have exceeded 15K steps everyday, right? Carieoats, you too. That is great. Keep up the good work
Tim, as your your BMI is higher it is easier for you to burn calories, so you may set your goal higher than the default. As you will lose weight you'll see it will get harder to reach your calorie target, unfortunately. When I run 3 miles I burn around 300 cals. Isn't that sad? :frown:
My targets for this week( need to set them up) are 15K steps, 11km, 30 floors and 1900 cals everyday. Today I have done 17K steps already. Will try o get to 19K, we'll see. It is now 6pm, so I think I can get there. Have a great week everyone.
Tim...I think the calories is just an estimation based on your personal info and then your activity changes the calories burned. For example what I have found is if I have less than 2000 steps on a lazy day I burn about 1800 calories. For about every 2000 steps I burn an additional 100 calories. It also takes me about 15 minutes to walk 1800 steps...it's all these things that go thru my mind when I am outside walking those steps.

The calories may also come more into play if you are logging your food, which I'm not, because that is too much like weight watchers.

I try to avoid stairs as much as possible because of my knees but didn't know if everyone knew inclines count as stairs as well. I'm not sure how much of an incline it takes, but I have several available in my neighborhood I try to include on my walks.
Yea I noticed also that inclines count and am the same will try and add these into my walk where I can.

Just a small question - today is the first day since having the fitbit that I have travelled (I do a lot of travel for work) I checked my steps before the trip and once I arrived (car) and I had clocked up about 500 steps and a floor of stairs...

Does anyone know if there is anyway to temporarily stop reporting? If not how do others combat this - or is it just a small annoyance we have to deal with?
Tim, quick reply to your quick question - you can log the driving time as an activity, that will reduce the step count
Thanks for starting this thread Golinda!
I have no idea how to change goals - can anyone advise? Mine are still on the default. I think I should increase them as I achieve all of them very easily every day.
I don't usually do any different exercise, just a 5km run every morning, a 3km walk every evening and then varying amounts of activity. If I'm teaching, there is less, if I'm working on the gites in the garden or cleaning, I clock up an amazing number of kilometres.

Thanks Sian - that took them right off again :-) Now to remember to do that when I travel places as NZ roads can be quite bumpy and could potentially create a lot of steps haha
My goal is to stop misplacing my fitbit and remember to put on my clothes when I get changed.

Also need to exercise more in the weekend.

Really enjoy our fitbit group for motivation.
hi all
i am new to fitbit - i got my one on friday and have used it for sleep logging too and my question relates to that - when i stop the stopwatch in the morning it always shows me as having done 40-50 steps - is that normal? can it be cancelled?

also at the weekend it logged me as doing 18 floors and i know i didnt do that - can bending up and down impact on this?

thanks
jeniben
JeniBen, I don't use my One for sleep tracking, but you should contact the Fitbit service. I heard they are pretty good. Just one question before that... Are you sure you are not sleep walking????
Today I received a 500 km lifetime badge :victory:
After running 3 and walking 1 mile this morning on my treadmill and some walking and stair climbing at work it is noon and I logged 9900 steps :victory: I think I might try a little walk in the neighborhood in the evening after work. Today is a fasting day and I'm currently eating my lunch which consists of 45 grams of fiber one original cereal-90 cals and very filling
For UK FitBitters a Horizon documentary on now (9pm) about fitness apps. I haev already seen a Zip
