@CreakyPete Well done on your long Sunday run, that must have been a great feeling to do that...the first one since your op? And just a little stiffness after, normal I'd say.
I did 10 miles on Saturday and 13.1 today, making the most of the nice weather and time to do them. Just a couple of short trail races in June and July (only around 27km) so less speedwork training required, I don't have a plan from the coach to stick to anymore so am doing moreorless what I want. Am so enjoying off road running now the footpaths are dry. So it my border collie!

Flip.......my medial ligament is very very unhappy. It shouts at me whilst im traveling down and sometimes up stairs. I'm considering deferring GNR as its only since I upped my running that it's happened. Looking for a sports physio now who can see me pronto. Shame really as I liked being up the top(top10) of the fitbit group.

Hi has anyone seen that Fitbit and Parkrun are collaborating and setting up park run syncing plus a Facebook page and 15% off a new Fitbit.
Will post this over on the running thread too.

Got an appointment with a sports physio next weds.

Irritated my left knee a week ago. A case of early exuberance: too fast, too soon, for too far. Been babying it with cross-training (12-15 miles on a stationary bike) and a variety of stretches and rolls on both sides of the joint. Working much better but not 100%. Planning a somewhat hesitant, short morning run to see how it goes.

Update: After a lengthy warm up, my 5K run this am was better than expected. Wore an elastic knee brace for mental assurance. Finish time within reason and no knee issues to report !

I may be dropping into this thread a bit more as I've now entered my first Marathon (Brighton in April), I have three halves before that (the first one this Sunday), but very nervous about stepping up to the full distance :dazed:

Best of luck with the new challenge, Egduf! As I would occasionally encourage other runners at the inevitable split point between those two races:

"Half fast runners to the left, full fast runners to the right!"

@ADFnFuel I hope your knee is OK! If it hurts tomorrow make sure you see a physio if possible.
@EgdufCongratulations on signing up for your first marathon! And good luck for your HM on Sunday. You'll be fine as long as you get some long runs in.
I did my first marathon earlier in the year, it was tough but a magical experience and I really didn't suffer thanks to the training I put in. The best thing about doing a marathon is that doing a HM is a piece of cake to do after.... I did a HM 3 weeks after the marathon and did my best time, it was lovely being able to finish after just 21 and a bit kms.

:like: Thanks for bringing this up. I love to fast and I love to run. Combine them together and it's dynamite to me. The Parkrun sounds really great, too bad we don't have it here in the Bronx.

Hi Kretchen - nothing to stop you starting one! There are only a handful in the US so far, it does not seem to have taken off yet...

I'm jealous ! I would love to run...but I just can't :starving: ....I run 600m...and everything is hurting...I have no breath.....so I'm walking.
But my dream is one day to run 5K.
I don't know how people can do it....

@Soophie: Walk a bit, run a bit and repeat. Have you heard of Couch to 5km? Gentle progress from zero to 5k in a few months. Many on this site have achieved their 5k dreams with this approach - get the details from Google. If you get out of breath you are running too fast...
Good Luck!

The extra run on Sunday seems to be working - 24:12 at parkrun this morning. Pleased to discover that the 71 mile bike ride on Wednesday had no serious after-effects either. The gentle rain helped, I'm sure, but this is is a new post-op PB, and heading for sub-24 asap!

Thank you @ADFnFuel and @Franglaise. I've always wanted to do a marathon since I watched the first ever London one, but have only really felt up to it after a good 20km training run a few weeks ago. so bit the bullet! I've been reading up on plans and have time to prepare, and hope to shift a bit of weight beforehand (my BMI is just over 25 at the moment).

I marshalled at Parkrun today as doing the St Albans half tomorrow. Hope everyone has good runs this weekend.
