@Franglaise OK thanks, I was exactly half an hour slower than you on a flat course, but happy with my time! I have another in two weeks (Belfast) then nothing booked except maybe parkrun. I really don't know how I'm going to get around a full marathon next year, I expect just with more training and hopefully a little weight loss.

Congrats on the result by the way, very impressive!

Thanks @Simon Egan I won't be going to the finals (not sure I even can because I'm still British, plus they are in Martinique so not really near by) but it was a good boost to get in under the cut off time.
@EgdufWell done on your HM, you have a time to try and beat in 2 weeks. Losing weight will definitely help (but not losing muscle!) I felt the same as you, that a marathon would be impossible, but will the correct training you will be fine. And pace yourself, don't go off too fast! I always overtake lots of blokes walking at the end of a marathon, I think they often go off to fast and have no juice left at the end. Women are more regular
If you can do anothe HM 4 weeks before your marathon that would be excellent. And as long as you do outings of up to 3/3,5 hours you will make it to the end of the race.

Thanks @Franglaise. I definitely don't have a problem with starting too fast, I normally go right to the back and start slowly. The full marathon (Brighton) isn't until April, so I have some time to prepare, I've been reading Hal Higdon's book so will have a training plan. There's a local 20 mile pre-marathon race about a month beforehand, so I'll try to enter that.

I've just looked at my time from three years ago, and I've taken 7 minutes off - some of this was from a blockage being removed from the course, but I'm happy with that - I have been doing a bit more core and strength work, and trying to get my cadence up.

Good luck to everyone doing the GNR and other races this weekend :clover:

I did it and I wanna do it again........
Had to shuffle and run from about mile 9 due to dodgy ankle, it was very painful to run uphill and boy ther were some hills.

Congrats on a new PB! It's always illuminating to learn that our limits aren't quite where we thought they'd be.

@carieoatesWell done, especially as you had to overcome your dodgy ankle.

Recovery has been ok. Wore my compression socks as soon as I finished, then all day Monday. But yesterday I didn't wear them so the swelling appeared on my dodgy ankle.
Went to physio today and he massaged away the swelling then advised that I put it up when possible, ice and compression socks.
No running for a fortnight but I have a 5km obstacle course on 27th so will aim for that as it's just 5km after all. And so much fun.
So compression socks rule.

Curious that it works that way, isn't it?

LOL, yes, wait until you've done a marathon then a HM will seem like a walk in the park! Well done on finishing CarrieOates, the important thing is you enjoyed it and you want to do it again!

Raced both days this weekend - parkrun in 24:31 was slower than it has been but todays 10k in 50:45 was not much slower so pretty pleased. Even more pleased to be the fastest V60 and get a tiny trophy!
And I can still walk, after a fashion...
Wondering whether to risk a half-marathon at the end of October.

Yes yes yes! Go for it. Your park run times are fabulous, I'm sure a HM will be OK. Maybe try a little 10k before?

Well I did my 10k yesterday, my first ever race, without my jogging partner unfortunately as her partner's health took a downturn a few weeks ago.

It was an interesting experience and although I did not feel at my best I got a time of 67:33. I actually got a round of applause for being third in the F60 category, which I put down to there being 3 of us, but when I checked the results this morning I saw there were 4.

Ticked off my list of new things to do in my sixties (next up: my first visit to a gym) I was not smitten with the racing bug, and it was such a glorious day I half regretted I had not gone on the Settle train for a solitary tramp in the Dales. So it's back to bopping along the back lanes with my friend or my Garmin for me!
