Getting Sweaty! Exercise & Fitness

You've all persuaded me! I needed something to help me tone up and 30 day shred is what I decided on. Did 1st day this morning. I already run a minimum 10 miles a week and cycle minimum 50 miles a week on my exercise bike so I found the cardio easy, the lunges, squats and abs were pretty straight forward too. But OMG the arm work; push-ups I did the easy modified version and still a killer, those arm raises with the side lunge almost did me in! My arms are struggling to move to type this.
Thanks everyone for the tips and encouragement! No hurt knees any more. Also I wear trainers during the shred now, before I was on bare feet. That, and doing the beginners version makes all the differcence. Even doing jumping jacks!
Great results for you janeg! :like:
Hi shredders! Pain easing since yesterday but still feeling it! I'm having a hot soak as I type this (I love my iPad!). Today's workout (day 4) was the toughest one I've done, especially on the strength as I bought myself 1.5kg weights (not using cans anymore). But so far I have no regrets and look forward to my measure in on Thursday.

Happy shredding all!
it's DONE! I completed the 30 day shred tonight (had a couple of days off). I'm going to do the 6 week 6 pack next, as my tummy is my problem area. I am such a Jillian convert. She is epic!
Well done imcountingufoz. 6 week 6pack sounds scary! Keep us posted how you get on!
mummybunny, I moved from water bottles to 2lb weights and it HURT! Eep, I used to always exercise in bare feet then had a strange foot ailment and since then have used trainers. Prefer bare feet but find it a bit kinder on the rest of the bod- odd. Vebnorahs, females are notoriously bad for having really poor upper body strength- can be quite fit with good aerobic capacity but crap UBS. I'm the other way round, canny run the length of myself but can nearly lift my own weight! ;) Keep at it , soon those pressups will be easy!
I start day 11 today - level 2 and it's the day after a fast when I always find it harder. I haven't peeked so I don't know what I'm letting myself in for.
Wish me luck...
OMG....just done day 2 of level 1 and can't lift my arms....anyone want to drive me to collect my son from nursery later as I don't think I'll be able to hold the steering wheel!
Vebnorahs, the first 4 days are the hardest, you can DO THIS! Once you get through the first 4 days you'll be laughing xx
Imcountingufoz (and anyone else that can do press ups): my boobs have got a lot smaller as a result of losing weight and reducing how much I breast feed now my 'baby' is 1. It's a little depressing because I'd got used to (and liked) them being bigger  Have you found doing press-ups has made your boobs appear bigger?
Yes vebnorahs, imccountingufoz is right - after day 4 it does get easier. I am still struggling a little with going down stairs but each day from Saturday (I had done day 2 the night before and was in agony all day Saturday) has gotten progressively better. My clothes are also feeling a little looser, for what it's worth.

My boobs always get smaller when I lose weight :-( and haven't yet seen anything to change that.
I started yesterday too, it was hard but somehow not as bad as I feared, I too found that the side lunges/arm raises were too much, I had to drop the weights for the last bit...we'll see how I go today!

Me too! I'm a little bit in love with her. I watched a few interviews with her and now I'm watching The Biggest Loser on Youtube. Honestly, she is terrifying as a trainer on there, she's like a kitten on the shred in comparison!

Considering repeating the shred and doing 6 week 6 pack after my holiday :D And maybe trying her yoga one!
Day one of level two for me... Much harder to keep going through it (looks like i need to improve my cardio). I'm really hoping it gets easier quickly like level 1!! Got to be good for me though i felt like dying (jillian assured me this is exactly how she wanted me to feel, though, so perhaps i am on track!!)

Congratulations. I love Jillian Michaels. I did the 30DS over 32 days. Definitely improved my strength and stamina. My next punishment will be to try Insanity but that wont be for a while yet as I'm doing Level 1 of Jillian's Extreme Shed and Shred which I find easier than Level 1 of the 30DS.
I bought the 30 day shred DVD in January but have been two scared (and lazy I guess) to actually do it! Do you have to do it everyday? This is my fourth week of the 5:2 diet and I am totally hooked, its so great to be aware of food again but not to be obsessed with it! Would you recommend just getting stuck in? I haven't done any real exercise for a while now...
Hi Devon Dumpling, welcome. There is a link I posted up above in this thread to an ehow article about the 30DS that recommends it be done every day for the best results. I know some here have given themselves at most a day's break a week, which doesn't sound like it should be completely counterproductive - don't know that I'd lay off for more than that. I've only been doing it 5 days but hope and expect to be able to give it that kind of commitment.

Yes, definitely recommend getting stuck in! There are some tips for getting started in the ehow article. Recognise that even if the first couple of days you feel great (and wonder what all the fuss was about), days 3-5 can leave you with what we've been calling a "comedy walk" as your legs recover from the beating you're giving them. But after that it gets much easier. Good luck!
