That is great @Lizbean - sounds like a terrific way of walking and meeting up with people and having fun at the same time. Very picturesque as well.

Enjoy the pedometer.

cheers

Just returned from a short walk to town and back with a few items of shopping probably 50mins
in total walking time.
@Lizbean That looks a lovely walk well done you.
Never found a pedometer that seems to work properly
( dont want to spend too much on a posh fitbit or similar)
always seem to lose them, but did buy new one last year that seemed to be so complicated time to dust it off and maybe get help setting it up so will report back
soon hopefully. :clover:

Thanks @Maggiee@Sue.Q

I'll certainly take the pedometer advice on board, something simple will suit me down to the ground. I'll see if any discussions have taken place on the forum as I don't do complicated.

So I'm off for a similar walk as Sue.Q - to the garden centre at Alexandra Palace http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alexandra_Palace
to get some big pots for growing seedlings and some tomato plants. I'll walk there (40mins) but catch the bus back if I have a heavy load. Great views over London from the Palace!

Here I go.

One of the things I am really enjoying about this tent is the various different walking situations we all find ourselves. I live in a rural village and it really isn't possible to walk any decent distances around home, not in a purposeful way. To go to town, I have to take the car. Once in town, I can drop the car and walk. I am envious of you, Lizzie, living in London, where you can do such exciting walks. But then, others may envy me, walking along country roads with cows and pretty scenic sites - and then there's the others who walk in the 'fells'... I'm not even sure what a 'fell' is.

I have had a number of pedometers and they often get lost. I once dropped one down a drop toilet in far western China. All the same, it's worth getting a reasonably good one, I believe, because otherwise, like bad scales, you can't trust them. I didn't realise a 'fitbit' was a pedometer. And Izzy, are you saying you can get an app for an i-phone which acts like a pedometer?

I have made a date with the neighbours to join them on a long walk tomorrow. This will make up for today when I only managed to get to the shop and back.

Just had a walk around the old town of Warsaw, and then back to our apartments, about half an hour all up - does that count? - but got completely soaked. Rain! Not used to it! But at least my boots kept my feet dry.

Most definitely counts @Jools7 especially when it's uphill
Well at least I now know where you are. Lol

I'm back from the garden centre £70 poorer. Beautiful sunny, spring weather, I feel great. I had to catch the bus back as I bought a lawn edger (cutter), two toms plants, one pepper plant and lots of seeds and other bits.

@Sallyo London is great for all sorts of walks, historical, biodiversity etc. I do try to get out of the city, to the coast, peak district and lakes etc but as you say it's not on my doorstep and I certainly don't wake up to it. The grass always looks greener on the other side, we can't have it all and when we do touch the other side it is an extra special treat. I settled in London 30 years ago and have seen many friends leave - I can't see myself leaving - never say never but that's how I feel today!

My walking generally consists of a walk to work from my bus stop, and since I am usually 20-25 min early, I can walk around the building (or outside now that it is getting lighter in the am) and put on a mile before work 3 days a week! I try to walk around the building a few times a day and outside for lunch if it is nice. Then home to my dog, Marley, and we take a walk from the house to an outside walking track, go once around that (.9 mi), then home. Having Marley does help get the steps in.

I have a fitbit. When I first started (before we adopted M), I went about 3-5,000 steps. Now I am 10-15,000 steps! Belonging to the forum group makes it fun - I sometimes make up excuses to go for a quick walk just to feed my fitbit!

Today, Saturday, took my brother to an indoor walking track (he is handicapped and needs flat surfaces to walk), put on a couple miles, mowed the lawn and worked in the garden, another 2-3 miles, then the Marley walk, a couple more miles. Thank goodness it was a gorgeous day, highs in the low 70s.

Thanks for staring this thread SallyO!

Lovely to see this tent getting occupied. I went for a 9 km walk today with my lovely neighbours. They took me further down the waterworks road than I'd ever been and we were walking in forest with tree ferns and big gum trees. We saw lots of potoroos- like a small wallaby - and various birds, thornbills, fairy wrens, even a magpie which we don't get in Forth. I heard it before I saw it, high up in the trees. I am feeling pretty tired in the leg department now, but I think having a tent to drop into really helps me!

Oh @sallyo, I am so jealous! I will be officially urban for the next 2 weeks (Warsaw& singapore), after that I have to get into the bush. Tasmania is my spiritual home for walking, don't want to get too political here, but I just hope they leave enough of it so we can still walk!

I should probably post this in the 'virtous' tent, just recording the two walks I have completed.

Yesterday before we went to a Wedding I did a 30minute walk plus 10 mins on the Wii and today I have been for a 60 min walk.

My husband has given me a Fitbit Flex so I am busy setting up the steps, calories, distance, sleep - I do like a new toy!

It's not as glamorous as the streets of London and Warsaw, but it's still a walk in the sunshine, wind and fresh air whilst looking at all the beautiful autumn leaves.

cheers
Maggie.

Well done @Maggiee you're doing great and sounding full of new determination
I've just returned from my fastday walk along country lanes, tracks, and fields on a lovely day here in the UK I do try to do a longer walk on fastdays today's was 4*5miles
(7km approx) love this walk because of all the differing wildlife seen along the way did cut it shorter than usual to get into garden
Feeling good have topped up my liquids and now going for couple of hours in the garden before a pampering long soak in the bath, then slowly preparing our evening meal.

Well done Maggie and Sue Q. We are all doing so well. Here i am in Hobart. I walked a long way today in the city. I don't know how far but my legs are tired. I spent the afternoon walking through the park with my granddaughter - aged 7 -collecting autumn leaves, berries, seed pods and learning how to squeeze rosemary leaves and smelling your hands. We had the BEST time.
