I hear you @sarahg, there seem to be a few of us in the same boat as you. I am trying with fasting windows on normal days but I too have nut fetishes some days! I guess it is the best of a bad bunch of things we could get carried away with though!
A HUGE thank you to Sian for pointing me to this thread!

I returned to 16:8 today. 5:2, 4:3, alternate day, was just not for me. I love just eating within a certain window without counting calories.

I did this a while back and lost weight very slowly, but I felt more clear headed and mentally sharper after about a month. I fell off the wagon, regained. Now I'm back. I love this way of eating.
I am doing 4:3 and after two weeks have added 16:8. I found my first fast of the week hard after semi fasting the day before. I have had nothing since 4pm today choosing to have my window at the beginning of the day. Tomorrow is another fast day which I hope will be ok. I am not hungry now. It is still a bit of an experiment just now but I am amazed I am not starving! Just goes to show how much I was over eating before.
Quick question about breaking your fast, I usually try to break my fast with something low GI, low carb, but how long should I wait after that before eating something less virtuous?
Not to long I reckon...maybe 30 min?

Ooh, I like that answer, thanks
"What do we think?" I think I'm in!

I haven't read all the posts yet, but someone was kind enough to point me here, and I posted right away.

I am reading The 8 Hour Diet Book, and this is perfect for me. I'm starting tomorrow.
Question for you 16:8ers: Do you totally fast before your eating window opens? I was reading in the book The 8 Hour Diet that up to 40 cals before breaking your fast is an acceptable "cheat."

I'm using 35 cals worth of unsweetened almond milk in my tea before breaking my fast. Do any of you do something like this or are you real strict about having 0 cals? I hope this won't interfere with my fasting benefits. Thanks!
I don't have any calories but others do have some so you need to work out for yourself what works best for you, good luck

Thanks Ballerina. I read over that paragraph about it being acceptable. I don't think it will hurt me if I stay real strict otherwise.

Ballerina, I was reading over your older posts, etc. about 16:8. You are a real inspiration, and I hope it works as well for me as it does for you! There really is no Plan B for me anymore, so I'm hoping at the very least my health will improve doing this.
I feel quite strongly that if you stick to whatever form of IF suits you best you can only be doing yourself the greatest favour possible, the second greatest favour you can do yourself is to buy a winning lottery ticket. IF is easier!!!!

So for some reason my willpower has gone with 5:2 ing. I decided to give the 19:5 a go, I am on day 4. Monday was great did 19:5, Tuesday did 18:6, Wednesday did 18:6 and had done really well and was really chuffed but then I HAD to take some ibuprofen for my head at 1030 pm, so I ate porridge and (an unnecessary) cake. Today My eating window will start at 12 - 1 if I can wait that long and last 5 or 6 hours. I hope I will lose weight this way. I must admit not eating at night takes a lot of willpower initially but I am hoping it will get easier. The book says day 5 is usually the hardest. I am still counting today as a good day even though I had a blip yesterday as it wasn't my fault I had to eat (except the cake). So I am gonna go for 19:5, or 18:6 and as a very last resort I'll do 16:8. So I will let my willpower be the guide (kind of). Do you think this will work?
@debsie I can actually lose weight with very cautious 18:6 days but yes you need willpower and
determination you're doing great. :clover:
As Friday is my weigh in day my 4:3 is over and done with for this week
But were out for a meal tonight so today will be 18:6
I would prefer to do a 20:4 but will get earache from OH
So this is a compromise with a small salad lunch 60cals
Feeling very good this week I assume the "high" is from my very low carb week ready for forum weigh-in tomorrow please please let me blow some more holiday gain away forever and knuckle down to weightloss :clover:
:clover: 19:5 @debsie, it has worked brilliant for me, I'm on week 24. Hope you don't get derailed by headaches again. How did you do your 5:2 fast days? I think converting to an eAting window is easier for those who got used to one evening meal.

I started with a window of 5 to 10 because I knew I could last till then, and it gave me permission to eat up until bedtime (I lead a dull life  ). Gradually I moved it forward to 2 to 7 so I don't have so long to wait and I know I can survive not eating for 3 or 4 hours before I turn in and not lie awake hungry. Otherwise fasting is fasting whichever way, sometimes you are not aware of it, sometimes you grit your teeth while hunger gnaws away in your belly  but when the eating window opens you can EAT!
