lovely dress @wendyjane - thanks for sharing

@Lizbean - love that you are shopping for clothes for an 89-year old - she sounds very sprightly - when my Grandma got to that age I don't think new clothes crossed her mind (she was quite old-fashioned though - think knee-length bloomers which she used to tuck her handkerchief up the leg of - God love her!)

@CandiceMarie I also bought these for me, velvet coat, warm dress, flat shoes I normally buy vintage through the year and bump up my wardrobe in autumn. Just need to find some whacky boots. x

@Madcatlady thanks - well my 89 year old Mum is a clothes Diva, I'm not! She still runs the family home, gave up driving 2 years ago (macular degeneration). Hope the dress fits her wishes. Ordering Decleor face products tomorrow and a cake from Konditor and Cook I think. When one gets to 89 and can't get out we need special treats and surprises regularly.

@Lizbean that is a lovely lot of buys. I have looked at that coat, and may buy it myself! Lovely colours available, what colour did you get? @wendyjane I also got a cord dress last winter 'for a song' in the boden sale - and have worn it already this season. Needlecord seems to be very fashionable again. Well done for trying a dress - I have acquired no less than five over the past few months, bought, given as present, and 'preloved' !

@CandiceMarie thanks, my sister who lives near to Mum is the top stylist. She tries on the clothes in the shop to make sure they fit (both size 10 but Sis is taller). Sis is quite humorous about it - when shopping for herself and she finds something nice she tries it on and often ends up thinking Mum would like this and so it's taken home for a fitting and like test! Occasionally when she visits, Mum will compliment her on a piece of clothing (recently a cream jacket) - said item is tried on and if it passes the test it's given to Mum and sis goes home a garment less. We have a good giggle about this ........

@Silverdarling I bought the purple, it is beautifully lined - definitely one of those great purchases. I saw them online earlier this week (great reviews) but they did not have the purple in size 8 and so when by chance I saw them in John Lewis ladies department - it just had to be bought! They only had two size 8's in purple and four 10's in blue. Good luck in your search - it seems they are going like hot cakes.

Gorgeous dress for your mum, lizbean. I lust for it myself (age 73)--but I don't really need another :frown:

Hope she enjoys wearing it to all those wonderful occasions--so good of you to spend so much time shopping with her :like:

[quote="Lizbean"]@WendyJane I saw your dress today, it is lovely, they had an ivory cord colour too! Have you seen Sea Salt range http://www.seasaltcornwall.co.uk/ - I have my eye on a number of cardigans for Xmas presents - quite like White Stuff range.

@Lizbean, I won't see the seasalt range till I get to your part of the world - hoping for sometime in the next couple of years!! I'm curious, did you notice how much that dress was selling for? Just wondering about the difference in price on the same item, here and there...

I just saw the lovely jumper that Wildmissus posted in the Dilbert thread and it made me wonder what purchases everyone is making now that the seasons are changing. In the UK we seem to have missed Autumn completely and will be going from summer directly into winter. I'm not good at putting things together so any help and suggestions would be gratefully received. Thank you x

Here are a few lookbooks @Wendy Darling Might give you a few ideas and we can all chip in when you say what you like and we can probably find some bargains for you! I'm still in summer clothes and looking forward to digging out my winter coat when I come home next week. (Can't believe I said that   )

Thank you @rawkaren I like fitted things because I need shape, plain round necks don't suit me without a scarf. Textures look good on me. Velvet, lace etc. I like the tweedy things that are around at the moment. I really like this but I think it's very expensive.

I saw a nice much cheaper one

The thing I struggle with is what to wear with them. Thanks again

Looks like you are on trend @wendy darling. Lots of checks at M&S at decent prices. http://www.marksandspencer.com/l/women/ ... eck-skirts
I'd keep the tops simple (single colour). Wear with a leather or similar biker jacket that is fitted at the waist http://www.marksandspencer.com/faux-lea ... /p22321422 with opaques and ankle boots.

Ok thank you. Got it. I had already fancied the last checked skirt on the page, wouldn't have thought of the jacket with it. Will definitely get them. I have black ankle boots and some nice long sleeved stretchy tops in nice colours from Primarni. Got black, khaki and aubergine. Not sure if I have any others. I think that will look really good. Thank you
Oh, and as for getting your winter coat out next week....... It's still too warm, you'll probably only need a jacket.
