Well done, Pipsqueak!

I too feel healthier than ever. I have osteoarthritis in my finger joints, but the pain from this has been controlled by acupuncture for several years.

All in all, I feel like a forty-year-old - a fit forty-year-old. I have a spring in my step where ever I go - I can't see a flight of stairs without running up it - I often break into a skip or a jog when walking anywhere, even, on occasion, when carrying a couple of heavy shopping bags. Walking is just too slow!

I came back on because I've just remembered I'm a member of the Institute of Advanced Motorists - I passed my test last year. :|)

Oh, and I'm a member of the local U3A group - studying philosophy.

I've been investigating U3A and am very interested. Time though, is my enemy.

My husband's been a member of U3A for several years now and highly recommends it. So many courses/groups/trips/holidays on offer, there's literally something for everyone.

@Katherina--maybe all the anxiety did have something to do with it! Actually, it was probably partially caused by misplacing my back brace (senior moment?) for a couple of days and only found it just after the fatal twinge.

It's eased up a little today, so it looks like it won't be a long siege (happens every year or two).

Thanks for the good wishes.

Have to have a word here before I pop off to the gym, yeah someone has got to do it. If I don't I seem to seize up.

What is Sod's law is that what I found when I turned my ankle on the only piece of bark on the driveway 3 weeks ago. It is putting paid to my newlywed discovered yoga class which I am keen to get back to but know it needs me to have solid stance for many of the poses. Getting there but wish I could sod it off ...sore foot that is?

Talking about pooches. My little Jack Russell who is a really old lady came back after being lost for 2 nights. She had gone on an adventure down a few wombat holes I presume. We live on the edge of a forest which is home to many wombats. Well my dog is recovered after we found a monster tick on her. All that was working when my neighbour found her was the smile on her face. She was yellow from sandy clay not a bad effort for a mostly white dog. Fun was had

Marybeth sending :clover:  re back am sure you will be dancing again soon, probably with Breadandwine

Oh dear some of you are really under attack from uncooperative bodies & poorly dogs! So I hope Marybeth, Penny, & gillymary, things are getting better now. Pipsqueak what an amazing walk you are going on! you really put me to shame by your example, as for running up stairs Bread&wine! Perhaps when I have lost all my excess weight

But on a positive note I am heading downwards again having lost 1&1/2lbs that makes up for my one pound gain last week, caused by all the lunching out I think! It's lovely being a lady who lunches but if only it doesn't make me gain weight.

 Gillymary, I SO empathise with what's happened to you as I seem to be a victim of Sod's law too! I joined a gym 4 years ago, signed up for a year's membership, went for an induction on how to use the machines etc, came home full of it, caught my foot on the leg of a coffee table, fell on the wooden floor and broke my right arm in three places! :curse:
Thankfully it has healed well and I'm fine now but oh, the pain and frustration at the time!

I was diagnosed with osteopenia, a precursor to osteoporosis 10 years ago after DEXA bone scan recommended by my GP as my mum had suffered from osteoporosis and had several fractures as she got older. Luckily despite the triple fracture to my arm I have not developed fully blown osteoporosis and I take care to eat a calcium rich diet, don't smoke and do load bearing exercises. Good link here for any interested.

After being a Lurker since late July I have at last introduced myself.
Someone suggested I might like to join this particular section but as you are all youngsters I am not sure if I am eligible.

I was 83 in August and had decided to try the Fast 5'2 diet as my heart specialist thought a four pound weight loss might help me. It doesn't sound a lot but, being 5 foot and female meant in the past I had a job losing the odd pound or two.

Anyway I bought the book, read it and decided I'd give it a go.

I have lost ten pounds and feel so much better for the weight loss.
Thirteen years ago I had a triple bypass so losing the extra pound or two makes a big difference to my energy levels.

I originally weighed 8 stone 4 pounds (116 pounds); now 7 stone 8 (106 pounds).

I take vitamins as I believe in them. My hair is its original mouse and I still have my teeth!!! I test beauty products for the Beauty Bible people and have just completed a test for another firm. The product was ...........wait for it Snail Gel!!

My hearing has deteriorated so I have to have my ears syringed in November when I also have a Review with my doctor.

As far as ageing is concerned, I believe in mind over matter : If I don't mind, it doesn't matter!

Hallo, good afternoon and welcome to our happy band of 'act your shoe size not your age'. The view from 80+ is very interesting and well done on the weight loss.

I just read a short free book that basically said:-
Eat slowly and when you are actually hungry
Eat colourful real food as much as you can
Don't eat sugar in any form
Keep your life real

I liked it

Thanks to you all for good wishes and hugs--last time the back "went out"--Spring 2012--I hobbled for weeks and needed PT. That's when I started wearing a back brace for bending activities http://www.soap.com/p/mueller-adjustabl ... agpspn=pla makes me feel secure and I think helps to keep everything together! So this time I'm feeling much better already--maybe it's all the forum good vibes combined with strong muscles from weight training class.

My last dexascan in June showed I've been putting on bone and am now normal, not oesteopenic any longer.

Welcome Eirlys--hope I'm as vital in another 11 years as you are.
