I've just found another use for coconut oil, that I am waiting impatiently for it to cook right now.
I get eczema in my ears, right down where the eardrum is. So usually when it flares up I need specialist ear drops which are anti-inflammatory, anti-fungal, anti-biotic and have a dash of steroid in them as well. The anti's are for the fact that when you have eczema the skin cracks and all sorts of nasties can creep in and make things worse. I always have a bottle handy to nip the problem in the bud before it gets to ear infection stage. Well this time I have run out, I stupidly thought I had a spare bottle, but didn't. So hubby looked online for me and found a natural remedy for it.

The recipe is equal quantities of coconut oil and olive oil with a squashed garlic clove or 2. You heat the oils up with the garlic cloves for 20 minutes making sure the mix doesn't boil, I'm using a bowl over a pan of hot water. Then you leave it to cool, pour the oils (not the garlic) into a bottle and add 2 drops in the ear 3 times a day. It can take a week to sort out, but that is the same time scale as the prescription stuff anyway. The oil soothes and moisturises the skin and the coconut and garlic are antifungal and natural antibiotics. If it works I will be using this instead of the doctors stuff as I prefer natural goods over pharma goods any day.
We do the same sort of thing in our family. But only use the olive oil and garlic. I never thought of putting coconut oil in there too. We also don't heat it up, I know you say you just warm the mixture but it works for us for ear infection when it's not been warmed. It's great when you find something natural that works just as well as meds, isn't it? Thanks for sharing, I will remember the c/oil next time one of us has an ear infection. :)

The recipe also said you can just steep the garlic in olive oil, but you need to wait about a week before its usable and I need mine today. I also don't think the olive and coconut oil would blend without some form of heating, especially on a cold day when the coconut oil is solid.
I discovered coconut milk
I don't drink it, I hate to taste of coconut anyway, I put it on my skin, right after I shower, as it is still wet, and on my hair for 30 minutes before the shampoo. It's an excellent body lotion and, for the hair, it moisturize dry hair and helps for the growth.
I've been using coconut oil as a body moisturiser for a month now and have had some noticeable results. I've always had incredibly dry skin, to the point where I had rough 'chicken' skin with pimples of dry skin on my arms and legs. Exfoliating was a (very) temporary solution and the sun sorts it, but not in England in the winter :(. However, coconut oil has made a massive difference and my skin is now smooth and soft. I grew up in the tropics when we thought baby oil was just perfect for tanning, so I have significant sun damage on my décolletage and the skin was lined and not smooth. Since using coconut oil the skin has become noticeably smoother, although the pigmentation and wrinkles are still there. Short of being able to turn the clock back, I'm happy with the results and am a life long convert to coconut oil :D
A little late to join this topic but I'm so impressed I had to comment

My supply of coconut oil was delivered yesterday, i found a good deal on amazon, two 15oz tubs of Nutiva Organic Extra Virgin Coconut Oil for $14 - I was keeping my fingers crossed the smell won't be too strong as I'm not a fan, thankfully it isn't

I did my first oil pulling today and like everyone said, it's left my teeth feeling so smooth and looking shiny, like I've just had a visit to the dental hygienist!! and that's just from one 6 minute pull. :like:

Im going to have shiny hair, shiny skin and shiny teeth.  :like:

Thanks for posting about this, I learn so much from all of you. :hugright: :hugleft:  :star: :crossed:
Spent most of today on and off reading this thread. When I got half way through I went on amazon and ordered some coconoil. Dont know if I'm brave enough to pull but I'm going to try and give it a go.

How are you all getting on? :?:
Just sent off for a jar from Amazon UK as my local Waitrose is out of stock. Thinking of using it as a moisturiser after reading all your lovely posts!
Special offer of coconut butter body scrub on approved food here's the link .

Half price, but watch out for the postage. Have a look around the site and bulk out the order to make the postage negligible. They also have coconut cream for pouring over desserts along with masses of other stuff. Another thng to watch for is that the item isn't pricier than you would pay for in the local supermarket (I have an Asda page open and search for comparisons on there.

If you type in the search bar " case price" and/or the word "deidentified" you can get some massive bargains on cases of food, or stuff that has had the identifying label scrubbed out (though its easy to tell the difference between Asda stuff and Sainsburyies stuff.
My jar of oil came yesterday and I have been slathering it on my crepy arms with gusto! It smells nice, I just hope it works on the wrinkly bits.....always live in hope!
I love your Christmassy avatar Auriga
I just wanted to wish a very Happy Christmas to all contributors to this thread because I have learnt so much about coconut oil :like: :like:
I have been oil pulling whilst making cheesecake this morning because it is a fast day & coconut oil leaves a nice taste in my mouth
I have also found the useful anti fungal & antiseptic properties of coconut oil to moisturise my tummy folds that have yet to disappear, that used to get red & sore but now never do! & next year will see me continuing to moisturise my skin, oil pull & cook with coconut oil.
I hope all of you are slimmer, fitter, with nice shiny teeth & hair, well moisturised smooth skin & very much looking forward to an enjoyable Christmas :star: :star: :present: :present: :reindeer: :reindeer: :booze: :booze: :drink: :drink:
And a very Happy Christmas to you too @Isis :reindeer: :drink:
I have my first coconut oil jar, virgin and organic. A bit pricey but it's quite a big jar so it's fine. Tried the bullet proof coffee but I don't think it's for me. I don't like the taste of coconut and it was weird that sensation or grease in my coffee. I drank it all but, at the end, felt a bit nauseous....

Will try on my hair and skin tonight. On the hair, you put it as a mask before the shampoo and shower or at the end, like I did with olive oil?
For my long hair I find it best to melt 3 teaspoons of coconut oil from solid to liquid and then rub on to my head and down my hair. I put a shower cap over the lot and leave it on for an hour and a half, then shampoo it off but no conditioner, so as to get the best effect from it. Next wash is without oiling so then I shampoo and condition.
Good luck :0)
Thanks, Azureblue, I did like you said and now look a bit ridiculous waiting for my shower later tonight

One of my cat likes coconut oil, she licked the spoon after I was finished using it, so I did a search to see if it was good for her and look what I found
