Just heard that Maya Angelou, a beacon for justice and equality, has died... RIP. X
I love her poem Still I Rise..

You may write me down in history
With your bitter, twisted lies,
You may trod me in the very dirt
But still, like dust, I’ll rise.

Does my sassiness upset you?
Why are you beset with gloom?
‘Cause I walk like I’ve got oil wells
Pumping in my living room.

Just like moons and like suns,
With the certainty of tides,
Just like hopes springing high,
Still I’ll rise.

Did you want to see me broken?
Bowed head and lowered eyes?
Shoulders falling down like teardrops.
Weakened by my soulful cries.

Does my haughtiness offend you?
Don’t you take it awful hard
‘Cause I laugh like I’ve got gold mines
Diggin’ in my own back yard.

You may shoot me with your words,
You may cut me with your eyes,
You may kill me with your hatefulness,
But still, like air, I’ll rise.

Does my sexiness upset you?
Does it come as a surprise
That I dance like I’ve got diamonds
At the meeting of my thighs?

Out of the huts of history’s shame
I rise
Up from a past that’s rooted in pain
I rise
I’m a black ocean, leaping and wide,
Welling and swelling I bear in the tide.
Leaving behind nights of terror and fear
I rise
Into a daybreak that’s wondrously clear
I rise
Bringing the gifts that my ancestors gave,
I am the dream and the hope of the slave.
I rise
I rise
I rise.

Sorry personal rant here, son messed up his Uni application for his Masters of Teaching, managed to apply for English instead of Music. Naturally he hasn't been accepted as he wasn't studying English. Fingers and Toes crossed he isn't too late in fixing this or it's 6 months of nothing to do for him. Arrrrggghhh don't they drive you nuts sometimes!!!!!

Thanks @CandiceMarie. He has reapplied, the course doesn't start until late July. Otherwise he will have to start next year, well as long as he passes the Music degree.

Hippocrates said about “corpulence”:-
“Fat people, and all those who wish to become lean, should do much hard work while fasting, and should take their meals while still fatigued, and without resting, and after having drunk a little weak wine : their meats should be prepared with sesamum and suitable seasoning, and should be fat ; in this way appetite will be satisfied with a smaller quantity. The obese person should eat but one meal a day, should not bathe, should sleep on a hard bed, and should walk as much as possible.”

Nothing new under the sun, just forgotten then rediscovered :0)

Thank you @CandiceMarie for posting "I rise". Yesterday National Public Radio (NPR) played a clip of Angelou reading/performing this poem herself--it's so very moving and glorious. NPR had much about her and so many clips of her interviews yesterday.

I loved reading it again this morning.
