@rawkaren So sorry about your FIL. I hope his passing was as peaceful as possible, even if it's not a consolation

And so it begins.... I have a strange Christmas tradition, every single year I am sick or broke something (remember, last year I broke the top of my foot on Christmas day) and spend at least the 24th and 25th or 31st and 1st in bed. This year it seems it will be the flu as I am sick since last night. My body rejects Christmas, there's no other explanation
Oh dear @manderley, not again?! I hope you feel better soon (before Xmas).
Don't worry, @carorees, I am used to it. No wonder I don't put on weight during the Holidays Last year was wondering why I wasn't sick and that's when I broke my foot so, you see, a simple flu is nothing
I'm so sorry for your loss of your Father in Law @RawKaren. all the best to you and your family as you mourn at this sad time. Hugs to you

Sad you lost your fil @rawkaren virtual hug to you. @manderley speedy recovery.
I too am very sad as only a couple of hours ago had, for the second time in a few months, to stand and console a family pet while the vet euthanised. Now our lovely girl Jack russell won't be with us any more and will join our other much missed family pet in the back garden. She had a good innings making it to 15 year of age but it is still such a blow all the worse as it was a sudden shock too.

Oh I am so sorry @gillymary... Having gone through the loss of my dog a few months ago I know what you're going through. Even if they are "only" pets, they become a whole part of the family and it's always heartbreaking to see them go. Big virtual hugs to you and your family
Thanks @manderley it is the first time we will be without a dog in 30 years. I am still stunned really. She belonged to DS, a Xmas present 15 years ago when he was a little fella, so it's sad for us all and you are right, she shared a very big chunk of our family life. She was a bit of a minx too and often led us a merry dance with some of her antics. A lot of character with a life much loved and well lived. We will miss her heaps
When we lost Volcan, last may, it was the first time in 30 something years there was no dog at home and we stayed without for a few months as my parents didn't see themselves going through something like that pain once again at their age but, finally, after a time to grieve, we found Happy, our border terrier, who needed a home (he's 2 and was a sperm donor where he used to live.....) and he's so funny and happy that we don't regret one bit. It's what I said to my mother, he don't replace Volcan as he didn't replace Fiona and she didn't replace Pollux, they all have their own place in the family and even if their departure is heartbroken, it doesn't take what they bring all their life....
@gillymary. I'm so sorry about your pet. It's absolutely heartbreaking losing animals. Hugs to you.
@gillymary - hugs from me too - losing a pet at any time is bad enough but this time of year just seems worse
