Guess what I just did?!?! Give up?

Went to a Zumba class! Made it all the way through, too, though with considerably less energy by the end. 13000 steps so far today (8PM).

2014, here I come!
Local retailer just rung and said they will except the 10KG Challenge!!

What happens is they will rent me a Treadmill for 6 months. If in the 6 months I loose 10KG then they give me the treadmill :-)

This should certainly help with the steps! Works out I get the Treadmill for about 1/2 price if I loose the 10kg, and I am certain I can with just the 5.2 let alone added exercise.

Bring it on! Should arrive early next week

Wow! I'm quite envious.

Oh well done @wendyjane! :like: I started back at zumba yesterday after a two week Christmas break and it was such hard work but I absolutely love it! You just can't help but enjoy yourself even if like me, your feet and brain don't always work in sync as the music is so energising. :like: :like:
Well done both Wendyjane and TBrewerton!!!

As for the Force - I decided against it. It's not waterproof, so you have to take it off for showering and on the forum they said you really should take it off for things like doing the dishes. Also, the band can't be changed or replaced, so once the band wears out, you need to buy a new one. According to the forums, the flex bands wear out between 6 and 12 months of age. So I went with the One. Hubby has the Flex, and he now wishes he had the One as well.
Interestingly, This is the first week I've actually tracked all food with 5:2 fasting. And I'm already down 3522 calories for the week - and I haven't eaten dinner yet. So in theory, if I stay in my TDEE for the rest of the week, I should still lose a pound :-) My fingers are crossed that this works as planned
Nice one @Tracieknits

Yea I have the one as well - love it, was going to get the flex but after reading numerous reviews of people raving about the one and only a handful raving about the flex I am glad I made the decision I did.
hello-
Before I decide if I'm brave enough to try to join you, I want to ask if you eat your calories back for your exercise on non-fast days? I got a fitbit one in July, but haven't made 10,000 steps yet. Is there a way to set the stride? I'm thinking that might be part of my solution because on days my husband & I both walk, he always makes his 10K & I don't get over 3,000. Maybe ill see if he'll swap one day! Thanks for all input.

Hello MLCDz,

Yes, you can adjust the stride, however the default is based on your height. So if your legs are average for your size, you are probably good to go. Otherwise, you can mark off a course and check it.

Just send me or anyone else a PM if you want to join the 5:2 group on the FitBit site. We don't chat over there, but it has a great leaderboard to keep you motivated. And don't worry about personal standings, it's your journey and you will find your own way:)
Hi @MLCDz

I personally don't (consciously) eat any different whether I exercise or not. On non fast days I don't monitor my eating at all - I only do this on fast days and then I am very strict to ensure I don't go over 600c.

As far as setting your stride length - this can be done on the fitbit website in your dashboard. Click the little Cog up in the top right of the page and select settings then in your Personal Info it has stride length. I personally have never set mine as it seems about right for me - but that is where its done :-)

Hope that helps

Way to go ... excellent. Hope you have enough space for it, if not then I do
The leader board is quite impressive and daunting for fitbit newbies like myself BUT I have been making more of a conscious effort to walk so I bundle in the subzero temps we're still having and walk around the block a couple of times just to try and get to the 5k steps I've committed to during the week, the weekends are generally easier so get to 10k. :victory:

I do feel like this can become another obsession - it's hanging around my neck on a lanyard, a constant reminder for me to move. I guess I could have worse obsessions, like cookies and chocolate - oh hang on, I kind of do

Keep on stepping :clover: :like:

The fitbit adjusts your calories based on exercise - so if you are logging food in the fitbit app, then it will tell you how many more you have that day.

On a fast day, you can eat 25% of your TDEE, or 500 calories for a woman, whichever is higher - so if your normal TDEE is 2000 calories, eat 500 calories. If you do so much exercise that fitbit says your burn for that day is 2400 calories, then you could have 600 calories on a fast day.

I wouldn't necessarily change the stride unless your legs are unusually long or short. Your stride will change based on your pace. Fitbit has calculated this - more steps per mile when walking than with running, for example.
