Hello Runners

I found this little gem for runners
http://www.electricblues.com/html/runpro.html

A bit down the page you can download an excel sheet and fiddle with your results/age/weight to see how it affect your race times - At least in theory :bugeyes:

What was really new to me is that race runners go for 18.5 BMI (yes of course) and my own ambitious weight loss goal is now mediocre - doh... Good thing I'm no a race runner, hehe.
Anyway it's still fun, and if you're into Jack Daniels training you get a lot of info on training speed for various training passes.

@RunningOlsen
Thanks for posting that! I've downloaded the spreadsheet but can't seem to get it to work, so will keep trying.
The best two girl runners in my club have BMIs of over 18,5, probably more like 20 because they are both very fit with a lot of muscle. I can understand that long distance runners want to have a very low BMI but not sure about shorter distance runners. My BMI is around 19 - 19,5 now and any lower than that and my bones stick out too much!

Hello @Franglaise
the 18.5 is for elite of elite long distance. Shorter runs benefits from more muscle I guess, so they'd be around 20 BMI. Still darn low :shock:

I'll try to help with the spreadsheet.
You need at least Excel version 2002, then try this:
1. Enable macros in the sheet, they will probably be turned of by your default security. You should have a small button somewhere saying "enable macros"
2. Fill in these cells with your own data: C2, C3, C4 (untick in your case), E2, E3,E4
3. Pick a best recent run, enter that in E6, G6
4. The sheet should now calculate and change some cells
There's a lot more in the tab "Instructions"

Do ask again if it's still nt working.

@RunningOlsen
Brilliant, thanks, that is working for me now!
Based on my 10km performance, I should be able to do a half marathon in 1h42 mins and a marathon in 3h33mins, which is around what I'd hoped for :smile:

I THINK I'm about to sign up for a 10km on the 5th July :shock:

Can't quite bring myself to press the button!

Yes, do it!

I have several 10ks lined up for thsi year, with the aim of getting my time down to under an hour.

New parkrun PB on saturday - 26:34, which I'm thrilled with. It's our anniversary run next week. There are 2 ladies who have been huge supporters all year long, but who are struggling to get their times under 35. I'm tempted to run with them and pace-set, so they achieve PBs on the anniversary.

Hi all, glad to see you are doing OK without my prompting! I have had a couple of weeks off parkrun due to stiff hip joints and generally feeling rubbish.

MrsPete has completed her 100th run, all at our local course, so last Saturday we ran together at Ipswich for a change. Hilly, damp but nevertheless fun with 25:34 for me and 30:44 for her - and we spent ten minutes at the hotel trying to persuade the receptionist to give it a go next week!

We are up to our necks in handling the estate of MrsPete's auntie who died in January so not posting as much as usual, also starting to get my persistent cough back for the first time in a year so not doing much anyway but keep it up everyone, I expect great things from you all this year!

Love running, well before i start i hate it but i always end up loving it after a couple of miles, especially in the woods in spring and summer evenings. Ive not done a park run, but done a few 10k and half marathons. I run with my sister and best friend, we've sorted out some of lifes problems on our runs i can tell you :bugeyes: :bugeyes:

@CreakyPete Nice to see you pop in Pete, and I hope your cough gets better soon. From what I understand you can run with a cold in your head, but not in your chest.
I have a "relais de nuit" (night relay race) on Saturday night - we run in teams of 6 and do alternate 10km and 5km to make 45kms - start at 8.30pm and it goes on to after midnight. I'm doing the first 10kms. Then another 10km race the following Sunday and a half marathon mid April.
I've dropped my 2kgs so am hoping that will help knock a minute or so off my time, but not sure. I'm working on increasing my stride length which of course results in me going slower too..and will continue to do so until I've got used to lifting my legs higher and faster!
@twinklin Yes, we will feel quite spoilt running in the spring and summer sunshine after all the rain and mud this winter!

I can certainly relate, funny how the theories tend to dissapear at the end of the run though. :grin:

Hi all, Mrs and I back in action at our local parkrun on Saturday, she 29:17 and quite pleased, me 25:51 which is acceptable considering how I had been feeling for the last few weeks.

The hips seems to be improving, just got to get the lungs working now! Since the weather seems to be getting better at last a few long bike rides should sort this out, watch this space.

How about the rest of you?

@CreakyPete
Good that you are back into Park runs and are happy with your time! I'm pleased you are feeling better.
I had a night relay race on Saturday night, as one of 6 women in a team, doing alternate 10 and 5km races (total of 45kms). I did 47m40s for my 10km slot and was happy with that (it isn't the same racing at night) and out total time was 3 hours 38 minutes for the 45kms. There were 84 teams in total and a great atmosphere all evening, plus the weather conditions were great. I ran first at 8.30pm in just the club T shirt, not cold at all!
