I've had mine about 10 days now. Every single day except one I've exceeded 10,000 steps, and almost every single day I've exceeded my number of floors, very active minutes and number of miles walked, usually with very comfortable margins. But even with all that activity I am struggling to meet my calorie burn target. Is anyone else finding this?

Hi everyone,
I've only had mine for just over a week and it doesn't always sync on my iphone so I just delete the app and re-install it and it works again.
Mummybunny can't help with the calorie thing as I exceed mine every day. Its 1939 on fitbit but I do between 2200 and 2500 each day. I do a lot of dog walking which bumps up both my cals and my steps.
How far out are you on your calories. I know that if you go into the old dashboard you can edit your daily calorie burn, so don't know if that would help.

Unless I have a really inactive day with no runs or dog walks (which I generally do daily) I have no problem in using my calorie alowance (2000) easily. I didn't know you could edit the options or even how it is calculated!
Until I saw this thread I didn't know I had a calorie target. I know you can manually over ride it but at what point did it get set in the first place?
I tend to use FitBit for steps and MFP for food/calories

Mine is 2184. I usually get close, and at least exceed 2000, but I often don't cross the line, and I don't know why when my steps, very active minutes, miles and floors are all well over target. I get hour+ long walks at least 4-5 times a week, and I work out with a DVD 5-6 times a week. I'm not a couch potato!
I know I may be overthinking this - but isn't the point in doing the steps to burn calories? Accumulating badges for steps and floors is nice (my kids love that sort of thing!), but doesn't compensate for a low calorie burn. It doesn't make sense that targets in terms of activity are being met/exceeded but the end result of the meeting of those targets, the calorie burn, isn't. If the number set is completely arbitrary (it's higher than my TDEE on this site, for example) that's one thing, but I was just wondering if anyone knew how it was set.

Mine is 2143, and is pretty close to my TDEE on here and on other sites.
I have not been logging calories on MFP as religiously as I did when I started, but I can see that on the days I have logged calories (fast days) it does show the calorie deficit.
mummybunny, on the days that you do hit your calorie target, are you able to see what you did differently? And if you are doing something, like an exercise DVD where you are burning calories in a way the Fitbit doesn't fully account for are you logging that activity? I use a Cross Trainer which tells me the calories burned, so I log those.

Thanks SianS for your thoughts. I guess I have to do a more in-depth analysis because I am not able to see what I have done differently on the days I hit the target, except perhaps one day when I really blew through the target I had done a fair bit of hill walking. Lately I've been walking in the City, which is pretty flat. Hmmm...
I can't remember what my initial calorie allowance was but I've set mine to 2000 and unless I have a very inactive day, I manage to meet it or as near as damn it each day.
Are there activity levels that can be set on the fitbit dashboard? Maybe that has something to do with it also. I really can't remember and making sure your weight is up to date on there too

Well, to be honest I've never really paid that much attention to the calorie burn numbers. The fitbit doesn't really montitor that if I understand it corrrectly. What it gives you is a BMR type number of what you burn for living and breathing and then adds in based on a formula for steps and stairs climbed. There isn't a heart rate monitor on it so the calorie burn numbers are estimates and formulas based on height, weight, number of steps, stairs, etc. not based on heart rate like a garmin or bodybugg. I don't have stairs or hills available and my calorie numbers are always low unless I've gone somewhere out of the ordinary. I walk 6 or 7 miles a day around the flat lands in my neighborhood and almost all of my minutes are logged in fairly active instead of very active.
Hi there, I have PM Umelia and looking forward to joining your fitbit group shortly.
Thanks to this post I had no idea what a fitbit was at the begining of the week and went and brought a fitbit one today, its perfect for me as I love my walking or shall I say enjoy being walked by our 38kg German Shepherd she keeps me very fit and I have no idea the distance or steps we walk each day.
Tomorrow I have my best friend visiting from Perth so first thing we do when we catch up is walk and because its been awhile since we last caught up we will be walking for a very long time and we wont even know it, fitbit here I come.
See you all soon.

I also didn't know that fitbit exsisted until it was mentioned on here. I am a bit confused now as there are many others too. Like the Up. So which one should I buy everyone please help. Then I can join the gang too.
Bumping up as I have made the group open to all now
Carieoates, I have a fitbit one for about a month and I love it
I've reached all my targets today after a dismal day yesterday. It's the start of my fitbit week and I'm hoping I can keep it up for the week ahead. I think if I'm not mistaken I'm ranking second on our fitbit group dashboard!
How is everyone else doing today?
Just found this and thought you might enjoy it too I am definitely a fitbit fanatic!

Morning Umleila,
Starting my third week today, did a lot of puppy walking last week so lots of steps puts me at the top of the board.
Its very addictive isnt it cos you just want to keep on beating previous days steps.
I had a calorie deficit over the week of 6,832 and lost a pound this morning. Last week it was 6,285 and I lost 5lbs. Very strange how the body works.
