@scubachick I've looked at the Flylady site before and found it a bit prescriptive, but after reading how well you are doing, I thought I'd look again. I still don't think her way is for me, but Flylady has made me think about how I do stuff (or don't do stuff...). I tend to flit around trying to get everything done, and achieve less than if I'd go at it steadily over time. So thank you for making me look again!

I can make some pretty tops out of that material", so I took them out of the bag. I haven't done any sewing for a long, long time, will I really do it now?

@coffeetime I recognise that feeling! How about keeping your favourite skirt, and give the rest to charity. If you do turn the remaining skirt into a nice top, you would probably be able to buy more pretty skirts in the charity shop to convert.
As someone said to me, and it helped me let go of things, 'give someone else the chance to enjoy it'.

I've cleaned out the undersink cupboard, which was a bit of a disgrace really. It feels good to have done it at last!
@Annurca i was just about to mention " i have nothing left to chuck!"... Then yr remark made me remember..oh yes! I still have under the sink to do
Will save it for my next fast day! Good luck with yrs..! X
And PS..hi there @coffeetime! I think Annurca's suggestion is a good one! X
Thank you @Annurca, I agree with @CandiceMarie, that was a good suggestion. I've got to be more positive, there's so much stuff to sort out. I don't even wear skirts! Perhaps I should now that I no longer look like a stranded whale, some of the ones I've seen in the shops are really lovely. Jeans and shorts are comfortable and 'safe' to wear, I lack the confidence to get back into dresses and skirts, silly me, nobody is going to take notice of a granny wearing a skirt! :?:
I have been blitzing my wood pile. No logs for burning, but my scrap wood pile that has bits of wood that may come in useful for a shelf or bracket or 'something'. I'm chopping it into usable pieces and will be taking it all to a friend who is a single Mum and has an open fire in the winter. We are also going to see if we can make some kind of a burnable log out of the bin bags full of sawdust I make on a regular basis. We think that mixing it with dilute PVA and then packing it into brick shaped formers may do the trick. *note to self, make a brick shaped former for her*.

I have also thrown out 2 pairs of jeans that were stretch jeans, but when I was my biggest weight I must have over stretched the elastane in the jeans because now that my legs are a bit slimmer the jeans material looks 'lumpy', not an attractive look. I may salvage one of the zips to fix another pair of jeans where the zip no longer stays up, but I haven't sewed in a zip for a long, long time.
@coffeetime yu said that shorts are " safe" wear..i would NEVER have the confidence to go out in shorts..respect to ya!
@Julieathome another never..i have never ever sewn a zip in! Wdnt have a clue how to go about it! useless article.. :curse:
Hahaaa @CandiceMarie, I just wear them in the garden and when I take Maisie for walkies in the lanes nearby, but if I was going further afield and there was a choice between shorts and a skirt I would rather wear the shorts.
@coffeetime in that case I would get rid, and you won't have it on your mind as something you have to do, much better that way. If you really want to take up sewing again, start with something new.
Very good point @Silverdarlingx
@Scubachick i looked at FlyLady and tho,coz am a long term declutterer,i don't think i need her level of help, she very much appeals to my " use it or lose it" attitude round the house..enjoying reading her...x
Six bags of clothes ready to go to the charity bin. Finally put my cream wool coat in, it has been worn once as terrified of marking it. No chance now I live deep in rural France where there is mud in abundance! I can now walk into my walk in wardrobe, all is either hung up or folded on shelves. I have removed lots of quality things but feel much happier! Spare room here I come!
Well you've helped to make up my mind @Silverdarling, out they go - except one that was given to me a few years ago, lovely sheer fabric (with a lining), a deep blue and beige flower pattern on a pale blue background, like a beautiful painting. It looked hideous when I put it on, too big for me before 5:2 and the only reason I kept it was to eventually make something new with it.

I must, must start sewing again, what I like to do is to make something new out of old clothes, curtains etc. I think it's the challenge, I've never been interested in buying new fabrics and starting from scratch. I'm now looking forward to resuming an old hobby, I certainly didn't expect the Fast Day forum to lead me in this direction....
:-D :-D :-D
I love that@coffeetime! Enjoy xx
The bags and box in the car have now made it to the charity shop!
This is a step worth reporting on, as at least one of these bags had made it to the car on a previous occasion, and then come back into the house...
I pledge to remove a bagful of 'stuff' from the spare room!
Woohoo yippee hooray a further 3 bags of just my clothes all ready for op shop or a friend who is happy to check out my good stuff. Formula followed was do summer wardrobe first and if I didn't love it, have warn it last summer away it went. This is on top of all my outsized size 16 trews which all went at the beginning of summer. Already getting ruthless with papers and the bookshelves are getting some attention as well. The odd cupboard has also had the treatment. This is such a good thing I am wrapped
