Oh @Debs it'll be so good to have you back! Things have been a little quiet around here  have you weighed yourself? Just wondering if a week off the fast has helped you or not.

As for me, I'm pretty pleased today because I seem to be back on track. I weighed in at 11:9 this morning. Hopefully, if I don't go crazy on feast days, I should weigh 11:8 at the end of the week...stranger things have happened!

@Debs Yea the answer was pretty vague. I didn't see your post...

I personally struggle with all the "Plateau" talk. I know some people its a genuine struggle but for the majority that I hear bringing it up it just seems to be an excuse for a stalled weigh in - If it goes on for weeks on end then yea surely there is a problem but heaps lately are saying they are on a plateau cause the scale is the same after todays weigh in... To me that's border lining on entering an eating disorder.

Please don't get me wrong I am not putting you in that box Debs just venting hahaha

I think I am plateauing because my weight has been exactly the same for 3 days in a row!!

Very often the weight just doesn't come off as quickly as we'd like

@nursebean well done :like:

@TBrewerton I agree. I stayed the same for about a week and although it's frustrating, it's not what I would class as a plateau. I know from experience that sometimes my body just needs to adjust. Lo and behold, suddenly after that week, I got new numbers. Lower than I've had in a long time! It's just a case of hanging in there.

I'm doing 5:2 this week due to social commitments, and that is going to feel very strange. Not fasting today. Just as well, since my freezer had a wobble and we are eating up all sorts of odd stuff that defrosted in the process.

Ok so I have screwed this one up... I seriously was not thinking.

Have just booked a lunch out catch up with a good mate of mine and also booked the wife in for dinner all on a fast day... Going to cancel the day and do what Krista says and rebound by making the next feast day the fast day followed by the normal fast day.

Yesterday = Feast
Today will = Feast
Tomorrow will = Fast
The Next Day = Actual Fast
Then back to normal with feast...

Hi All,
I am back, not sure if it is with a vengeance though!!! So hungry today after making a total and utter piglet of myself over the last week, but my it was fun!!!
The plateau thing I think is real but I woudl class it as a couple of months of not shfiting rather than a week or a few days.
I didn't get a reply back to my query when Krista suggested ANOTHER fast day!! I want to know if she means 5 days in a row, that would tax anybody I would have thought!

So bean and winsome, you are both doing incredibly wellm I am really impressed! Make sit so much easier doesn't it when you can see a difference for all your efforts?!

I am fasting today and will ease back in as I find the first day a struggle with hunger pangs. The fact that I brought back a heap of food with me hasn't helped and there are five walnut whips sitting in my fridge!!!

I am not going to weigh myself for a couple of days as I know I won't like the answer, I'll work on fasting first!

Debs wrote: On my way back bean! Just getting my last lot of junk food goodies in before I get back to the culinary wasteland that is my camp!! Starting ADF again tomorrow and hoping that this time it will make a difference.

Btw @tbrewerton, I saw your post on Krista Varady's website but she didn't really answer your question did she? I asked about a consecutive three day fast not working and she said to add another!! Surely that can't be healthy?

I noticed that, too. Having read around about this quite a lot, I think the problem is that the term "starvation mode" is used too loosely. I think what @tbrewerton was referring to was "adaptive thermogenesis" (which Varady has mentioned before on the fb site)--the lowering of TDEE after weight loss beyond what is expected based on lower weight alone. It's a confusing field made more confusing by all the other names it goes by ("set point", "famine reaction", "starvation mode"), though in some cases, these other terms may be referring to something different. Also confusing is that it is discussed in both the context of plateaus during weight loss and weight regain after weight loss, during maintenance. Have you looked at these threads?

Thanks MaryAnn, I haven't but will do so. Yes, all the different names and fixes do cause a bit of confusion which is partly why I am not reading to much about it and just trying to do what feels right for me. It does make sense though that your TDEE wil drop as te weight comes off.

FatDog put a link in my thread written by a non-scientist which was really helpful:
http://www.burnthefatblog.com/archives/ ... isited.php
In addition to defining adaptive thermogenesis/starvation mode/etc., he address the issue that it may not always be the cause of a plateau--compliance is also important.

Also, just so it's clear: the drop in TDEE is often *larger* than expected based on weight loss alone. This is where adaptive thermogenesis comes in...

Welcome back Debs :clover: Good luck with your first fast.

I'm going to have to be strong minded this week; having done so well on the ADF it is freaking me out a bit that I can't ADF this week. I actually can't wait to be back on ADF again from Monday. That sounds a bit sad, doesn't it?

Welcome back @Debs hope today went well for you

@winsome? How come you can't do ADF this week?

I'm fasting again today and it's STILL raining! Think I'm gonna have to build an Ark or something! Tonight I have an M&S Lasagne to look forward to. Hey, I may throw caution to the wind and add some sprouts

Hi bean. Good luck to you today, and sending some of my dry weather your way!!!
Going ok, just trying to decide what to eat tonight if anything. I'll see how I feel when I finish work.

Yup MaryAnn - pretty much what I was getting at :-)

It got so bad there for a bit with so many people discussing it I got sick of it, I only really read this thread now...

This is working brilliantly for me so I am not to phased with what the other campers discuss haha.

@TBrewerton Rolls out the air bed, and starts pumping....

May as well make myself comfortable cause this is my new home.

Well as I said earlier, today I over booked lots of eating adventures and it was suppose to be a fast day. I knew this day would come and have made It quite clear to myself there would be consequences if this happened. Those being Krista's - fast the following 2 days...

So here goes tomorrow I shall be fasting (out of sync with most of you) and then again the following day - back in sync with @Debs then I should be back on track :-)

Have you done a back to back fast before Tim? Don't let this WOE become too tiresome. If you couldn't fast today then just forget about it and fast when you're meant to. I'm sure it won't make any difference to your weight

Yea I have before doing 5.2 (cant comment any further on that though as it was well over the conversation rules for this forum)

I find Fast days pretty easy now. Was just that today everything piled up on me.

For me personally if I don't counter it this time with a balance out fast day then I will just get sloppier and sloppier... "it was ok to miss a day then, so it will be ok now.."

Before long I will only be doing 4/20 (4 hours fast 20 eating) hahahaha

2 days is nothing, the most I would do with ADF would be 3 and that would only be if my weight stalled for a good couple of months and I had checked TDEE etc and everything lined up. Only then would I do three days as a "Plateau Breaker".

Actually quite looking forward to it. Oh and I forgot to mention... Last fast day I had a lemonade popsicle it was a big one and only 52 calories - but was so refreshing and actually curbed my hunger. I might try it again when I am fasting while at home again next!
