a year or so after becoming unwell,i'd lost touch with all my colleagues.
i just don't think people can cope very well longterm with someone who is ill and unlike their " old selves"
But for yr colleagues not to at least offer some words of comfort and consolation when you first left work is very upsetting...theyre obviously not the most compassionate of people thats for sure
We have to treasure those who stick by us..in my case, apart from family, that boils down to probably just three female friends and my gentleman friend/ boyfriend/ whatever we should call boyfriends when theyre in their sixties.. And just have to try to rise above it when some people are quite callous...otherwise we just get bitter and that doesnt help our health improve x

It is sad people distant themselves because we are not well, im the same as you probely three female friends and my partner and of cousre my daughter who is 15.xx

I've only got my parents as friends (oh and my lovely Iggies, Poppy and Minnie!)My darling sister emigrated to Montreal last year with her hubby and two little boys. Of course I miss her loads and it's obviously worse because I can't go out and visit. Still, we have good old FaceTime which is amazing! Today I received a bunch of flowers from my sister which cheered me no end :-)

Ahh lovely you got your flowers! I moved from Newcastle last year to be close to my boyfriend in Richmond North Yorkshire so i do miss my family but to be honest i probely see just as much now of them as i did before apart from my mum.
I like it here its slower and quieter which suits me perfectly.I moved a year ago and just starting to get over that!!xx

Oh lately I've wondered about moving up north. It does look beautiful in some parts...and a slower pace?

I'm not surprised you're only just recovering. Moving is hard work for normal peeps so it's pretty bad for us isn't it. Took me about 6 months to move my stuff into my folks' home! Oomph it's hard work isn't it! Glad you're settled now though :)

Did you fast today? If so, how did you get on?

Oh hi @Candicemarie and thanks for your lovely message! Yes, I couldn't resist that little tortoise. I guess it shows where I am at the moment. I've been really quite bad, probably worse or as bad as I've ever been (or bean!).

You know how your brain "buzzes" with crazy thoughts sometimes, just when you're trying to "rest"? Well I kept thinking that I should write to my so called best friend and tell her how let down I feel. Anyway, to cut a long story short, I wrote her and yesterday she phoned me in tears. I realised she IS my friend and we still love each other...so that is a real load off :)

As for the course, I had to leave slightly early last week because it was a bit demanding. We we're put into groups and had to work on scenarios etc. I found this too draining, it's just crazy isn't it. We were looking at CBT and ways of changing our negative thoughts. I'd rather get back to "pacing" and more practical solutions. For example, they suggest that if you start, say, walking, you do 10 mins a day until you can do it easily and then increase this by 10%. In reality this is excruciating and not ideal. I have two dogs to walk. They won't want to go for 10 mins! Plus sometimes I have to drive to find a good walk! So, I feel I shall force myself to walk "the girls" and leave pacing for everything else. It's all so difficult isn't it!

My main worry at the moment is this fasting. Because I've been low, I have been comfort eating and this week I'm not fasting (even though I should be). I need lots of encouragement...and inspiration because I can feel myself getting bigger and bigger...and then I'll feel worse. It's such a vicious circle isn't it.

Oh blimey, sorry. I went on a bit there. I hope you guys are all ok. I've got 3 weeks of my course left so I'll let you know if I pick up any great tips!

Hi @nursebean, I just wondered whether you might consider a different form of fasting if you are struggling to do 2 days of 5:2 fasting. Have you tried 16:8, for example? Even if you don't lose weight on it, you would probably prevent weight gain and it is not so stressful on the body. I means you can have some comfort eating but the eating window prevents it from getting out of control. Although it means having some willpower every day, it is for a shorter time! It may help you feel more in control. Even 14:10 might work for you! I think it's important to make fasting work for you rather than struggling to stick to something and then feeling bad when it proves too difficult!

All the best

Thanks Caroline. I am wondering if it's the big gap between fasts that's the the culprit, ie from Thurs to mon I probably overeat. Reading the articles on here recently, the Dr Varaday book, I wonder if every other day would be better. I might give it whirl from Saturday, depending on how I feel.

Hi everyone, nope I didn't fall off the face of the earth :) just sort of feel like it. I've had a headache more days than I haven't this past month. also went to the doctor this a.m. having a lot of pain in my back and ribs ( the two falls I've taken in the past month probably didn't help that. :) ) I'm to start physical therapy and steroids this week, eek!! I thank maybe my weight loss is about to come to a halt for a bit. ah, well, at least I saw a number below 140 lbs for a bit. LOL.

Hi bean, I'm so sorry that you have become so isolated because of this D.D. glad you were able to reach out to your friend and that she understood how you were feeling. My daughter is in your shoes. basically it's just the three of us that really understand what this illness does.

please don't beat up on yourself for a bit of comfort eating. you are going through a lot of stress what with the holidays, your treatment course and all. you will get it back under control soon, I'm sure. just play around with fasting days and see how it goes.

Lee22, good to meet you! yup, a year to recover from a move sounds about right. :) sounds like you have a good plan for your fasting and are going to do well.

CandaceMarie, I do have a hard time doing the 80% thing. if I'm having a little better day I try to do everything I couldn't do the day before. thanks for the reminder.

sending you all a big hug and encouragement for a great week. Phyllis

I was wondering where you were, Phyllis. Sorry to hear you've been having horrible headaches (it never ends does it :( ). I'm now thinking of trying every other day fasting, starting tomorrow...watch this space!!

In the meantime, take care of yourself...big marshmallow hugs coming your way!

:clover: :clover:  = BOL aka best of luck

Fasting for as long as you can like Caroline said will give you those fasting windows and then starting with a protein meal ~ I tried a piece of poached salmon (pinged in microwave) heavy sprinkle of dill and dollop of good quality mayo with leafy salad makes a wonderful fast breaker and then you can have a smaller meal with your parents which includes a carb.

I get through the day at about 2pm with a bullet coffee (only I have teaspoon unsalted butter - it really is only cream -and teaspoon of good coconut butter oil, if unpalatable add stevia drops to sweeten and dash of almond oil. It is a slow but steady way to keep on keeping at IF

Good to see you back here@Mountain Myst xx

@nursebean
Lovely news re your friend and the flowers!
Re yr course,if its too stressful and tiring, can you put it on the back burner for now?
You need to have recovered to some extent to get anything out of these courses..if youre just not well enough, its counterproductive xx
@lee22 hope youre doing ok xx
As for me,cant read much at the moment, brain fog has come down and enshrouded me!
Big hugs all round, take care all X
