Happy New year fellow fasters!
I haven't posted on here for ages...my last one was rather sad and bemoaning the fact that I thought fasting had caused a relapse in my CFS. Anyway I did stop doing the 5:2 but after a while I tried the 8:16 method ( eating in an 8 hour window). For me I found this much more managable somehow and didn't get the energy crashes I experienced with 5:2. In fact my energy has improved tremendously with this way of eating, its so easy and fits really well into every day life. I'm very happy with how its curbed my desire to constantly graze. I have my last meal of the day at 7 or 8pm ish then eat my first meal at 12pm the next day. So I simply just miss breakfast...I know it goes against the grain of everything we have been told (breakfast is the most important meal of the day blah blah!!) but for me my energy/mental alertness just improves during the morning, where as if I have breakfast first thing I am then hungry all morning and more likely to graze.. I don't get the low blood sugar feelings I used to experience either. And most importanly ( of course!) I have steadily lost weight. I do some yoga and walking to help weight loss but nothing very strenuous. I really think it has helped the CFS too. So perseverance pays off I reckon..from someone who was very disillusioned with fasting to a total convert!!

Oh @Crackers how lovely to hear from you and I'm so glad you've found a method that is helping you. I know EXACTLY what you mean about breakfasts. I was just the same; always thought it was the most important meal of the day and could never think of giving them up. Now I never have them...and feel much better for it. Like you, I don't have the hunger pangs. Also like you I can only really do yoga and walking for exercise. You are a real kindred spirit and I'm glad it's working for you!
ps I'm just enjoying a Horlicks, readying myself for tomorrow's fast

Hi, @candiceMarie, @crackers,@nursebean, so good to see everyone.
Candy, glad to hear you are recovering from your hols, and that the LDN might be helping.
Beany, I hope you are feeling great today.
crackers, so good to hear you found a plan that works for you, glad you let us know how things are going. Hope to see you again soon.
Are any of you ladies on Facebook? I just read an article about a new research center in Alabama which isn't too far from me( well probably a 100 miles or so) the researcher there is finding some interesting things, and I would share it but I don't know how. ( old dinosaur me) He uses LDN with some good results and I though of you, Candy. I knew his name when I started typing this, but it's gone now. Will have to look it up and get back to you. Gee I miss my brain!!! :-) anyway it looks promising.
My grain free experiment is going well. My weight is down, I'm now 1.6 lbs from goal, and my stiffness in my hands and wrists, is better. I'm really hopeful that trend will continue. Well, enough rambling. Sending wishes for a great day. Fast day for us today, gotta go refil my water glass. Hugs

@MountainMyst exciting news about the place in Alabama! Wdnt it be good if you could take part in some research there and get some good results from it! I' m not on FB so can't take a look but will tell DD to do so.well done on sticking with the grainfree, fab that you're getting good results with it x

Thankyou everyone for your warm welcome and wishes...oh yes I had forgotten that I actually started this thread!
@MountainMyst I am interested to hear about your grain free experiment. I too am experimenting with grainfree ( but only as of a few weeks so far ) I get a lot of hip pain that the doc said was most likely Osteo Arthritis , so I thought I would give grains a miss and see what happens. I am pretty much sugar and dairy free too, though I am partial to cheese now and again!
A few other things I find helpful is Coconut oil, seems to give me a bit of energy. I melt it and have in a smoothie or a hot chocolate (sugar free of course!!)
And I take Juice Plus, which is a blend of nutrients derived from vegetables, fruits and berries designed to support the Immune system. I've noticed increased energy since being on it and a desire to eat more healthily... :geek:
Good luck everybody :clover: and love to you all..

Just been reading up on JuicePlus @crackers and will keep it for future reference
Glad it has helped you x
At the moment i' m trying a medicine called Low Dose Naltrexone ( LDN) so i don't want to add anything else for now, just see how this goes...
Six weeks in, gonna try it for six months. So far there's a very small improvement in my thyroid function. Every little bit helps! X

Hi, me again, I finally remembered the doctors name. If you google dr. jarred Younger, UAB. you can find his web page and not have to do Facebook. He is listed under psychology dept, but is doing research to show that it isn't psychological help we need. There are several interesting things listed under research. @CandiceMarie, there is a report on LDN, might come in handy.
@crackers, I've only been doing grainfree for a couple of weeks. Still can't give up my sugar like you, I figure one thing at a time. And I need sugar in my morning cuppa. :-) I tried JuicePlus many years ago, but didn't see much effect from it. It was early days and might be different now. Glad it's helping you!i expect anything to boost our nutrition can only be a good thing.
Well, gotta run. Take care my fast friends, wishing you a great week.

Hi@CandiceMarie,@nursenean,and@crackers,I hope this day finds you all doing well. I'm so sorry I just disappeared for so long. I had an infected tooth that needs to come out, unfortunately that costs money I don't have. So I treated the infection with herbs and large doses of garlic( the non smelly kind, my family is thankful:-)) and it finally resolved. Now to find a dentist that will let me make payments.

Saw the rheumatologist this week. The back pain she feels is a nerve being compressed, not much to do for it. Learn to live with it, now where have we heard that before??? :-)my hands are quite a bit better, seems the grain free diet helps the small joints first, makes sense I guess.

Thanks to the grain free changes, I have just exceeded my goal!! I now weigh 129.6 lbs!! It's been decades since I saw numbers in the 120's. Plies, no cravings, and maybe a little energy boost. I think I like this. Of course we are still fasting also, it makes for a great combination, especially if you are fasting and not loosing.
Candy, I'm so excited that you LDN dosage has increased, any changes in how you are feeling yet? If you are like me, I have to keep reminding myself that I've been ill for a long time and recovery most likely will be slow. Hope you are feeling much better, and your D.D. Is doing well too.
Beany, how are you? Still working hard? Sure hope all is going well.
Crackers, how are you doing? I am finding the grainfree fairly easy so far. Can't manage sugar free though, need sugar in my tea and coffee, but usually only drink one or two cups a day? Have you seen improvement from you Juice Plus?
Sending you all my very best wishes and promise to check in more often.

Looks like autocorrect did a bit of editing on that post. Hope you can make sense of it. @nursebean, looks like my fingers missed and I spelled your name wrong, sorry about that. Hugs, Phyllis

Hi @MountainMystso glad to hear from you ..bean and i were wondering how you are x
Well done on the weight loss! go girl! That must feel very satisfying! :like:
And on giving up the grains! :victory:
I should do it too as i have very bad arthritis in my right thumb and wrist...makes everything difficult and painful, from fastening buttons to hoovering - which really hurts! Wdnt be as bad if was in left hand. I am addicted to bread i think, tho can quite happily keep potatoes, pasta and rice quota down to next to nothing.
Poor Bean has reactivated an old back injury..she went on holiday today - fingers crossed her back will be ok and she can enjoy herself.
Glad you resolved yr tooth infection Phyll..clever girl!
Hope you find a dentist who will help you now...seems so wrong that you have to struggle that way.
So lucky to have NHS in the uk,tho i have to pay for dental treatment ..not everyone gets it free.

The new meds...nearly ten weeks in...each time i go up by a small dosage, i feel unwell for several days..the " poisoned feeling" i had when first fell ill. Then it wears off so i try to enjoy a few normal ( or at least my version of normal!) days before i put the dose up slightly again...Gives me very very busy and odd dreams which is a common side effect apparently
Has helped my thyroid levels a bit
Hoping to see a lot more improvement in the weeks to come!
Take care Phyll..big hugs xxx
