Re: Auriga's progress.
24 Feb 2014, 16:43
I have decided to go wheat free and so will post how I am doing on here from time to time. I have read a lot lately about refined carbs in general and the possible bad things that wheat products particularly can ravage on our bodies, but the two books, 'Grain Brain' and 'Wheat Belly' rather shocked me. There are many personal reasons why I have decided to go down this route....not particularly weight loss reasons, but I am sure going wheat free will help rather than hinder the weight loss anyway.
I don't think this is going to be terribly easy long term but I shall try. Hubby just can't live without bread so I made some walnut/carrot bread today but it's very like cake! (No sugar, no flour....made with ground almonds, walnuts, oil, cinnamon, eggs etc) It's definitely not something you can eat on a fast day either.
I hope I can do this. I might need nerves of steel. I shall have to cheer myself on with a bit of help from everyone here. Am I mad? Maybe.....

I think the good news is that there are SO many wheat free products available now, that it's not as hard as it used to be.

When I was little I was allergic to gluten for a short while and what a nightmare that was. They didn't make anything. I had to have plain rice cakes all the time! But, now there is all sorts of stuff. I'm sure it will help with weight loss too. Good luck!

You will feel great Auriga. Three days of cold turkey and you will be fine. Good luck. :clover: :clover: :clover: I need to get back to it. I just can't get into a routine yet. BTW my scales are not here. I'm beyond annoyed. :curse:

Just re-read about Mimi in 'The Fast Diet' book. She's 5'7" tall and now weighs 54k i.e. eight and a half stone. My goal weight is 55k and I am only 5'4" tall and fine boned,so I think I might need to get to at least Mimi's weight.
I am reluctant to change my ultimate goal though as I thought it was darn near impossible to get close to that and I am nearly there. :victory:
What to do....what to do? There are still some seriously lumpy bits hanging on for dear life in the stomach region. It's got go!

How old is Mimi, Auriga? And remember, you are you, so no comparing yourself to someone else and being unhappy.
Yes, we might have lumpy bits, but the struggle to get rid of them may be a step too far - only you can answer that xx

That's a very valid question@PennyForthem. I think Mimi is a good twenty years my junior, if not more...... .
I am not at all unhappy though Penny...just rather fed up with the lumpy bits! My stomach is like tapioca now....never liked the stuff  .It's very odd really just how lumpy it looks. Does anyone else have tapioca tummy????
Thank you so much for your reply.....it keeps things in perspective.

I know how you feel, my target weight was 8 and a half stone, was thrilled skinny when I got there. Gradually I lost another 5-7 lbs and this time I really was thrilled skinny. I am 5" 4.5" and although I am almost as light as I was in my twenties it has all morphed into some sort of jiggly lump. My waist is at least 3-4 " bigger than it was last time I was this weight and nothing I do seems to make any difference, so I guess middle age spread really exists. My tum is like something out of that ghastly sci-fi programme from my childhood, Quatermass.....the only difference is that it's not green, how I know the gloop was green is a mystery as there was only black and white in those days.

Anyway, what I am trying to say is that Pennyforthem is right, should just have said that and not rambled. As my face does not look 21 any more then it seems daft to expect my body to look as though the years have passed me by, still don't like it though.

Thank you @Ballerina your comments really help too. AND....I remember 'Quatermass and the Pit'....really scary stuff back then.... I wasn't supposed to watch it, but I used to hide behind the sofa and watch it from there! I think I was about six or seven and quite naughty! No change there then.

Tapioca, yes. I can exercise hard and get hard abs but there is this wobbly lardy stuff sitting on top, some of which may be some excess skin as it kind of puckers up when I am on my hands and knees to do push-ups. Even if I lose more weight it may still be there - not to mention similar stuff on the thighs.

I'm confused about my goal weight now. I'm 5 ft 6 and have been aiming for 9 st 7 ( for years). I wonder if I'll ever get there...and if I do will I then reduce it to 8 st 7? At what stage should I get rid of the two giant pendulums that are my boozums?

I guess we'll know what goal we should set...when we get there!

Only saw your post today @nursebean and wanted to tell you that when I got below 60k I had to revise my goal and have reset it twice now. I was genuinely amazed that I got anywhere near my original goal let alone close to 54k which is my goal now. So Beanie you just might get your wish you know!!!!! Just keep at it. As for your boozums they are an asset....some people kill for large ones!!

Hi @Auriga just saw your reply. Thanks for your encouraging words. Looking at your signature you've done amazingly well haven't you. And wow! Going from a size 14 to and 8-10? That's so impressive!

You see, the thing I worry about is that I haven't bean my goal weight since I was in my twenties (many moons ago). Is it possible to see such a weight again? I mean, are you now lighter than you've ever bean?!

If I was wearing a hat I would take it off in your honour xx

Yes @nursebean I am the lightest I have ever, ever been! And Beanie I am now 63 years old, so if I can do it so can you!!!! I feel so much younger! I know, reading something Caroline wrote yesterday, that I have to keep this up for life now.
