I think the Pilates is more strenuous than Yoga. It's more about weight bearing and repitition, I'm certainly activating muscles I didn't know I had.

Thanks TML! I'm getting quite excited about the Holiday now. I am a bit worried about all that travelling tho'. 4 days there and back is a big ask. The longest I've ever done in one go is a whole day! This is a new bike and the passenger seat is like an armchair so I should be OK.

Weighed in this morning and 1lb off.
I hate to say it as it makes me sound really ungrateful but I'm a bit disappointed. I was hoping for 2 as it would have made me 16 stone something instead of 17 stone......
To be honest I was half expecting it as the scales always manage to let you down at some point and I did get a 4lb loss last week completely out of the blue. I'm still averaging 2.75lbs a week so hopefully next week! Anyway Onwards and Upwards! Fast day today!

Well, I've done my fair share of travels on a bike and all I have to say is...
You'll be fine, it's your @rse that will probably do all the suffering!
Apparently, for those with any form of arthritis, pilates and swimming are their best choice for exercise as long as their consultant speaks to their instructor and tells them exactly what to do and what to avoid.
Ah, don't let it get you down! If I had a penny for everytime I kicked my scales...

Quickly got over the annoying reading on the scale yesterday and have decided to get a bit more exercise.
So we bought a second hand exercise bike from ebay at the weekend....... I tried the H.I.T that Caroline does last night and it went quite well. The first 20 second burst was OK but my thighs were burning. The second 20 second burst was hell!!! and the last one was murder but as it was the last I just stuck my head down and went for it. I was gasping for air for what seemed like an age. But it really felt as if it did me some good I can see how it improves fitness even tho' 3 minutes a week seems ridiculous!!
I grabbed one of my Pups this morning and took him for a 3.5 mile walk around the broad. When I plotted it on GMAPS it told me I'd burned 621 calories! I'm going to try to do that every day this week, along with my regular shorter walk, and see if it has an effect at next (monday) weigh in.
I was reading on another thread and thought I would give a go to weighing and plotting my weight every day using an App. (Fatwatch).
I've always weighed myself once a week but thought I'd give this a go and see how it affects me. The graphs that other people have posted look quite interesting and it would be good to link what's going on in my life with the scales so gains don't wind me up!

Feels like I've been away for ages!
I've had a really crappy 10 days or so. Just felt like I had a cold coming on and VERY tired, then all the glands came up on my neck. Then spent an entire night throwing up. I still don't quite feel 100% but I'm pulling myself up by my bootstraps and getting on with it. I haven't weighed because I know I've gained because I've been really hungry for carbs and indulging.
Anyway back with the plan this week, weigh in next Monday and hope I can undo some of the damage. How's everyone?

Made myself go to Pilates last night. I kept hunting for excuses not to as my knee is playing up a bit. Very glad I went as I'm quite achey this morning so it's done some good.
I'm trying to introduce a lot more fruit and veg into my diet. So I've decided to break out my Vitamix and have a smoothey every morning:-
Banana, apple, pomegranate, passion fruit, kiwi, fresh figs, blackberry, raspberry, strawberry, redcurrant, blackcurrant, milled flaxseed and spinach - yes spinach! was today's concoction. It feels so good to have all that goodness inside like drinking a big healthy vitamin soup.
Hopefully it'll help me kick this horrible lethargic feeling that's been hanging around me for the last couple of weeks.

I've just sat here and read your whole journal. You are doing so well with this WOE and having great results! Sounds like you are improving by leaps and bounds at Pilates as well.
I'm 53 years old and started doing a boot camp class in December. It's the hardest thing I've ever done, but as you said, it's use it or lose it! I'm down a bit over 25 lbs since 5 Jan, but just started 5:2/4:3 a couple weeks ago. I lost 3 lbs my first week, so it's very encouraging. I have a long weekend away coming up this weekend so not expecting much of a loss this week, but we'll see.
I enjoy reading your journal. You write so well and are very entertaining! Keep up the great work!

Good morning, everybody.
I've been feeling a bit despondent this week: weight loss has plateaued, so I thought I'd take a week off (other commitments made it slightly difficult to fit in two fast days this week), and hope my metabolism has given itself a good talking to next week!
On the cheerful side, I've lost nearly a stone, and about 9 inches overall on five measurements (although my waist is extremely stubborn - one inch lost if that). I have no difficulty sticking to 500 calories (carefully counted) on fast days, but I think I'm eating more than my TDEE on the other days. Bread is a particular failing. So I'm going to address that, and try to step up my exercise, weather permitting. Anyone tried using M&S Fuller Longer ready meals? I'm thinking of trying those two or three days a week.
Anyone else hit a plateau? Any advice is welcome! Good luck to everyone.

Hi Lori,
Thank you so much for the lovely compliment - I'm blushing!
Pilates is very hard work. I think it will be a while before I notice much difference in my performance but as long as I get aching muscles for the next few days I'm happy because it means good things are happening.
I think you are very brave to do a Boot Camp. I don't know how I'd cope with being shouted at, probably burst into tears LOL.
I want to keep challenging myself. It probably seems insignificant but my sewing machine bag is getting heavier. It isn't. I'm getting weaker because I hardly do any strenuous exercise. I need to regain the strength I had a few years ago not just let myself slide into old age. Use it or Lose it!
Your 25lb loss is brilliant you must really notice a difference and you've made such a good start with this WOE.
Enjoy your long weekend and the flexibility that this plan offers, back to the grind Monday - refreshed.
Sarah, I think variety is key to making any diet work long term, mixing it up is good and gives your metabolism something to think about.
I've just had a bad couple of weeks but I'm hoping that getting back on plan this week will give me some good results on Monday. We'll see!
I think you are right that sticking to your TDEE is key even if you have a bit more one day than another so that your weekly total is right. it mixes things up again and stops your body getting into a rut.
Like you I need to increase my exercise and I'm intending to get my pups out for some longer walks now that they are a bit older and able to stand a bit more distance. If my knee allows.
I have used 'healthy' meals in the past and bulked them out with some steamed veggies. I think you have to watch out for what they replace the fat with but as a quick grab when you're hungry they're brilliant.

Hi,
Luckily, our boot camp trainer doesn't yell! He is very encouraging and pushes you without being nasty. The worst thing he does is blow a whistle all the time! I'm with you in that I'd be crying if I had a trainer who yelled at me!

I've had a good week so far.
Spent yesterday sorting out my clothes. Got rid of the really enormous stuff and the things that have been lurking for years that for some strange reason I held on to. I took two black sacks of clothes to the local hospice charity shop. It felt sooo goood to rid myself of them, almost like shedding some extra weight.
Pilates was good last night, I seem to be getting the hang of some of the exercises and could concentrate on working the correct muscles. I'm certainly feeling it this morning. Signed up for another block of eight.
Having my hair done this morning. It'll be good to get rid of these roots!!!!

As I don't know your name, I'll just call you Cat!
Cat,
You are doing so well with this WOE....its exciting to follow your progress! Good for you for signing up for another round of Pilates!
Getting rid of old clothing is a great idea. I have a couple closets that could use a good purge. It's on my to do list.
Getting your hair done will give you a great boost for the weekend. Enjoy yourself & I'll be waiting for the next installment of your journal!

Weigh in today and I've lost 3lbs since my last weigh day. Which I'm thrilled with.
I actually weighed myself a couple of days in and showed a 3lb gain so heaven only knows what the total gain was from my blip. I reckon I've actually lost about 8lbs this week!! The majority of that will be water balance readjusting itself but it is so good to be back on track.
And now I weigh 16stone something YIPPPeeeeeee!!!!!!! Next target 15stone..............

Well done Catscratch!
WOW...great work Cat! I'm just back from a long weekend of eating everything that wasn't nailed down so I am more than ready for a fast day! I'm hoping that having a good 4:3 week will get me back to where I was before the weekend. I had a good time, but now it's time to pay the piper!
Have a good week!
Have a good week!
