Today's parkrun did not go so well- 25:37 on the short but hilly 5k. Tried too hard on the first hill and never really recovered, which will teach me a lesson (yet again)! Hip still OK, just need new lungs now...

This sub-25 minute 5k is becoming quite elusive - back on the course where I did 25:10 a fortnight ago, only 25:31 today. Mainly due to suddenly becoming useless with half a mile to go... Anybody have better luck today?
Hip is still working well, though, so I might be able to justify proper training runs in the next couple of weeks...

CP: Perhaps a better mantra while out on the course?
"Gentleman, we can rebuild him. We have the technology" ...
Instead of:
"Just sit right back ... a three hour tour. A three hour tour."

SO near but yet so far Pete! I'm sure you'll get there. The weather will improve and so will your hips! Most people would love to get close to your time even with their original hips.
I signed up to a HM next week, whilst I still have the training from the marathon in my legs. Looking forward to seeing how I feel at 21kms when I know I don't have to do it all again like I did 2 weeks ago.

CreakyPete gets 10 seconds of fame at Ipswich parkrun... Assuming you can get the video to play!

Oh yes, the big guy in the black jacket on the sidelines at around 30 seconds.... !
Wait...wait...
(Check out ~1:54 for an acclaimed 10 seconds...)
luv it...

When are park runs coming to America?? Not sure who I'm asking this of, sadly.
Hi @wendyjane, there is already a parkrun.us website showing four current US parkruns. Unfortunately they are all more than a thousand miles from Colorado.
The beauty of parkrun, though, is that anyone can get involved to start a new one in their locality. Good Luck!

@CreakyPete, it astounded me that Durham, NC is one of the sites. It is one of the unhealthiest places in the country. Possibly due in part to its history as a Big Tobacco town. My daughter was a runner there for 4 years while in school, and got quite a few "what the hell are you doing, girl?" sort of stares while out running. However, they do have major universities and tech companies. Probably she wasn't the only runner there...
I'm so excited! I ran for the first time in ages yesterday! I finally saw a doctor about the plantar fasciitis since it just wasn't healing. It turns out I have a bone spur on my heel. They made me custom-made insoles and want me to try running on them. So I gave it a whirl last night. So far, so good!
So pleased that you are running again @MaryAnn, I know how much you missed it. I hope the new insoles do the trick for you.
I actually managed a PB today on my HM, quite unusual as I'm Ms Regular, but the conditions were good and the course is very 'roulant' whatever that is in English, no big hills, but a lot of false flats. 1H42 so over a minute off my previous HM time. I still had the marathon training in my legs. My Garmin packed up after 3kms and I didn't miss it too much, managed to do the first half with the 1H40mins leader but as usual I flagged in the second half. Wish I could finish stronger, but too scared not to get the kms in the bag in the first half. I know it isn't the right policy to adopt. Got 3rd place podium in my category
How did the park runs go this weekend?

Well done Susan - so soon after a marathon. Of course, that time would indicate a 3h35m marathon should be within your grasp, maybe in a month or so? It's a vicious circle, I'm afraid!
As regards park run, MrsPete and I both had miserable slow runs yesterday with wind, rain and a minute worse than the previous week. Never mind 25 mins, 26 is the new challenge for me...
And my natural hip is complaining about my return to sporting activity...

Ah Pete, your conditions were horrible, it makes a lot of difference. Ours were great today.
Oh dear - do you think you will need a replacement soon for your natural hip?
I don't think I'll be doing another marathon soon, I really do have to sort out my GI issues.
I think I should have done 3H36 in my marathon, but as it was actually 43kms instead of 42.2 plus the pitstop it didn't help my finish time. 700m odd metres can represent a few minutes....

Congrats on your PB, @Franglaise!
My foot hurt a bit this weekend, but I'm not ready to blame the running since it hurt most of the time even when I wasn't running. I'm going to try again today and see how it goes. In spite of all the other exercise I've been doing, I was so sore even though I only ran ~4k at a pretty slow speed. I guess running uses different muscles than the elliptical, cycling, and swimming...

Missed parkrun last weekend due to a better offer - climbing on Stanage edge gritstone in the warm sunshine - so made up for it today by going out for my longest run since a long time ago, well before my operation. 6.6 miles, mainly on the canal towpath, in 61 minutes. It seemed terribly slow, although I did speed up in the last couple of miles, but it was a beautiful morning and great to be out training again. No problem with the metal hip, niggles from the natural one as usual but tolerable. Still stiff from climbing on Saturday, also cycled a lot last week - three rides totaling 65 miles - so probably should not have expected to fly today!
