Thanks, @carieoates and @sylvestra! It's funny that I just assumed it wasn't a US program, because I'd only heard about it on the forum. Course I could have just googled it, but that would have been too easy

Ok, so I have the app (which was $2, not free, BTW). Now I'm confused because it seems like the point is to run with the phone so you can measure your time/distance. That seems dangerous for my new, used (inherited from son) iphone, for one thing. I don't have a treadmill and look forward to running outside, during our 300 days/year of sunshine...

Also, Caroline, I don't use MFP, so does the app on the iphone sync with my fitbit app?

I'm annoyed with myself, because my husband is a computer and tech whiz, and so my usual strategy when I don't know how to make something work is to ask him. Which is lame, and doesn't make me feel like the strong, independent person I should be  And in this case, I can't ask him, because I don't want to share the whole running plan just yet...

you can buy various contraptions for carrying a phone safely. I got an arm band for $20 for when I want to access a map.

Glad you going it ok Wendy Jane. It's just a training programme which used your music library. So I have a running playlist. Full of up beat stuff. Like Maryann says get yourself an armband, plug in and off you go. If I can do it anyone can. Of course your fitbit will pick up your steps and cals. Don't need my fitness pal as well.
Good luck. And happy running.

Hi folks,
Can I join in? I completed the c25k programme a couple of years ago, lost loads of weight and even signed up for a 10k fun run. I looked so good that I went and got myself pregnant with baby no.3. I actually completed the 10k without knowing I was pregnant. I continued running while pregnant for a while, but my pelvis weakened so I gave up.

Baby is now 18mths old and I am at the heaviest I have ever been. So, I have started this woe and restarted the c25k again. I am usuing the podcasts by Robert Ullery on http://www.coolrunning.com I have tried the apps that just beep over my own music but found that the music is not the right pace or pace changes. I like to run to the beat! Robert's music is not bad and he gives lots of encouragement, which I need to keep going.

Oh @scubachick you have given me hope. I used Robert Ullery's C25K podcasts/ program years ago to get back running but unfortunately quit in 2009 after an injury. My best friend is also an "Ullery" fan but accidentally lost the program when switching to a new iPhone and is desperate to recover it. Where is his program on the Cool Runnings website?
It does not seem to be available on iTunes any more.
There is a positive side to using your own music for a C5K program but I really loved his electronic music for each week. His encouraging comments on the "tape" are great and I really miss him. Hope you can help with this.
I am having success on 5:2 for the first time in years on ANY diet plan and am now ready to add a good exercise/running plan. Hope you can help me. :like:

Hi @judithn,
I had the Robert Ullrey podcasts on an old phone, but I managed to find them on a different site:http://www.c25k.com/podcasts.htm
I dont know what he looks like, but he sounds hunky

The NHS podcasts are not too bad either : http://www.nhs.uk/livewell/c25k/pages/running-podcast.aspx

We have a c25k team completing the Jantastic challenge this year. I signed up to run 3x a week for Jan, 3x a week for Feb with a ong run of 5k each week and then a long run of 6k for the final week. Not sure what my March challenge will be. Ran 6k this morning for the first time to see if I could do it; the beautiful sunshine was a bonus.

@Loulou51, fair play to you. You make me exhausted just reading it! I feel a long way from running 5k. Just finished week 2, run 2 today, so I can now run for a whole 90 seconds without stopping. still, its 90 seconds more than 2 weeks ago

@scubachick that was me last year. I graduated from C25K and went straight into the 5x50 challenge because otherwise I knew I would lose motivation. I found it really hard to keep running regularly over the summer which is why I signed up for the Jantastic challenge this year. Need something to push me out the door! I still can't do 5k in 30 mins though and that is what I am working on this year. Also hoping to be brave enough to do a parkrun; I registered last year and still haven't done one. Good luck with the programme I think it works really well especially if you use the Health Unlimited website and/or the FB group for support.

Hi

I've done C25K several times, to get me up to scratch to run Race for Life. I didn't enter last year, so did very little running. Sun was so lovely this morning, I went out for my first run for months

I did wk4, which was fine, I'm glad my walking regime has kept me fit enough to skip the first 3 weeks. Really really enjoyed it, particularly being out in just my sleeveless hoodie and cropped leggings, while everyone else in the park was wrapped up for winter

So am aiming for 3 times a week, getting back up to being able to do 5km, and will look into entering RFL this year, and if not, doing a few parkruns

So glad I went out this morning.

I would like to do this but I do not have an I phone. Can you use an mp3 player to do it or a tablet?

I think you can get it elsewhere as well . Don't think it's just an apple app.

Hi Brand-ie.

I use the NHS c25k. This can be downloaded to mp3 and is free.

I love the 'running' music and find it very motivational.
